An important component of the McMurdo Dry Valleys Long Term Ecological Research (MCM LTER) project is monitoring spatial and temporal patterns in the biological composition of perennially ice-covered lakes in Antarctica’s McMurdo Dry Valleys. This data package contributes to this core research area by providing a curated table linking 16S rRNA gene sequence accession numbers archived in NCBI to MCM LTER limnological sampling campaigns conducted at specific depths along the water column of Lakes Fryxell, Hoare, Bonney, and Miers. These data enable integration of microbial community data with co-collected biological, chemical, and physical measurements.

Yearly pageviews of English Wikipedia articles with potential links to green open access scholarly articles
<p>Number of visits in 2019 for a sample of 23462 English Wikipedia articles which contain references to academic sources which have a green open access copy available but not yet used. The consultation statistics were retrieved from the Wikimedia pageviews API using the Python client (script also included). The sample was selected among articles which in April 2020 had at least one citation of an academic paper (using the "cite journal" template) for which OAbot (through Unpaywall data) had found a green open access URL to add (gratis open access, not necessarily libre open access). Data shows that the top 1 % most visited articles received 30 % of the visits: over 500 million in the year, corresponding to 1 million potential citation link clicks to distribute across all references assuming a 0.2 % click-through rate per Piccardi et al. (2020).</p>
Vanished open access journals
<p>This dataset provides data on 174 scholarly journals that were identified to have vanished without having a currently active website for providing access to their content. Also included is a list of 881 OA journals which were identified as being inactive. Licenze Open Access: perché non c'è più bisogno di discuterne?
<p><strong>Perché non c’è più bisogno di discutere su quali siano le licenze più adeguate per fare Open Access?</strong><br> </p> <p>Per un semplice motivo: perché la Dichiarazione di Berlino del 2003 è così chiara su quell’aspetto che non ha più senso continuare a chiedersi quali siano le licenze adeguate per fare Open Access. La Dichiarazione di Berlino è il documento manifesto in cui fin dal 2003 sono cristallizzati i principi cardine dell'Open Access e che è stato riconosciuto e sottoscritto da quasi tutti gli atenei e le istituzioni di ricerca del pianeta.</p> <p>Chiunque sostiene che ci sia bisogno di ulteriore dibattito o non ha letto/compreso quel documento o ha interesse a diffondere incertezza.</p> <p>Potremmo fermarci qui e rimandare alla lettura della Dichiarazione di Berlino. Ma, per chiarire la questione in modo definitivo, vediamo puntualmente che cosa dice questo documento in merito alla gestione del diritto d'autore.</p> <p>La Dichiarazione di Berlino pone due semplici requisiti per rientrare nella definizione di Open Access. Il primo dei due requisiti è proprio dedicato alla gestione dei diritti d'autore e letteralmente recita:</p> <p>L’autore e il detentore dei diritti del contenuto devono garantire a tutti gli utilizzatori il diritto d’accesso gratuito, irrevocabile ed universale e l’autorizzazione a riprodurlo, utilizzarlo, distribuirlo, trasmetterlo e mostrarlo pubblicamente e a produrre e distribuire lavori da esso derivati, mantenendo comunque l’attribuzione della paternità intellettuale originaria.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Le licenze per fare Open Access</strong><br> </p> <p>Di conseguenza, usando come riferimento il set di licenze offerto da Creative Commons, le licenze coerenti con la definizione di Open Access sono:</p> <ul> <li><em>CC Zero</em> [che tecnicamente non è una licenza, ma un atto di rinuncia ai diritti]</li> <li><em>Attribution</em></li> <li><em>Attribution – Share Alike</em></li> </ul> <p>Le altre licenze (<em>Attribution – No Derivatives</em>; <em>Attribution – Non commercial</em>; <em>Attribution – Non commercial – Share Alike</em>; <em>Attribution – Non commercial – No Derivatives</em>) escono dal solco dell'Open Access perché impongono restrizioni eccessive. </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Le principali obiezioni a questo approccio (e le relative smentite)</strong><br> </p> <p><em> 0) "Stai semplificando troppo. L'Open Access è un tema più complesso!"