Stable isotope records and bulk chemical compositions of the early Paleogene intervals of ODP Hole 762C
<p>In this study, we examined marine carbonate sediments of the late Paleocene to middle Eocene interval from the ODP Hole 762C, located on the Exmouth Plateau in the mid-latitude eastern Indian Ocean. This new dataset includes bulk carbonate δ13C and δ18O records, as well as bulk chemical composition of the sediments. By combining δ13C data with previously published magneto-biostratigraphic records, we revised the age model based on the newly identified hyperthermal event layers.</p> <p>Description of files:</p> <ul> <li>Supporting Table S3 : Bulk δ13C and δ18O data of ODP Hole 762C.</li> <li>Supporting Table S4 : Major and trace element data of ODP Hole 762C</li> </ul>

Monitoring of the physico-chemical composition of the Seine River based on the MeSeine network
<p>In Europe, the management of freshwater ecosystem is governed by the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/CE) and its transposing legislation in France (2006-1772 of December 2006). The good ecological status of water are evaluated using a combination of several indicators such as biological and physico-chemical parameters. The Seine River crosses several important urbanized areas of France, including the Parisian conurbation (9 millions inhabitants). To ensure the good ecological status of the Seine River, the Greater Paris Conurbation Sanitation Authority (SIAAP), has constructed and operated the MeSeine network since 1990. MeSeine constitutes a tool for evaluating the quality of the Seine river and its tributaries (Marne, Oise) in terms of physico-chemistry, bacteriology, micro-contamination and faunal diversity.</p> <p>The MeSeine network extends along 125 km of the Seine River (from Choisy to Méricourt) and over 13 km along the Marne River (frome Champigny to Alfortville). It is structured around tree pillars:</p> <ul> <li>Real time monitoring of the physico-chemical composition of the Seine river using in situ sensor, in particular dissolved oxygen and temperature sensors</li> <li>Sampling and laboratory analysis campaigns to monitor watercourses quality and comply with the quality standards as defined by the Water Framework Directive (good ecological and chemical parameters)</li> <li>Biota monitoring to appreciate the diversity of fish populations, macro-invertebrates and diatoms.</li> </ul> <p>The aim of this work is to provide data on the physico-chemical quality of the Seine generated by the MeSeine observatory via the open platform Zenodo.</p>

Chemical composition of DCH-67.55 cryptotephra glass shards from Lake Chala
<p>Mean composition data based on <em>n</em> single DeepCHALLA cryptotephra glass shard analyses of major and minor element oxides (by WDS-EPMA, <em>n</em>=32) and trace elements (by LA-ICP-MS, <em>n</em>=19). Also shown are compositions of secondary glass standards measured during the same instrumental runs, and their correspondence with approximate expected values for in-house Lipari glass and with GeoRem-preferred (pref. val.) or true values for MPI-DING glass secondary standards (Marshall et al., 2009; Scot and Skilling, 1999).</p>

Carbon availability affects already large species-specific differences in chemical composition of ectomycorrhizal fungal mycelia in pure culture
<p>Although ectomycorrhizal (ECM) contribution to soil organic matter processes receives increased attention, little is known about fundamental differences in chemical composition among species, and how that may be affected by carbon (C) availability. Here we study how 16 species (incl. 19 isolates) grown in pure culture at three different C:N ratios (10:1, 20:1 and 40:1) vary in chemical structure, using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. We hypothesised that C availability impacts directly on chemical composition, expecting increased C availability to lead to more carbohydrates and less proteins in the mycelia. There were strong and significant effects of ECM species (R2 = 0.873 and P = 0.001) and large species-specific differences in chemical composition. Chemical composition also changed significantly with C availability, and increased C led to more polysaccharides and less proteins for many species, but not all. Understanding how chemical composition change with altered C availability is a first step towards understanding their role in organic matter accumulation and decomposition.</p>

Chemical composition of precipitation at the Virginia Coast Reserve 1990-2015
This data set characterizes the chemical composition of precipitation sampled weekly on the Virginia eastern shore in collaboration with the VCR LTER. The early portion of the record corresponds to precipitation sampled adjactent to the meteorological station on Hog Island. The latter portion of the record corresponds to precipitation sampled at the GATR site on the Eastern Shore Wildlife Refuge. Samples were analyzed at the University of Virginia using procedures similar to those employed by the Global Precipitation Chemistry Project (GPCP), Western Atlantic Ocean Experiment (WATOX), and the Atmosphere Ocean Chemistry Experiment (AEROCE). Following extensive damage to the collection system by Hurricane Isabel in Sept. 2003, the unit was moved to the property of the Anheuser Busch Coastal Research Center in Oyster, VA. Data collection was terminated on 12/30/2015.
