TROPESS CrIS-SNPP L2 for Beijing Megacity, Standard Product V1 (TRPSDL2ALLCRSMGBEI) at GES DISC
The TROPESS CrIS-SNPP L2 for Beijing Megacity, Standard Product contains the vertical distribution of seven retrieved atmospheric gases (CH4, CO, H2O, HDO, NH3, O3 and PAN) and temperature, along with formal uncertainties measured by the CrIS instrument on the Suomi-NPP satellite. This standard product is one of the TROPESS Special Collections, centered on a 3x3 degree region over Beijing for the time period from 2016-01-02 to 2021-05-21. The NASA TRopospheric Ozone and Precursors from Earth System Sounding (TROPESS) project, uses an optimal estimation algorithm, known as the MUlti-SpEctra, MUlti-SpEcies, Multi-SEnsors (MUSES).The data files are written in the netCDF version 4 file format, and each file contains one day of data. The data have a spatial resolution of 14 km (CrIS nadir FOV), and are reported at 17 vertical levels from the surface to 0.1 hPa. The principal investigator for the TROPESS project is Kevin W. Bowman.

Increase of High Molecular Weight Organosulfate with Intensifying Urban Air Pollution in the Megacity Beijing
<p>Organosulfates (OSs), a key component of secondary organic aerosols (SOA), account for up to one third of organic matter in the atmosphere. However, high-molecular-weight (HMW, 500–800 Da) OSs in ambient aerosolsare poorly characterized at a molecular level, due to experimental difficulties. With Fourier transform-ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICRMS),we are able to identify more than eight thousand OSsin wintertime aerosols in Beijing. We found that both the number and signal magnitudesof HMW OSs with low H/C and O/C ratios and degrees of unsaturation were greatly enhanced during hazy days, indicating that most HMW OSs were freshly formed during stagnant air-pollution episodes. They are most likely to be the oxidation products of semi- to low-volatility precursors (e.g., polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and fatty acids) and have showed a strong influence of anthropogenic emissions.The molecular corridor analysissuggests that the high abundance of HMWaromatic-like and aliphatic OSsconsiderably decreases the volatility of organic aerosols in the urban atmosphere.</p>