</em><br> Indubbiamente sto semplificando [forse perché questo è un post divulgativo e non un articolo scintifico o un manuale. Per un testo più articolato rimando al mio capitolo all'interno del libro "Fare Open Access" <a href="https://aliprandi.org/books/fare-openaccess/">disponibile liberamente qui</a>]. Ad ogni modo, le cose stanno davvero così; il requisito 1 della dichiarazione di Berlino è molto chiaro e cristallino; gli aspetti dell'Open Access che meritano ulteriore dibattito sono altri (e sono per lo più legati all'interpretazione del requisito 2).</p> <p><em> 1) Ma il sito DOAJ.org indicizza anche le riviste con licenze diverse da quelle tre...</em><br> Certo, infatti i responsabili del progetto DOAJ.org sbagliano; l'ho detto in varie occasioni e lo ribadisco. Capisco l'intento di indicizzare tutte le riviste scientifiche rilasciate con licenze open; ma se si mette tutto in un unico calderone (nel quale, pericolosamente, ci sono poi anche alcune licenze scritte dalle case editrici e non riconosciute come open da organizzazioni indipendenti) si rischia di creare confusione negli utenti. Basterebbe indicare le riviste sotto licenza CC BY e CC BY-SA con un colore diverso rispetto alle altre, o anche distinguerle con un asterisco che rimanda a una nota in cui si precisa che solo quelle sono coerenti con la definizione di Open Access.</p> <p><em> 2) Ma l’editore XY ha una sezione “open access” sul suo sito e da lì lascia scaricare i PDF di libri e articoli senza alcuna licenza…</em><br> Certo; ma quello è marketing, non è vero Open Access. Purtroppo c'è un utilizzo strumentale del termine "open access"; spesso viene artatamente e impropriamente associato al concetto di "gratuito" per cercare di attirare traffico sul proprio sito web o, anche qui, per confondere le acque e diffondere incertezza.</p>

Research Data of the 2014 Census of Open Access Repositories in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
<p>The "2014 Census of Open Access Repositories in Germany, Austria and Switzerland” (2014 Census) is a study on the green open access landscape conducted in the course of a project seminar at the Berlin School of Library and Information Science (BSLIS) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The 2014 Census not only succeeds the "2012 Census of Open Access Repositories in Germany"[1] but enhances it by adding an online survey to the qualitative analysis of the open access repository websites and the automatic validation of its metadata. Like in 2012 the 2014 Census gives insights into the development of open access repositories and current trends in repository design being of substantial use to open access repository operators.</p> <p>This 2014 Census data set represents the data collected in three different ways:</p> <ul> <li>qualitative analysis of the open access repository websites</li> <li>automatic validation of the metadata via OAI-PMH using the DINI-Validator [2] </li> <li>online survey of repository operators</li> </ul> <p>As in 2012 [3] the data set is provided in XLSX as well as in CSV format. The columns represent the criteria and the rows represent the analyzed open access repositories. In the XLSX file the header row gives the definition of each criterion in English and German. ROARMAP Open Access Policy data - Country list
<p>This data is a sub set of a dump from ROARMAP [http://roarmap.eprints.org/] taken on 24th August 2014.</p> <p>ROARMAP is the Registry of Open Access Repository Mandates and Policies, a searchable international registry charting the growth of open access mandates and policies adopted by universities, research institutions and research funders that require or request their researchers to provide open access to their peer-reviewed research article output by depositing it in an open access repository.</p> <p>Number of Open Access policies and a ranking is shown for each country.</p> <p>The data is being used for a series of data visualisations [http://pasteur4oa-dataviz.okfn.org/] for the PATEUR4OA Project [http://pasteur4oa.eu/].</p> <p> </p> <p>PASTEUR4OA (Open Access Policy Alignment Strategies for European Union Research) aims to support the European Commission’s Recommendation to Member States of July 2012 that they develop and implement policies to ensure Open Access to all outputs from publicly-funded research. </p> <p>PASTEUR4OA will help develop and/or reinforce open access strategies and policies at the national level and facilitate their coordination among all Member States. Numbers and shares of Open Access Journals in Sociology charging publication fees (article processing charges APCs)
