These investors can be disproportionally influenced by information they receive online, and particularly from social media. This paper presents a dataset of crypto-related bounty events and the users that participate in them. These events coordinate social media campaigns to create artificial &quot;hype&quot; around a crypto project in order to influence the price of its token. The dataset consists of information about 15.8K cross-media bounty events, 185K participants, 10M forum comments and 82M social media URLs collected from the Bounties(Altcoins) subforum of the BitcoinTalk online forum from May 2014 to December 2022. We describe the data collection and the data processing methods employed and we present a basic characterization of the dataset. Furthermore, we discuss potential research opportunities afforded by the dataset across many disciplines and we highlight potential novel insights into how the cryptocurrency industry operates and how it interacts with its audience.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Dataset of the study "Think globally, act locally": A glocal approach to old and new literacies for social media skills

<p>This Zenodo item contains the dataset of the study: Manca, S., Bocconi, S., &amp; Gleason, B. (2020).&nbsp;&ldquo;Think globally, act locally&rdquo;. A glocal approach to old and new literacies for social media skills. Computers &amp; Education.</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>Despite the documented number of studies that investigate social media in teaching and learning settings, the topic of social media literacy is still an under-researched area. This study adopts the theoretical lens of New Literacy studies to suggest a combined perspective for investigating social media literacies. This perspective considers both social media skills that are transversal across different social media (global skills) or that pertain to a specific social media platform (local skills). It examines practices that are decontextualized (literacy as something to be acquired) or situated and context-dependent (literacy through participation). To map current research on social media skills, a systematic literature review was conducted. Analysis of 54 publications was carried out following the UNESCO DLGF framework for digital literacy competencies, and also using a critical lens based on four metaphors whereby, for learning purposes, social media are seen as a <em>tool</em>, as a <em>process</em>, as <em>collaboration</em>, and as <em>participation</em>. The results show that most of the studies consider global social media skills, while only a few examine skills sets specific to a particular social media platform. Besides, most of the identified skills concern decontextualized practices, with very few studies emphasizing the importance of fostering situated social media practices. We conclude that there is a need for more expansive theoretical elaboration in the field, and provide a number of recommendations for investigating, understanding, and designing educational curricula and activities that support the development of social media literacy.</p>

SemEval-2020 Task 12: Multilingual Offensive Language Identification in Social Media (OffensEval 2020)

<p>The task involves three subtasks corresponding to the hierarchical taxonomy of the OLID schema (Zampieri et al., 2019) from OffensEval 2019. The task featured five languages and this upload is for the English language. In addition, English also featured Subtasks B and C. OffensEval 2020 was one of the most popular tasks at SemEval-2020 attracting a large number of participants across all subtasks and also across all languages. Social media images from Peneda-Gerês National Park, Northern Portugal

<p>This dataset contains images from the Peneda-Ger&ecirc;s&nbsp;National Park, Northern Portugal. The images were collected from the Flickr and Wikiloc&nbsp;platforms considering a time period from 2003 to 2017.&nbsp;In respect to the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679, social media data protected by users&rsquo; rights was not downloaded nor analysed. Public data that would potentially contain personal information from social media users was kept anonymous through the study.&nbsp;Data was retrieved through the use of the freely available Flickr&rsquo;s Application Programming Interface (API), indicating a time window and a bounding box with a pair of coordinates (in our case: minimum latitude: 41.653104; maximum lat.: 42.083595; min. longitude: -8.426270; max. lon.: -7.754076) around Peneda-Ger&ecirc;s. This information was then saved as an excel file with the following attributes: user-id, date taken, latitude, longitude, picture uniform resource locator (url).</p> <p>A first annotation, in the context of cultural ecosystem services (CES),&nbsp;was performed by dividing the photographs of the dataset into &ldquo;Indoor&rdquo; and &ldquo;Outdoor&rdquo; classes.&nbsp;Only the &ldquo;Outdoor&rdquo; pictures were included in this study, since CES are directly connected to nature and environment, which in turn are related to the outside/outdoor. The &ldquo;Outdoor&rdquo; images were further divided into two main classes, &ldquo;Natural&rdquo; and &ldquo;Human&rdquo;, depending on whether the image was dominated by natural or man-made elements.&nbsp;Lastly, a finer annotation for outdoor images was also provided, which encompasses the following six classes: &ldquo;Species&rdquo;, &ldquo;Landscape&rdquo;, &ldquo;Nature&rdquo;, &ldquo;Human activities&rdquo;, &ldquo;Human structures&rdquo; and &ldquo;Posing&rdquo;. &ldquo;Species&rdquo; pictures respectively pertained to close-up shots of animals or plants in the wild, translating CES pertaining to biodiversity appreciation. &ldquo;Landscape&rdquo; pictures show wide-open shots of nature in the wild, often with a visible horizon most often representing people&rsquo;s enjoyment of landscape aesthetics. &ldquo;Human activities&rdquo; include pictures where people engage in by recreational activities, for instance related to sports such as ski or cycling. &ldquo;Human structures&rdquo; include those pictures where man-made structures dominate in the wild, e.g., historical monuments and churches, capturing situations of cultural heritage and spiritual enrichment. &ldquo;Posing&rdquo; refers to pictures with people looking at the camera, with recognizable faces, testifying social enjoyment and sense of identity. Finally, &ldquo;Nature&rdquo; pictures capture natural elements with no particular feature (such as species) but with an intermediate shot (differing from wide-open shots attributed to landscapes), expressing the appreciation of nature by people.</p>

