Profiled Likelihoods from A Search for Dark Matter Lines at the Galactic Center with 14 Years of Fermi Data

<p>This repository contains the profiled likelihood ratios&nbsp;calculated in &quot;A Search for Dark Matter Lines at the Galactic Center with 14 Years of Fermi Data&quot; [arXiv:2212.07435] for the unmasked analysis. Profiled likelihood ratios are provided for each of the 30 annuli considered in the work&nbsp;joined over the top three quartiles of data in energy dispersion.</p> <p>The data are provided in an hdf5 archive containing 532 datasets. Line rest energies in units of GeV are provided in the `Line_Energy` dataset, which is a length 531 1-D array. Each of the remaining 531 datasets contains a 3-D array of shape (30, 2, 1001) corresponding to the profiled likelihood ratio as a function of line intensity, in units of counts/cm<sup>2</sup>/s/sr. Twin Supersymmetric Dark Matter in Light of the First LZ Results

<p>We review the status of dark matter (DM) candidates in supersymmetric Twin Higgs models in light of the first results of the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment. We found that, for twin bino-dominated DM, the new results strengthened the lower bound on the higgsino mass. However, a large part of the parameter space consistent with natural electroweak symmetry breaking is still allowed. In the case of twin-stau DM, the new results imply that, if the thermal abundance of the twin-stau LSP fits the observed density of DM, the twin stau cannot have a large left-handed component anymore.</p>

Charged Dark Matter in Supersymmetric Twin Higgs models

<p>Supersymmetric Twin Higgs models ameliorate the fine-tuning of the electroweak scale originating from the heavy scalar top partners required by the non-discovery of them at the Large Hadron Collider. If the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle resides in the twin sector, it may play the role of dark matter even if it is charged under twin gauge interactions. We show that the twin stau is a viable candidate for charged dark matter, even if the twin electromagnetic gauge symmetry is unbroken, with thermal relic abundance that naturally matches the observed dark matter abundance. A wide parameter space satisfies all the experimental constraints including those on dark matter self-interactions. Twin stau dark matter can be observed in future direct detection experiments such as LUX-ZEPLIN. The stau has a mass in the range of 300-500 GeV, and in the minimal scenario, has a decay length long enough to be observed as a disappearing track or a long-lived particle at the Large Hadron Collider.</p>

Simulations of magnetized quark nugget dark matter in three-layer witness plate

<p>Magnetized quark nuggets (MQNs) are a recently proposed dark-matter candidate consistent with the Standard Model and with Tatsumi's theory of quark-nugget cores in magnetars. Previous publications have covered their formation in the early universe, aggregation into a broad mass distribution before they can decay by the weak force, interaction with normal matter through their magnetopause, and first observation consistent MQNs: a nearly tangential impact limiting their surface-magnetic-field parameter <i>B<sub>o</sub></i> from Tatsumi's ~10<sup>12+/-1</sup> T to 1.65 × 10<sup>12</sup> T +/- 21%. The MQN mass distribution and interaction cross section depend strongly on <i>B<sub>o</sub></i>. Their magnetopause is much larger than their geometric dimensions and can cause sufficient energy deposition to form non-meteorite craters, which are reported approximately annually. We report computer simulations of the MQN energy deposition in water-saturated peat, soft-sediments, and granite and report results from excavating such a crater. Five points of agreement between observations and hydrodynamic simulations of an MQN impact support this seocnd observation consistent with MQN dark matter and suggest a method for qualifying additional MQN events. The results also redundantly constrain <i>B<sub>o</sub></i> to ≥ 4 × 10<sup>11</sup> T.</p> <p> </p> <p>This dataset provides movies of CTH hydrodynamic simulations of a magnetized quark nugget dark matter transiting a three-layer witness plate of peat bog, soft sediments, and granite for energy/length of 1, 3, 9, 27, 81, and 243 MJ/m. The simulations, movies, and photos are explained in the paper titled <em>Results of search for magnetized quark-nugget dark matter from radial impacts on Earth</em> by J. Pace VanDevender, Robert G. Schmitt, Niall McGinley, Aaron P. VanDevender, Peter Wilson, Deborah Dixon, Helen Auer, and Jacquelyn McRae. The paper has been submitted for publication in the open-source journal Universe.</p>

Data for: Dark matters – contrasting responses of stream biofilm to browning and loss of riparian shading

<p><span>Concentrations of terrestrial-derived dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in freshwater ecosystems have increased consistently, causing freshwater browning. The mechanisms behind browning are complex, but in forestry-intensive regions browning is accelerated by land drainage. Forestry actions in streamside riparian forests alter canopy shading, which together with browning is expected to exert a complex and largely unpredictable control over key ecosystem functions. We conducted a stream mesocosm experiment with three levels of browning (ambient vs. moderate vs. high, with 2.7 and 5.5-fold increase, respectively, in absorbance) crossed with two levels of riparian shading (70% light reduction vs. open canopy) to explore the individual and combined effects of browning and loss of shading on the quantity (algal biomass) and nutritional quality (polyunsaturated fatty acid and sterol content) of the periphytic biofilm. We also conducted a field survey of differently colored (4.7 to 26.2 mg DOC L<sup>-1</sup>) streams to provide a 'reality check' for our experimental findings. Browning reduced greatly the algal biomass, suppressed the availability of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and sterols, but increased the availability of terrestrial-derived long-chain saturated fatty acids (LSAFA). In contrast, loss of shading increased primary productivity, which resulted in elevated sterol and EPA content of the biofilm. The field survey largely repeated the same pattern: biofilm nutritional quality decreased significantly with increasing DOC, as indicated particularly by a decrease of the </span><span><em><span><span>w</span></span></em>-3:</span><span><em><span><span>w</span></span></em>-6 ratio and increase in LSAFA content. Algal biomass, in contrast, was mainly controlled by dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentration, while DOC concentration was of minor importance. The ongoing browning process is inducing a dramatic reduction in the nutritional quality of the stream biofilm. Such degradation of the major high-quality food source available for stream consumers may reduce the trophic transfer efficiency in stream ecosystems, potentially extending across the stream-forest ecotone. </span></p>

Exploring the halo occupation of AGN using dark-matter cosmological simulations

<p>A semi-empirical model is presented that describes the distribution of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) on the cosmic web. It populates dark-matter halos in N-body simulations (MultiDark) with galaxy stellar masses using empirical relations based on abundance matching techniques, and then paints accretion events on these galaxies using state-of-the-art measurements of the AGN occupation of galaxies. The explicit assumption is that the large-scale distribution of AGN is independent of the physics of black-hole fueling. The model is shown to be consistent with current measurements of the two-point correlation function of AGN samples. It is then used to make inferences on the halo occupation of the AGN population. Mock AGN are found in halos with a broad distribution of masses with a mode of $\approx 10^{12}\,h^{-1} \, M_{\odot}$ and a tail extending to cluster-size halos. The clustering properties of the model AGN depend only weakly on accretion luminosity and redshift. The fraction of satellite AGN in the model increases steeply toward more massive halos, in contrast with some recent observational results. This discrepancy, if confirmed, could point to&nbsp; a dependence of the halo occupation of AGN on the physics of black-hole fueling.</p>
