<p>This upload includes both original and supplementary data for the publication "Unsupervised Analysis of Optical Imaging Data for the Discovery of Reactivity Patterns in Metal Alloy" by R. Li, A. Makogon, T. Galochkina, J-F. Lemineur, F. Kanoufi, and V. Shkirskiy, published in the Small Methods journal. The preprint version of the paper is available on ChemRxiv (<a href="https://doi.org/10.26434/chemrxiv-2023-sgvt0">https://doi.org/10.26434/chemrxiv-2023-sgvt0</a>).</p> <p>The file "Data_processing.zip" contains the original optical image of the interface, maps of film evolution rates in acidic and salt environments, COMSOL data output in acidic and salt environments, as well as a Jupyter Lab file that demonstrates how to process this data.</p> <p>The file "Comparison_of_SEM_images.zip" includes the original SEM images used in the current study and in our previous work (<a href="https://doi.org/10.26434/chemrxiv-2022-rn77b-v3">https://doi.org/10.26434/chemrxiv-2022-rn77b-v3</a>), along with a Jupyter Lab file that illustrates the data processing procedure.</p> <p>The file "Original_data_in_npy_format.zip" contains all original data from SEM/EDX and RM experiments.</p> <p>We recommend opening the Jupyter Lab files in a Python 3 environment. PDF files in the root directory provide outputs of all uploaded Jupyter Lab files.</p>
Calcium imaging data from: Functional organization of visual responses in the octopus optic lobe
<p>Cephalopods are highly visual animals with camera-type eyes, large brains, and a rich repertoire of visually guided behaviors. However, the cephalopod brain evolved independently from that of other highly visual species, such as vertebrates, and therefore the neural circuits that process sensory information are profoundly different. It is largely unknown how their powerful but unique visual system functions, since there have been no direct neural measurements of visual responses in the cephalopod brain. In this study, we used two-photon calcium imaging to record visually evoked responses in the primary visual processing center of the octopus central brain, the optic lobe, to determine how basic features of the visual scene are represented and organized. We found spatially localized receptive fields for light (ON) and dark (OFF) stimuli, which were retinotopically organized across the optic lobe, demonstrating a hallmark of visual system organization shared across many species. Examination of these responses revealed transformations of the visual representation across the layers of the optic lobe, including the emergence of the OFF pathway and increased size selectivity. We also identified asymmetries in the spatial processing of ON and OFF stimuli, which suggest unique circuit mechanisms for form processing that may have evolved to suit the specific demands of processing an underwater visual scene. This study provides insight into the neural processing and functional organization of the octopus visual system, highlighting both shared and unique aspects, and lays a foundation for future studies of the neural circuits that mediate visual processing and behavior in cephalopods.</p>

"Contrast based circular approximation for accurate and robust optic disc segmentation in retinal images" - Code
<p>A new method for automatic optic disc localization and segmentation is presented. The localization procedure combines vascular and brightness information to provide the best estimate of the optic disc center which is the starting point for the segmentation algorithm. A detection rate of 99.58% and 100% was achieved for the Messidor and ONHSD databases, respectively. A simple circular approximation to the optic disc boundary is proposed based on the maximum average contrast between the inner and outer ring of a circle centered on the estimated location. An average overlap coefficient of 0.890 and 0.865 was achieved for the same datasets, outperforming other state of the art methods. The results obtained confirm the advantages of using a simple circular model under non ideal conditions as opposed to more complex deformable models.</p>