Data From: Analysing social media forums to discover potential causes of phasic shifts in cryptocurrency price series

<p>The recent extreme volatility in cryptocurrency prices occurred in the setting of popular social media forums devoted to the discussion of cryptocurrencies. We develop a framework that discovers potential causes of phasic shifts in the price movement captured by social media discussions. This draws on principles developed in healthcare epidemiology where, similarly, only observational data are available. Such causes may have a major, one-off effect or recurring effects on the trend in the price series. We find a one-off effect of regulatory bans on bitcoin, the repeated effects of rival innovations on ether and the influence of technical traders, captured through discussion of market price, on both cryptocurrencies. The results for Bitcoin differ from Ethereum, which is consistent with the observed differences in the timing of the highest price and the price phases. This framework could be applied to a wide range of cryptocurrency price series where there exists a relevant social media text source. Identified causes with a recurring effect may have value in predictive modelling, whilst one-off causes may provide insight into unpredictable black swan events that can have a major impact on a system.</p>

Results: (74.7%) of nursing students were interested in Digital communication, and more than half (55.3 %) knew about Digital communication and social media, there's a statistical association between the academic level and students' interest. Analyzing Linguistic Patterns in the Social Media Discourse of Juan Guaidó and Nicolás Maduro during the 2019 Political Conflict in Venezuela - research data

<p>In this paper, the political conflict in Venezuela in 2019 is approached from a corpus linguistic point of view. The conflict between Juan Guaid&oacute;, the speaker of the parliament, and Nicol&aacute;s Maduro, who won the internationally unrecognized 2018 presidential election, escalated on January 23, 2019, when Guaid&oacute; proclaimed himself the legitimate president of Venezuela. By comparatively analyzing the tweets of the two politicians three months before and after January 23, 2019, a corpus-based discourse analysis will be conducted to investigate whether and to what extent linguistic patterns (especially most frequent words and their co-occurrences, as well as n-grams) change within the respective social media communication of these political opponents. The analysis reveals changes in linguistic patterns, especially with respect to co-occurrences and n-grams, detected in the corpus data, and demonstrates that politicians use Twitter to present themselves, in the case of Guaid&oacute;, as the representative of the people wanting to lead Venezuela into a democratic future, and, in the case of Maduro, as the only legitimate president and defender of Venezuela against internal and external threats.</p>

The Pontifical Bolivarian University and 2030 Agenda: Scientific production, access modalities, and social media impact.

<p><span>The 2030 Agenda and SDGs promote global resilience. Universities play a crucial role in their implementation through research and education. Recent studies analyze SDG-related scientific production, but evaluating the accessibility and social impacts of these results remains lacking. The article aims to analyze the intersection between SDGs, open access, and social impact of science, based on an analysis of PBU academic production in Colombia. A mixed-method approach is employed, combining quantitative and qualitative elements with scientometric techniques and data mining analysis, as well as big data from the perspective of Social Sciences. PBU scientific production analysis reveals increased research activity, with most publications available in open access. Thematic focuses such as health, sustainable development, and energy are highlighted. Thematic diversity reflects a multidisciplinary approach, but there is low production in key areas of sustainable development. Social media attention highlights topics like health, equality, and energy. Open access shows a strong correlation with online attention, emphasizing its importance in amplifying research impact. Although closed research also receives online attention, especially from academics. Greater focus is needed on inclusive publishing strategies and social media dissemination to address global challenges.</span></p>
