Field survey of mangrove regeneration, porewater variables, and light in mangrove forests in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA, July 2020 - August 2022
This dataset package encompasses measurements from field surveys of mangrove regeneration, porewater variables, and light conditions across six mangrove sites in the coastal Everglades. The goal of this project was to quantify mangrove regeneration of seedlings and saplings in mid- and downstream locations within three estuaries in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA. We assessed the effects of porewater variables and light conditions on the observed regeneration patterns. The package includes seven datasets: FCE1268_Porewater: Contains measurements of porewater salinity, sulfide, ammonia, nitrite, orthophosphate, and nitrate at a 30 cm depth. Porewater surveys were conducted biannually from 09-10-2020 to 05-17-2022. See also similar porewater data for Florida Coastal Everglades (FCE) long-term sites in data packages knb-lter-fce.1169 and knb-lter-fce.1171, which contain data for SRS-5 and SRS-6, available in the FCE LTER website's data catalog or the EDI repository. FCE1268_Foliar_Nutrient_Content dataset, collected in August 2022, includes measurements of foliar nutrient content (total carbon, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus) for three mangrove species (A. germinans, L. racemosa, R. mangle) of two life stages—seedlings (height < 1 m) and saplings (height ≥ 1 m and Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) < 2.5 cm). FCE1268_Light contains light intensity (foot-candle) measurements taken at 1-hour intervals from 09-18-2020 to 08-29-2022 at mangrove sites and converted photosynthetic active radiation values from an outdoor mesocosm experiment. FCE1268_Sapling_Density provides biannual count measurements of individuals at the sapling plot level (4 m^-2) within each site from 07-09-2020 to 08-29-2022. Benthic chlorophyll concentrations and gross oxygenic photosynthesis rates in surficial estuarine intertidal sediments at sites on Sapelo Island and near the Satilla River from June and August 2002
Seasonal patterns of estuarine creek-bank and intertidal marsh benthic chlorophyll and gross oxygenic photosynthesis were investigated at several sites on Sapelo Island and the Satilla River in coastal Georgia. Benthic chlorophyll were measured in the bulk surface centimeter depth of sediment. Gross oxygenic photosynthesis rates were integrated over 100 um resolution measurements below the sediment water interface using oxygen microelectrodes. Several relatively pristine sites on Sapelo Island (Moses Hammock, Dean Creek and Marine Institute) and a presumably heavily impacted site (Dover Bluff) show similar levels of chlorophyll concentration and photosynthesis rate across bank and marsh zones with higher photosynthetic biomass and activity in the spring season. Nutrient inputs to these study sites are also suggested as a control on gross oxygenic photosynthesis rates as evidenced by a relationship between photosynthesis rate and land-use.

Long-term water quality monitoring in the Altamaha, Doboy and Sapelo sounds and the Duplin River near Sapelo Island, Georgia from May 2001 to August 2009
Water samples were collected on Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER oceanographic monitoring cuirses approximately every three months from May 2001 through December 2006 and monthly from November 2006 to August 2009. Concentrations of dissolved nutrients (ammonium, nitrate+nitrite, phosphate), dissolved organics (DOC, DON, DOP), particulate organic carbon and nitrogen, total suspended sediment, and total particulate iron and phosphorus were measured using standard analytical methods. The concentrations of six elements (calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, silicon, and strontium) were also determined occasionally using elemental analysis by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
GCE-LTER Hammock Well Vegetation and Invertebrate Monitoring - August 2010
In July 2008 the GCE LTER program selected two hammocks for intensive study: HN_i_1 and PC_i_29. HN_i_1 is of Holocene origin and is located adjacent to Blackbeard Island to the north of Sapelo Island, Georgia. PC_i_29 is also of Holocene origin and is located adjacent to the south end of Sapelo Island. These hammocks are of similar size, with similar vegetation zones in the high marsh environment. Groundwater well transects were established that run from the upland, through the marsh, and up and over the upland area of each hammock. Two permanent plots were established at each well in order to characterize the plant and invertebrate diversity and abundance by surveying plots once a year. This data set includes the results of August 2010 monitoring studies.
Rates of consumption of marsh periwinkles (Littoraria irrorata) by mud crabs (Eurytium limosum and Panopeus obesus) between August and December in a Georgia salt marsh
Predatory mud crabs (Panopeus obesus and Eurytium limosum) are two of the main resident infaunal predators in southeastern US salt marshes.The relative importance of the two species in the trophic control of marsh periwinkles (snails; Littoraria irrorata) is likley to change across seasons. We therefore manipulated the these predator species (Panopeus obesus and Eurytium limosum) in experimental cages in the field (at Dean Creek, Sapelo Island, GA) and assessed monthly predation rates over four months, between 15th August to 15th December. We included 3 treatments, consisting of two treatments containing each species alone, and one containing both species together; all treatments had the same density. Specifically, 1) 4 x Panopeus individuals; 2) 4 x Eurytium individuals; 3) 2 x Panopeus individuals + 2 Eurytium individuals. Only adult crabs (33-40mm carapace diameter) were used. We maintained the treatments over 4 months (15th Aug - 15th Dec 2009), replacing any missing crabs every two weeks and counting the number of snails killed by predators each month.
