Bubble measurement results for boiling bubbles in microgravity
<p>This dataset is supplementary material to the submission “Contour boundary detection and measurement of boiling bubbles in microgravity”, by Xenophon Zabulis, Polykarpos Karamaounas, Ourania Oikonomidou, Sotiris Evgenidis, Margaritis Kostoglou, Axel Sielaff, Peter Stephan, Thodoris Karapantsios. The dataset contains videos that show the results of contour tracing and contact angle estimation of the proposed method on the reference data sets provided in [1]. The results are provided in a lossless video format.</p> <p>The reference datasets are 15 and denoted as D1 to D15. Data sets, D6, D7, D8, D9 and D15 record one bubble. The rest record multiple bubbles.</p> <p>All videos show the estimated contact points, the traced bubble contour, and the estimated contact angles. Each video frame shows also the dataset, bubble number, and frame number, in the center of the found bubble. <p>During plunging wave breaking, a significant number of multi-scale bubbles emerge, which can persist for extended periods. These bubbles are accurately captured and tracked by a bubble-droplet detection program. The dataset provides detailed statistics on bubble properties, including size, velocity, and spatial distributions during the entire rising stage for three different wave slopes. </p>

<p>This is the data used in the paper "A possible explanation of interhemispheric asymmetry of Equatorial Plasma Bubbles in airglow images" by Hickey et al. (2020). Ionograms from Hyderabad and Tirunelveli are provided as PDFs. 7 MHz reflection heights from both ionosondes are provide in tab delimeted text file. A raw all-sky image is provided as a .tif file. Unwrapped all-sky images are provided as .tif files at 250, 275, and 300 km emission altitudes. The raw and unwrapped data for these images are provide in .dat files.</p>
Techno-economic model of Methane pyrolysis in liquid metal bubble column reactor for hydrogen direct reduction of iron ore
<p>Reducing emissions from the iron and steel industry is essential to achieve the Paris climate goals.A new system to reduce the carbon footprint of steel production is proposed in this article by coupling hydrogen direct reduction of iron ore (H-DRI) and natural gas pyrolysis on the liquid metal surface inside a bubble column reactor. If grid electricity from the EU is used, the emissions would be 435 kgCO\textsubscript{2}/tls without considering methane leakage from the extraction, storage, and transport of natural gas. Solid carbon, produced as a by-product of natural gas decomposition, finds applications in many industrial sectors, including as a replacement for coal in coke ovens. The specific energy consumption (SEC) of the proposed system is approximately 6.3 MWh per ton of liquid steel(tls).It is higher than other competing technologies,3.48 MWh/tls for water electrolysis based DRI, and 4.3-4.5 MWh/tls for natural gas-based DRI and blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) respectively. The utilization of large quantities of natural gas, where the carbon remains unused, is the major reason for the high SEC. Preliminary analysis of the system revealed that it has the potential to compete with existing technologies to produce CO\textsubscript{2}free steel, if renewable electricity is used. Further studies on the kinetics of the bubble column reactor, H-DRI shaft furnace, design, and sizing of components, along with the building of industrial prototypes are required to improve the understanding of the system performance.</p>

Experimental Investigation of the Bubble Size Distribution in a Mini Plant Batch Bubble Column With Variation of Gas Flux, Bubble Column Height and Composition of the Liquid Phase
<p>This data set contains bubble size distributions (BSD) measured in a dN = 100 mm mini-plant batch bubble column. The BSD were measured using the optical multimode online probe. The liquid holdup, the feed gas volume flow rate/flux, the composition of the liquid phase (water or aqueous solutions of NaCl, EtOH, glycerol or Na2SO3) and the measuring position in the bubble column were varied. </p>