<p>On the eleventh of June 2014 the Directory of Open Access Journals DOAJ listed 109 sociology journals. For these journals the information on publication charges was wrong in more than 10 % of the cases. Focusing on the eleven journals that - according to the DOAJ - used (always or conditionally) APCs the situation is even worse: 10 of these journals (90,9 %) were categorized wrongly.</p> <p>In fact only three out of these 109 journals (2,75 %) are charging their authors. The files contain corrected information for the 109 journals including the sums charged by the journals.</p>

Data of the Open Access Repository Ranking 2015
<p>The Open Access Repository Ranking 2015 ranks open access repositories from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Data for the 2015 ranking was partly submitted by the respective repository managers, and partly automatically validated via the OAI interfaces. The OARR team reviewed all submissions assuring the quality and validity.<br> The ranking is based on an open and transparent metric that was developed in accordance with the open access community. This metric is a synthesis of different schemes and studies that surveyed and describe open access repositories.<br> Data includes the 2015 scores and descriptive information on the repositories as well as the 2015 metric.</p>

National Open Access Monitor, Ireland - Research product metadata
<p>This dataset contains the foundational data for the National Open Access Monitor under an open license. OpenAIRE will routinely provide monthly data dumps to Zenodo, encompassing a comprehensive set of data and indicators related to the Open Access Monitor. This collaborative effort ensures accessibility and openness in sharing the data, promoting transparency and facilitating its use for research and analysis purposes.<br>The dataset comprises of the metadata of the research products metadata stored in the parquet format. The file contains two columns ("id", "xml"), the first of which is the OpenAIRE identifier of the research product and the the second the xml representation of the metadata. K1702 - Kura Clover (Trifolium ambiguum) USDA Accession Image Dataset
<p><strong>Images</strong></p> <p>This dataset consists of 1135 images of Kura clover (Trifolium ambiguum) USDA accessions grown at The Land Institute in Salina, Kansas over the 2017 growing season. Each image contains a single Kura clover plant framed by a 1/2" PVC sampling quadrat with internal dimensions of 16"x16" (internal area of 0.165 m2). Kura clover plots were hand weeded to remove all other vegetation except Kura clover. Some images may contain dead clover accessions that are either brown and dried up, or missing entirely. The images were acquired with a Canon EOS Rebel T6 DSLR camera under the following settings:</p> <ul> <li>ISO: 200</li> <li>Exposure: Auto</li> <li>Focal Length: Variable (33-40mm)</li> <li>Format: JPEG</li> <li>Size: 5184x3456</li> <li>Metering Mode: Multi-segment</li> </ul> <p>Images were acquired on two different dates: 2017-06-08 and 2017-07-03 and were named using the following convention "<IMG_ID>_<yyyymmdd>.jpg". All image can be found in processed/images folder. No image preprocessing was performed.</p> <p><strong>Annotations</strong></p> <p>The annotations consist of segmentation masks and bounding boxes. Each segmentation mask is saved as a png image and named using the convention "IMG_ID>_<yyyymmdd>.png". The segmentation class labels ('segmentation_class_map.json') are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>0: 'soil' background class containing all soil and non-target materials</li> <li>1: 'quadrat'</li> <li>2: 'clover'</li> </ul> <p>We drew bounding boxes for the quadrat, each quadrat corner, and the entire clover plant. The class labels ('obj_det_class_map.json') are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>1: 'clover'</li> <li>2: 'quadrat'</li> <li>3: 'quadrat_corner'</li> </ul> <p>Bounding boxes are in (xmin, ymin, xmax, ymax) format and can be found in 'bboxes.csv'.</p> <p>All images are annotated using Labelbox software. Masks were generated by point prompts using Meta's Segment Anything model (SAM). The point prompts used to generate the masks can be found in 'SAM_points.csv'</p> <p>Additionally, some kura clover plants died or are not present in the plots where they were planted. We included the file 'plant_status.csv' to indicate which images include a living plant or a dead one.</p> <p><strong>Train/Val/Test Split</strong></p> <p>All 1035 images were randomly split with an 80/20 split on 1000 of the images (n=880, n=220) with the final 35 images reserved for the test holdout set. The file 'data_split.csv' holds the split class for each image.</p> <p>This dataset is released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license which allows redistribution and re-use of the data herein as long as all authors are appropriately credited.</p>