Maximum temperature at El Verde Field Station, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico from January 1975 to August 1992
Daily emperature has been measured at the El Verde Field Station since 1975 (see methods). Average record show that maximum values for maximum temperature recorded from May to October with a range from 29 to 30 and peaks of 29.7 Centigrade in October. The months of October through December show the most dramatic increase, specially December. Highest average maximum temperatures during these years were recorded in 1998 and 1999. MCR LTER: Coral Reef Resilience: Herbivore Bite Rates on the North Shore Forereef July-August 2010
These data describe bite rates of two abundant species of roving herbivorous fishes found on the forereef, Chlorurus sordidus (Scaridae), and Ctenochaetus striatus (Acanthuridae). During several days in July and August 2010, a SCUBA diver followed individual focal fish for a period of up to 5 minutes and recorded the number of bites taken as well the types of substrates bitten. Upon randomly locating a focal individual, divers estimated the total length of that individual as well as their depth at the initiation (and termination) of the observation. Data are organized in two data tables. The first data table (Focal_Herbivore_Bite_Rates) contains individuals that were observed at two depths (~ 10 m and ~ 17 m) at LTER 1 as part of a balanced sampling design (see Sampling Protocol/Design). The second data table (Additional_Bite_Rate_Data) contains individuals that were observed opportunistically at LTER 1 and Resilience 2. To minimize the effect of time of day on fish behavior, all data were collected between 10:00 and 16:00, a period of time which corresponds with peak feeding rates for many herbivorous fishes. MCR LTER: Coral Reef Resilience: Short-term Accumulation of Algal Biomass on Unglazed Ceramic Tiles from July 2010-August 2011
Caged tiles were placed at various sites to measure short-term algal accumulation in the absence of grazing by fishes or large invertebrates. These data document biomass of algae that accumulated on unglazed ceramic tiles (2.5 cm X 2.5 cm) placed inside cages (mesh size = 2.5 cm x 2.5 cm) at various sites around the island of Moorea for a period of 3 to 4 weeks. Three separate experiments were conducted (one during July-August 2010 and two in July-August 2011). In the first experiment (2010_Production), we measured the accumulation of algae after 24 days at two different depths on the forereef (10 and 17 m), and within the lagoon at four different distances from the reef crest (approximately 25, 100, 400, and 700 m). In the second experiment (2011_Production_Summary), we measured the accumulation of algae after 24 or 25 days at six forereef sites (LTER 1, Resilience 2, LTER 3, LTER 4, LTER 5, LTER 6). In this experiment, tiles were placed adjacent to the fish transects (see knb-lter-mcr.6) at a depth of 12 m. In the final experiment (Production_Time_Series), we measured the accumulation of algae on tiles at three day intervals over a period of 31 days. This experiment was conducted at Resilience 2. CTD Profiles from the R/V Sanna cruise to Northwest Greenland fjords, August 11-31, 2016
<p>Greenland fjords are the gateway connecting the Greenland Ice Sheet to the coastal ocean. The rapidly increasing discharge of meltwater and ice from the Greenland Ice Sheet has complex hydrodynamic and biogeochemically impacts on the coastal marine ecosystem around Greenland, although data is still limited for most fjord systems. Therefore, six different fjord systems in Northwest Greenland were investigated in August 2016 during an interdisciplinary research cruise aboard the R/V Sanna that On aimed to describe the physical, chemical and biological variability from glaciers to the shelf. This data set consists of 55 CTD profiles that were obtained with a Seabird 19plusV2 conductivity, temperature, depth CTD) instrument. In addition to measuring pressure, conductivity, and temperature, the CTD recorded chlorophyll-a fluorescence, photosynthetically available radiation (PAR), and dissolved oxygen. The instrument was factory calibrated before the cruise. The CTD recorded all variables at 4 Hz and the raw data were processed using Seabird standard workflow to produce 0.5 m binned profiles using the downcast data only. This dataset compiles all CTD variables measured from all profiles into a single netCDF file. </p> <p>We would like to thank the captain and crew of R/V Sanna for excellent collaboration. The cruise was funded by the Danish Center for Marine Research and by the EU Horizon2020 funded project INTAROS.</p>

