KM2112 SCOPE-PARAGON-1 cruise, Wirewalker

<p>This dataset was collected during the 2021 SCOPE-PARAGON-1 cruise. This cruise was directed towards understanding the processes and rates of biological particulate matter transformations (e.g., production, decomposition, sinking) as well as the ecological interactions that occur in association with suspended and sinking particles. These targeted studies of particle dynamics at Station ALOHA leveraged ongoing ecological and biogeochemical modeling efforts in SCOPE. The Wirewalker is a &nbsp;wave-powered drifting profiler designed to collect autonomous, vertically-resolved oceanographic observations. The profiler moves along a wire that is suspended between a float at the sea surface and a weight placed at a depth of tens or hundreds of meters. The system horizontal displacement follows the ocean currents. Wirewalker measurements include temperature, salinity, depth, beam attenuation, backscattering, chlorophyll fluorescence, CDOM fluorescence, downwelling irradiance in four spectral bands, and dissolved oxygen concentration.</p>

Mining the health disparities and minority health bibliome: A computational scoping review and gap analysis of 200,000+ articles

<p>Without comprehensive examination of available literature on health disparities and minority health (HDMH), the field is left vulnerable to disproportionately focus on specific populations or conditions, curtailing our ability to fully advance health equity. Using scalable open-source methods, we conducted a computational scoping review of more than 200,000 articles to investigate major populations, conditions, and themes in the literature as well as notable gaps. We also compared trends in studied conditions to their relative prevalence in the general population using insurance claims (42 million Americans). HDMH publications represent 1% of articles in MEDLINE. Most studies are observational in nature, though randomized trial reporting has increased five-fold in the last twenty years. Half of all HDMH articles concentrate on only three disease groups (cancer, mental health, endocrine/metabolic disorders), while hearing, vision, and skin-related conditions are among the least well-represented despite substantial prevalence. To support further investigation, we also present HDMH Monitor, an interactive dashboard and repository generated from the HDMH bibliome.</p>

Data from "The academic impact of Open Science: a scoping review"

<p>These files include the data from the "The societal impact of Open Science - a scoping review", part of a series of studies conducetd within the PathOS Horizon Europe project on the academic, economic, and societal impacts of Open Science. This study was conducted in two phases. In phase 1 an academic database search was conducted. A survey of access to the digital collections of 195 UK GLAMs across internal and external platforms - Appendix 1 for A Culture of Copyright: A scoping study on open access to digital cultural heritage collections in the UK

<p>Created for the<a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6242611"> &#39;A Culture of Copyright: A scoping study on open access to digital cultural heritage collections in the UK&#39; </a>report, this sample replicates and expands the Open galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAMs) Survey data extraction and methodology to include a range of GLAMs across the UK and new data points. The initial sample of 350 organisations included Independent Research Organisations (IROs) and Research Centre Institutes (RCIs), GLAMs associated with <a href="https://www.nationalcollection.org.uk/">Towards a National Collection</a> Foundation and Discovery projects, UK GLAMs in the Open GLAM Survey, and other UK GLAMs and related organisations. An initial review was performed to identify and remove organisations outside the scope of inquiry (<em>e.g.</em>, no permanent collections). The final sample included 195 organisations.</p> <p>From the final sample, 24 are IROs (all RCIs were removed). Another 32 are Universities (including GLAMs within universities). This brings the total number of organisations eligible for AHRC funding to 56 (or 28.6%). The remaining 140 include public and private GLAMs at national, regional and local levels (<em>e.g., </em>councils, historic buildings) and research initiatives or data aggregators (<em>e.g.,</em> Portable Antiquities Scheme, Culture Grid, Archaeology Data Service). Organisations are distributed across the UK as follows: Channel Islands (1 total); England (154 total); Isle of Man (1 total); Northern Ireland (5 total); Scotland (28 total); Wales (6 total).</p> <p>A survey of the copyright and open access policies of 63 GLAMs from the UK GLAM Sample is available on Zenodo at: <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6242559">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6242559</a></p>

Dataset Methods for stratification and validation cohorts: a scoping review

<p>We searched PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library for reviews that described the tools and methods applied to define cohorts used for patient stratification or validation of patient clustering. We focused on cancer, stroke, and Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease (AD) and limited the searches to reports in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, published from 2005 to April 2020. Two authors screened the records, and one extracted the key information from each included review. The result of the screening process was reported through a PRISMA flowchart.</p>

Data from: The scope and adaptive value of modulating aggression across breeding stages: Case study in a competitive female songbird

<p><span><span>In seasonally breeding animals, costs and benefits of territorial aggression should vary over time; however, little work thus far has directly examined the scope and adaptive value of individual-level plasticity in aggression across breeding stages. We explore these issues using </span><span>the tree swallow (</span></span><em><span><span>Tachycineta bicolor</span></span></em><span><span>), a bird species in which females compete for limited nesting sites</span> <span>before producing a single brood. We measured the aggressiveness of nearly 100 females within three different stages: (1) shortly after territory-establishment, (2) during early incubation, and (3) while caring for young chicks. </span></span><span><span>We used k-means clustering to categorize females into four distinct plasticity 'types' based on the timing, direction, and magnitude of their changes in aggression between stages. We then tested whether plasticity type and stage-specific aggression </span><span>vary</span><span> with </span><span>key</span><span> performance metrics.</span></span><span><span> Two of the four</span> <span>plasticity</span><span> types became less aggressive </span><span>across consecutive breeding stages</span><span>, consistent with population-level patterns, though these plasticity types </span><span>largely </span><span>did not differ from one another in survival or reproductive success</span></span><span><span>. A third type was characterized by high levels of among-stage plasticity</span><span>; </span><span>these females</span><span>, </span><span>had </span><span>significantly </span><span>lower body mass while parenting, </span><span>tended to hatch fewer eggs,</span> <span>and </span><span>had the lowest observed </span><span>overwinter survival </span><span>rates</span><span>. </span><span>A final type exhibited </span><span>limited</span><span> plasticity, with moderate to low levels of aggression </span><span>in all stages; </span><span>this low plasticity </span><span>-</span><span> low aggression phenotype</span><span> was not associated </span><span>with any </span><span>negative</span> <span>effects to </span><span>performance</span><span>.</span> <span>These</span><span> results reveal substantial among-individual variation in behavioral plasticity, which may reflect diverse solutions to trade-offs between current reproduction and future survival.</span></span></p>

What is learned in approach-avoidance tasks? On the scope and generalizability of approach-avoidance effects

<p>Previous research has shown that approaching a stimulus makes it more positive, while avoiding a stimulus makes it more negative. The present research demonstrates that approach-avoidance behaviors have the potential to charge stimulus attributes such as color with evaluative meaning. This evaluation carries over to other stimuli with that feature. We address the latter point by assessing the influence of colors that were approached or avoided on the perceived attractiveness of persons wearing those colors. We show that wearing a certain color makes people appear more attractive when this color is associated with approach rather than avoidance. In line with a self-perception account of these effects, we obtained approach-avoidance effects on stimulus attributes only when participants carried out approach-avoidance behaviors towards these colors or imagined doing so. This set of experiments adds to the evaluative learning literature by demonstrating approach-avoidance effects on stimulus attributes and that these effects carry over to new classes of stimuli and new tasks. Moreover, we systematically investigated boundary conditions for these effects. Finally, with this research we introduce an ontogenetic perspective to research into colors and their influence on psychological functioning.</p>