pofatu/pofatu-data: Pofatu, a curated and open-access database for geochemical sourcing of archaeological materials
<p>Geochemical fingerprinting of artefacts and sources has proven to be the most effective way to use material evidence in order to reconstruct strategies of raw material procurement, exchange systems, and mobility patterns among past societies. In order to facilitate access to this growing body of data and to promote comparability and reproducibility in provenance studies, we designed Pofatu, the first online and open-access database presenting geochemical compositions and contextual information for archaeological sources and artefacts.</p> <p>The data repository includes a compilation of geochemical data and supporting analytical metadata, as well as the archaeological provenance and context for each sample. All information on Samples related to sources and artefacts can be accessed on this platform or downloaded from Zenodo or GitHub.</p> <p>While most prehistoric quarries and surface procurement sources used in the past have yet to be identified, provenance studies must also integrate wide and reliable geological data. For this reason, we advise Pofatu users to also consult other open-access repositories focusing specifically on geological samples, such as GeoRoc and EarthChem.</p>
National Open Access Monitor Survey: Organisational Identity: Responses Dataset
<p>This dataset contains the response data from the 'National Open Access Monitor Survey: Organisational Identity which was carried out between 9th October and 9th November 2023 under the National Open Access Monitor Project: <a href="https://zenodo.org/doi/10.5281/zenodo.8420404">https://zenodo.org/doi/10.5281/zenodo.8420404</a></p><p><strong>This survey was run to:</strong></p><ul><li>compile a complete list of Irish research performing organisations (RPO) and research funding organisations (RFO) to be represented by the National Open Access Monitor.</li><li>ensure each organisation/entity is categorised correctly as an RPO or an RFO (or both), as applicable.</li><li>identify if an organisation/entity is publicly funded.</li><li>identify formally affiliated organisations/entities where <strong>all </strong>research outputs of one organisation/entity should also be included in the research outputs of another organisation/entity.</li><li>capture the persistent identifiers for RPOs, RFOs and publishers, to enable identification of relevant research outputs for the National Open Access Monitor.</li></ul><p><strong>To note: </strong></p><ul><li>Respondents' email addresses have been redacted.</li><li>Responses have been pseudonymised to the level of stakeholder-group e.g. Contributor A, Research Funding Organisation A, where requested by the participant in the participant consent form: <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7589770">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7589770</a>.</li><li>Respondents were notified of the limits of pseudonymisation for this survey. Due to the nature and purpose of this survey on Organisational Identity, the identity of the organisation/entity could not be pseudonymised. These responses are not included in these files.</li><li>Survey respondents were enabled to update their submissions. One-to-one follow-up and support was provided to clarify to respondents that questions 12 and 13 of the survey intended to identify where <strong>all </strong>research outputs of one organisation/entity should appear on that organisation's/entities' own RPO or RFO dashboard within the National Open Access Monitor, and <strong>also </strong>on the dashboard of another organisation/entity. </li><li>Survey respondents were notified in the introduction section to the "affiliated organisations/entities" section that "<strong>only where all entities agree there is a formal relationship in place</strong> that should be reflected in the Monitor will the link be implemented". Therefore, for the National Open Access Monitor project, only where both parties have asserted that <strong>all </strong>research outputs of one organisation/entity should also appear on the dashboard of another organisation/entity, will it be considered validated and implemented. </li><li>The geographic scope of the National Open Access Monitor Project is the Republic of Ireland. Where respondent's RPO or RFO organisations/entities are based outside the Republic of Ireland, or where respondents stated affiliations with overseas organisations/entities, they will not be actioned or implemented.