<p>This dataset consists of low-altitude aerial imagery that was acquired by a DJI Phantom 3 Standard unoccupied aerial vehicle (UAV) in Dickson Fjord in northeast Greenland on 21 August 2018. The UAV survey commenced at 17:09 UTC. These images were processed in Agisoft PhotoScan Pro (v1.4; Linux Ubuntu). During the image alignment step in PhotoScan, the ‘High’ accuracy setting and key point and tie point limits of 60000 and 0 were used. Generic and reference preselection were disabled. Gradual selection was used to remove tie points that exceeded thresholds for the projection accuracy, reconstruction uncertainty, and reprojection error and the lens parameters were computed. Reference data from images DJI_417-419 were used to scale the sparse point cloud. The dense point cloud was then computed using the ‘High’ setting, followed by the textured mesh. The mesh model was exported in .obj and .pdf formats. </p> <p>A complete file list is provided in the README file that accompanies this dataset.</p> <p>This dataset is discussed in:</p> <p>Carlson et al. <p>This dataset was obtained from an untethered balloon launch into cloud near Adelaide, South Australia in August 2020. Carbonate Chemistry and δ18O-H2O from East and West Greenland fjords, August 2018 and 2016
<p>Greenland’s fjords and coastal waters are highly productive and sustain important fisheries, but retreating glaciers and increasing meltwater supply are changing fjord circulation and biogeochemistry, which may threaten the future productivity of these unique ecosystems. The freshening of Greenland fjords caused by unprecedented melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet has the potential to alter carbonate chemistry in coastal waters, which would influence CO<sub>2</sub> uptake as well as have biological consequences from acidification. However, few studies to date explore the current acidification state in Greenland coastal waters. Here we present the first-ever large-scale measurements of carbonate system parameters and δ<sup>18</sup>O measurements in 16 Greenlandic fjords and by combining datasets from two August cruises. HDMS Lauge Koch and RV Sanna cruises sampled on the East and West coast of Greenland in August 2018 and 2016 respectively. This dataset consists of 52 carbonate chemistry sample sites where dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), total alkalinity (TA), and δ<sup>18</sup>O-H<sub>2</sub>O were measured throughout the water column. Water samples were collected in Niskin bottles and were transferred directly into triplicate 12 ml exetainers with a gas tight Tygon tubes, allowing overflow of at least 3 times the volume of the exetainer. Triplicate exetainers were collected for both DIC and TA at each depth. Samples were preserved with HgCl<sub>2</sub> (saturated solution) to a final concentration of 0.02%. TA was measured on an Apollo SciTech AS-ALK2 total alkalinity titrator based on the Gran titration procedure for samples in West Greenland. While samples for East Greenland were measured on automatic titrator (Metrohm 888 Titrando), and a combined Metrohm glass electrode (Unitrode). DIC samples were analyzed on Apollo SciTech's AS-C3 analyzer for both cruises, using a sample volume of 0.5 ml. Routine analysis of Certified Reference Materials (provided by A. G. Dickson, Scripps Institution of Oceanography) verified that the accuracy of DIC and TA measurements. Omnibus Poll Ukraine - August 2023 (Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation + Razumkov Centre) – Random-sample questionnaire-based representative poll
This data collection offers a representative omnibus survey of the Ukrainian population, living in territories controlled by the Ukrainian government without ongoing armed hostilities. The survey was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center from 09 to 15 August 2023. The survey was conducted using a stratified multi-stage sample. The structure of the sample reflects the demographic structure of the adult population of the surveyed territories as of the beginning of 2022 (by age, gender, type of settlement). 2019 respondents aged 18 and older were interviewed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. At the same time, additional systematic sample deviations may be caused by the consequences of Russian aggression, in particular, the forced evacuation of millions of citizens. The survey covers five thematic fields: assessment of the current situation in the country, the Russian war of aggression, energy sector, corruption, volunteering. This data collection contains the original survey data. The SPSS file (.sav) is the original file provided by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation. It has been exported into an Excel file. The content of the respective xlsx-file should be identical with the original sav-file. The sav-file contains the questions and answer options of the original questionnaire in Ukrainian. The original questionnaire and an English translation are also included in this data collection as separate pdf-file. Additionally, the data collection contains three files with "selected results" which document some major results of the survey in the form of analytical summaries and descriptive statistics: two in English, covering assessment of the current situation in the country + the Russian war of aggression as well as volunteering; one in Ukrainian covering corruption. New in version 1.1: The numbering of questions in the separate questionnaire (file "DIF_CR_0823-questionnaire-revised.pdf") has been adjusted to the numbering in the original data file ("DIF_CR_0823.sav"). A third file with "selected results" has been added. New in version 1.2: An English translation of the questionnaire has been added under "files".
