Data set published in the IEEE TCAD article "Custom Multi-Cache Architectures for Heap-Manipulating Programs"

This data set contains the results presented in the paper "Custom Multi-Cache Architectures for Heap-Manipulating Programs", published in the IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems (TCAD) in 2016.

The data set consists of two parts, a Microsoft Excel file ('FPGA_implementation_results.xlsx') and a Matlab script ('plot_cache_performance.m', in combination with measurement results in an ascii file).

The Excel file contains
- the FPGA resource utilisation,
- execution time measurements,
- hit rate measurement of the multi-cache system,
- and power measurements

of different FPGA designs with different on-chip cache configurations. The resource utilisation is split into FPGA slices, LUTs, FlipFlops, DSP slices and block RAMs. Results in this file can be found in Table I-IV in the paper. Please refer to the paper for more information or email f.winterstein12@imperial.ac.uk.

The Matlab script loads a data file ('cache_performance_N16384_L1') containing the hit rate measurements for different cache sizes of two direct-mapped cache with 64bit line width. The script produces a 3D 'skyscraper' plot, i.e. a grid of coloured bars. Each bar corresponds to the hit rate measured at the particular cache size configuration. The plot is saved in the file 'surf.pdf'. The script was used to produce Figure 4 of the paper. Please refer to the paper for more information or email f.winterstein12@imperial.ac.uk.

In addition to this description, we include an author copy of the paper. Note that this is not the official version of the paper. Please cite the original IEEE TCAD article if you use the data.

Landscape composition and life-history traits influence bat movement and space use: analysis of 30 years of published telemetry data

Using temperate bats, a group of particular conservation concern, we investigated how morphological traits, habitat specialization and environmental variables affect home range sizes and daily foraging movements, using a compilation of 30 years of published bat telemetry data in Northern America and Europe for the period 1988 – 2016.

We compiled data on home range size and mean daily distance between roosts and foraging areas at both colony and individual levels from 166 studies of 3,129 radiotracked individuals of 49 bat species. We calculated multi-scale habitat composition and configuration in the surrounding landscapes of all studied roosts. Using mixed models, we examined the effects of habitat availability and spatial arrangement on bat movements, while accounting for body mass, aspect ratio, wing loading and habitat specialization.

We found a significant effect of landscape composition on home range size and mean daily distance at both colony and individual levels. On average, home ranges were up to 42% smaller in the most habitat-diversified landscapes while mean daily distances were up to 30% shorter in the most forested landscapes. Bat home range size significantly increased with body mass, wing aspect ratio and wing loading, and decreased with habitat specialization.

Data to "Evidence for the evolution of eusociality in stem ants and a systematic revision of †Gerontoformica (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)" published in Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society

These are the µCT Datasets used in the study "Evidence for the evolution of eusociality in stem ants and a systematic revision of †Gerontoformica (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)" published in the Zoological Journal of the linnean society.
In the study, an amber piece containing 4 specimens of the stem ant genus †Gerontoformica was investigated, one of them being a pupa belonging to †G. gracilis (CASENT0741231), one adult belonging to †G. gracilis (CASENT0741232) and two adults of the newly described species †G. sternorhabda (CASENT0741233 and CASENT0741234). The adult specimen of †G. gracilis (CASENT0741232) had exception internal preservation, so higher magnification scans for anatomical details were performed. The dataset includes full body scans of all of these individuals, adjusted datasets in which the adult specimens were segmented out of the amber matrix (used for the volume renderings in the article) and the two head focused scans of †G. gracilis (CASENT0741232). The scanning parameters can be taken from the uploaded Scans Metadata Excel file, which is also part of the supplementary material of the related article. The two adult scans of †G. sternorhabda (CASENT0741233 and CASENT0741234) are in DICOM file format, all other data are in TIFF image format.
