PIE LTER nutrient grab samples collected between December 1998 and July 2017 in the mainstem, tributaries, and headwater streams in the Ipswich and Parker River watersheds, Massachusetts.

Data set of Ipswich and Parker Rivers and tributaries in Massachusetts collected between December 1998 and July 2017 by MBL, UNH and/or members of the Ipswich and Parker River watershed associations. The data is primarily nutrient content of the streams, but there are some physical descriptors (i.e. discharge, temperature, dissolved oxygen) for some dates and sites. Site description file for all stations sampled in WAT-UNH-IPPR-Synoptic file can be found in WAT-UNH-IPPR-Synoptic-Sites file.

High-marsh invertebrate densities for Rowley River tidal creeks associated with long term fertilization experiments, Rowley and Ipswich, MA.

Density (individuals per m2) of epibenthic invertebrate (on the surface such as snails and amphipods) for Rowley River tidal creeks associated with long term fertilization experiments, Rowley and Ipswich, MA. The TIDE project aims to simulate eutrophication on a large scale by the addition of NO3- aiming to reach 70μM concentrations from May to September every year during the growing season. Marsh fertilization from 2004 - 2016 at Sweeney Creek and 2005, and 2009-2016 at Clubhead Creek. Nutrient enrichment ended in 2016.

River herring abundance in the Ipswich and Parker Rivers, Massachusetts, 1972 to present

This dataset summarizes abundance to assess the current status of alewife (Alosa pseudoharengus) and blueback herring (Alosa aestivalis) in Massachusetts rivers.Data from 2011 and earlier is from Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries Technical Report TR-46. Catch data from 2012-2015 was provided by Ben Gahagan and John Sheppard from DMF. Visual counts are a mix of both fish species as they pass through a restriction in the river. Count data for three (Parker, Monument and Mattapoisett Rivers) of the five rivers used to estimate Massachusetts trends in passage and total run size indicated a precipitous decline in alewife abundance after 2000. Data for The Parker and Ipswich rivers are relavant to the Plum Island Ecosystems project.

Estimated River Length for Rivers in the Ipswich and Parker River Watersheds - ASCII Raster File

This datalayer is a gridded data set of cell length, corresponding with an estimate of river length, for rivers in Plum Island Sound watershed. The resolution is 120 m x 120 m. This layer gives length of each grid cell (either as 120m if vertical or horizontal, or 169.7 if diagonal). This information is derived from the flow direction data file: WAT-RGIS-120m-FlowDirection.asc Provide length of river, uncorrected for sub grid cell meandering, which is assumed to be relativelty small.

Stream Order for drainage to streams in the Ipswich or Parker River Network - ASCII Raster File

This datalayer is a gridded data set that identifies for each pixel the stream order that drainage from the pixel initially enters into the river network. The resolution is 120 m x 120 m. Based on the flow direction in: WAT-RGIS-120m-FlowDirection.asc. First order streams at the 120m resolution are equivalent to third order when calculated at the pixel level from the drainage direction grid (i.e. 3rd order pixels are equivalent to 1st order streams, 4th order pixels are second order streams, etc). Idenitify the distribution of inputs from land to streams of different sizes.

Estimated Distance from the Ocean for River Grid Cells - Parker and Ipswich Watersheds - ASCII Raster File

This datalayer is a gridded data set of the estimated distance (km) to ocean from each point in the gridded river network. The resolution is 120 m x 120 m. Based on the flow direction in: WAT-RGIS-120m-FlowDirection.asc Provide the distance to ocean for each grid cell.
