Automated audio recording as a means of surveying Tinamous (Tinamidae) in the Peruvian Amazon
<p>The use of machine learning technologies to process large quantities of remotely-collected audio data is a powerful emerging research tool in ecology and conservation.</p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>We applied these methods to a field study of tinamou (Tinamidae) biology in Madre de Dios, Peru, a region expected to have high levels of interspecies competition and niche partitioning as a result of high tinamou alpha diversity. We used autonomous recording units to gather environmental audio over a period of several months at lowland rainforest sites in the Los Amigos Conservation Concession and developed a Convolutional Neural Network-based data processing pipeline to detect tinamou vocalizations in the dataset. </span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>The classified acoustic event data are comparable to similar metrics derived from an ongoing camera trapping survey at the same site, and it should be possible to combine the two datasets for future explorations of the target species' niche space parameters.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Here we provide an overview of the methodology used in the data collection and processing pipeline, offer general suggestions for processing large amounts of environmental audio data, and demonstrate how data collected in this manner can be used to answer questions about bird biology.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>

Recordings of classical music (voice with piano, piano solo) with smartphones and professional audio equipment
<p>To investigate differences of performance rating and perception of classical music demo videos, two demos were recorded with six devices (four Smartphones with main cam video function, one field recorder, one professional setup). Video and Audio were separated for each file, only the audio files were used in the study and are thus presented here. The music of the voice demo is from the genres of romantic lied and romantic and modern opera, the piano solo music was composed in the 20th century.</p> <p>The documentation follows the recommendations of the German Society for Acoustics (DEGA), the information is as following:</p> <p>A 3D model of the recording situation.<br>The audio files, normalised (as used in the corresponding study) and with original level.<br>Geometric measurements of room dimensions.<br>Pictures of the recording.<br>A list of the equipment and recording system.<br>Render statistics (provided by the DAW used, Reaper).<br>Scores of two of the three pieces.<br>A Takelist.</p>
Filming the sound: Anomaly Detection on Audio Tape Recordings using Computer Vision Algorithms
<p>This repository makes available the dataset related to the paper:</p> <p>Zafer Çınar, Alessandro Russo, Matteo Spanio, Niccolò Pretto, and Sergio Canazza, <em>Filming the Sound: Anomaly Detection on Audio Tape Recordings using Computer Vision Algorithms</em>, IAI4CH, Bozen, 2024.</p> <p>The dataset and the experiment are described in the publication above.</p> <p>This repository contains two main directories (<strong>bold</strong> indicates directory names):</p> <ul> <li><strong>video samples</strong>: the actual videos used in the paper's experiment. This folder contains four subdirectories - 3.75 ips, 7.5 ips, 15 ips, and 30 ips - each representing a different playback speed (in inches per second). Within each subdirectory are several MP4 files, recorded on an A810 Studer open reel recorder, documenting the playback of magnetic audio tapes. The files follow the naming convention “Xips (Y).mp4,” where <em>X</em> represents the tape playback speed and <em>Y</em> is a serial number identifier for each video.</li> <li><strong>irregularities</strong>: the metadata for each video with timestamp and type of irregularity. The folder includes four CSV files - 3.75.csv, 7.5.csv, 15.csv, and 30.csv - corresponding to the playback speeds of the video samples. Each CSV file provides handmade annotations for its respective videos, with three columns: <ul> <li><em>video_id</em>: name of the video file in the format “Xips (Y).mp4,” where <em>X</em> is the tape speed and <em>Y</em> is the ID number.</li> <li><em>time_label</em>: timestamp indicating the irregularity, formatted as HH:MM:SS.mls.</li> <li><em>irregularity_type</em>: category of the detected anomaly, which may be one of the following: “splice,” “shadow,” “end-of-tape,” or “annotation.”</li> </ul> </li> </ul>

Audio recordings of COVID-19 positive individuals from the prospective Predi-COVID cohort study with their symptomatic status
<p>We uploaded 1775 audio recordings originating from 272 distinct participants in the prospective Predi-COVID cohort study recruited between May 2020 and May 2021. The audios have been converted from their original format into WAV files. The audio name structure integrates the participant ID, the recording date and time of the audio recording, the symptomatic status (1: symptomatic, 0: asymptomatic) and the type of original format (3gp or m4a) as such:</p> <p>predi-covid_{participant}_{recording date and time}_{symptomatic status}.{original format}.wav</p>
