Sevilleta Field Station Meteorological Network (SevMET): High frequency measurements from the West Mesa Meteorological Station (WSMS), Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, NM, USA, 2024-ongoing.

The Sevilleta Field Station Meteorological Network (SevMET) is a spatially distributed, long-term climate monitoring network established to enhance and expand climate monitoring across a variety of dryland ecosystems (e.g., grasslands, shrublands, woodlands) within the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge in central New Mexico. Ecosystem processes in drylands are strongly regulated by climatic drivers that are highly variable in space and time, both within and among years. Therefore, accurate measurement of environmental variables at high spatial and temporal resolution is fundamental to understanding biophysical processes in these ecosystems. SevMET consists of fifteen standardized research-grade weather stations located across multiple dryland ecosystem types (e.g., grasslands, shrublands, woodlands) representative of the southwestern US. Stations continuously measure a standard suite of meteorological variables at five-minute intervals, including air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, photosynthetically active radiation, incoming shortwave radiation, wind speed and direction, dew point, vapor pressure, and, at a subset of stations, barometric pressure. Stations also measure a suite of soil parameters (bulk electrical conductivity, dielectric permittivity, temperature, and volumetric water content) at six depths (5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 cm) below the ground surface using 1-2 integrated soil profilers. Additionally, phenocams at each station capture images at thirty-minute intervals during daylight hours. This data package contains high-frequency meteorological measurements from the Tule 222 Well Meteorological Station (WSMS). Phenocam images can be accessed through the PhenoCam Network at: https://phenocam.nau.edu/webcam/sites/sevmetwsms/.

Photomineralization apparent quantum yield at 309 nm for DOC leached from permafrost soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in the summer of 2015

Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was leached from permafrost soils near the Toolik Field Station in the Alaskan Arctic and then characterized for its photochemical properties. The apparent quantum yield of photomineralization (photochemical carbon dioxide, CO2, production) of permafrost DOC was quantified at 309 nm.

Snakeweed Patch Vegetation Quad Data at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, NM (1984, 1996)

In 1984, a research project was initiated on a relatively small disturbance patch just south of Deep Well. This disturbance was thought to be the result of an old praire dog town, probably dating back to when a nearby ranch was active, and a lot of old mammal mounds remained in the disturbed area. One of the things that made the disturbance patch particularily noticeable was the lush growth of snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae) within the patch. This prompted the designation of the disturbance patch as the "snakeweed patch" or "Gutierrezia patch." In addition, there was an obvious increase in bare ground and a shift in vegetation composition across the patch boundary. The dominant vegetation was not consistent around the boundary, with a marked dominance of black grama on the west side of the plot and a blue/black grama mix on the other three sides. To obtain information on the cause and/or effect of this disturbance, a survey of the soil and vegetation was performed. This database contains information collected during the vegetation monitoring that was done on the plot in 1984, as well as a follow-up measurement done in 1996. By 1996, virtually all of the snakeweed had died due to a dry period.

Ultrafast Infrared Transient Absorption Spectroscopy of Gas-Phase Ni(CO)4 Photodissociation at 261 nm

<p>This is the data repository for the following publication:</p> <p>Neil C. Cole-Filipiak, Jan Tross, Paul Schrader, Laura M. McCaslin, and Krupa Ramasesha, &quot;Ultrafast infrared transient absorption spectroscopy of gas-phase Ni(CO)4 photodissociation at 261 nm,&quot; J. Chem. Phys. 156, 144306 (2022), https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0080844.</p> <p><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p>We employ ultrafast mid-infrared transient absorption spectroscopy to probe the rapid loss of carbonyl ligands from gas-phase nickel tetracarbonyl following ultraviolet photoexcitation at 261&nbsp;nm. Here, nickel tetracarbonyl undergoes prompt dissociation to produce nickel tricarbonyl in a singlet excited state; this electronically excited tricarbonyl loses another CO group over tens of picoseconds. Our results also suggest the presence of a parallel, concerted dissociation mechanism to produce nickel dicarbonyl in a triplet excited state, which likely dissociates to nickel monocarbonyl. Mechanisms for the formation of these photoproducts in multiple electronic excited states are theoretically predicted with one-dimensional cuts through the potential energy surfaces and computation of spin&ndash;orbit coupling constants using equation of motion coupled cluster methods (EOM-CC) and coupled cluster theory with single and double excitations (CCSD). Bond dissociation energies are calculated with CCSD, and anharmonic frequencies of ground and excited state species are computed using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Experimental Data:</strong></p> <p>All data are saved as a .csv file. The first column contains frequencies (in cm-1) while the first row indexes each time delay (in ps). High-resolution transient spectra at select time delays are similarly structured. Each transient .csv file is labeled according to molecule, pump wavelength, file contents, pump laser power, pressure, and a date (<em>e.g.</em> NT261_trans_1mW_1.5torr_17Feb2021.csv).</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Computational Data:</strong></p> <p>This data repository consists of 7 directories, which contain the data used in the main paper.&nbsp; Computational data published in the supplementary material may be requested from the corresponding authors.</p> <p>Anharmonic frequencies and DFT energies can be obtained in the directory &quot;VPT2&quot;, where the files are labelled nicoX_*_anharm.out, where X=3,2,1 (the compound) and * corresponds to the electronic state for which the calculation was performed.</p> <p>EOM-CC calculations of the spin-orbit coupling constants at the geometries reported are found within the &quot;SOCC&quot; directory using the naming convention nicoX_[]_so_*.out, where X=3,2, []=an indication of the geometry, and * corresponds to the electronic state for which the calculation was performed.</p> <p>Calculations of the minimum energy crossing points (MECPs) can be found in the directory &quot;MECP&quot; using the naming convention nicoX_min*.out, where X=4,3,2,1, and * corresponds to the two electronic states for which the MECP is calculated (e.g. s0s1).</p> <p>The following 4 directories contain all the EOM-CC output files needed to reproduce the curves from Figure 2: 4to3, 3to2, 4to2, and 2to1, corresponding to panels a, b, c, and d, respectively.&nbsp; The naming conventions for the files within these directories are X_yz.out, where X=the name of the directory, y=the value of the reaction coordiante, and z=s (singlet) or t (triplet).</p>
