KD040-002013 - Castledermot Hogback Burial Stone
The only recorded Viking hogback burial stone in Ireland. This survey has revealed previously unseen details. Hogback Tombs are a Scandinavian style tomb. The style is more common in North ngland and Scotland, and dates to c. 10th century AD. Lang suggests that the style of the Castledermot Hogback, reflects a connection between Ireland and 'Norse-Irish' settlments in Cumberland and Yorkshire. While the Castledermot Hogback, is an outlier in terms of location, it fits within the style of tombs in these regions. Lang notes that the stone mason was either working from direction of a parton, or design guide. The christian iconography is in an Irish style, and suggests a 'patron or designer [who] was either a Scandinavina colonist [who spent time in Yorkshire or Cumberland] or at least open to Viking Sytle'. This model shows the upper part of grave 40 at the burial ground at Bådstorp outside Norrkoping, Sweden. The archaeological excavation was carried out in the autumn of 2019 and the material is undergoing analysis. The burial ground consisted over 130 graves from the Vendel period and the Viking Age. The Devil's Den neolithic burial chamber
The Devil's Den or Devil's Den is a dolmen burial chamber on Fyfield Hill near Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. The chamber is part of a neolithic passage grave on Fyfield Down. Two standing stones, a capstone and two fallen stones are all that remain of what was the entrance to a long mound, described in the 1920s as being around 230 ft long. The capstone is believed to weigh 17 tons. The burial chamber was reconstructed in 1921. Cup-marked stone, Tregiffian burial chamber, RCM
This cup-marked stone was moved from the site at Tregiffian for safe-keeping and display at the [Royal Cornwall Museum](https://www.royalcornwallmuseum.org.uk), Truro. There are potentially as many as 47 cup marks on this stone. Some of the larger 'jellybean' depressions appear to have started out as two separate cup marks which have been joined together. Slight depressions of the original cup marks can still be seen on some of them. Whether these represent re-working of existing cup marks, or were simply a method for creating the jellybean shape, is difficult to tell. Jätinhaudanmaa burial cairns, Laihia, Finland
Four bronze age (from 1500 BC to 500 BC in Finland) burial cairns in Jätinhaudanmaa site in Laihia, Finland. The whole site seven burial cairns. The biggest one was excavated by J.R. Aspelin at 1869. It included a "tower" shaped structure inside in the middle that was made from stones. Another one was excavated by A. Varelius at 1846. It contained bronze razor. The cairn was left open after the excavation.
