Towards automated early detection of risks for a CO2 plume containment from permanent seismic monitoring data

This storage contains the training data for neural networks proposed in a manuscript 'Towards automated early detection of risks for a CO2 plume containment from permanent seismic monitoring data'. The data consists of output from reservoir simulations of a small-scale CO2 injection at CO2CRC Otway Project Stage 2C (Victoria, Australia). The output is presented as a set of images, where each pixel in a portable network graphics is a plume thickness for a particular injection scenario at a particular day after the injection has commenced. The format is unsigned integer 16-bit. The data set contains images of two major types:

1. REALISTIC: plumes are obtained from reservoir simulations in a complex geological model that was calibrated on an extensive set of geophysical surveys. File naming follows this convention 'plume_thick_real_scenario_%S_day_%N.png', where %S represents a string that encodes the injection scenario name and %N denotes day number after the injection started.

2. VANILLA: plumes are obtained from reservoir simulations in a simple model of a reservoir that reflects only few typical features of the Otway injection interval. 'plume_thick_vanilla_scenario_%S_day_%N.png', where %S represents a string that encodes the injection scenario name and %N denotes day number after the injection started.

Data from: Early detection of chronic hepatitis B and risk factor assessment in Turkish migrants, Middle Limburg, Belgium.

Background Turkey is an intermediate hepatitis B virus (HBV) endemic country. However, prevalence among Turkish migrants in Belgium is unknown, especially in those born in Belgium with a foreign-born parent, i.e. second-generation migrants (SGM). Aims To evaluate the prevalence of HBV infection and associated risk factors in Turkish first-generation migrants (FGM), i.e. foreign-born, and SGM. Methods Between September 2017 and May 2019, free outreach testing for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis B core antibodies (anti-HBc), and antibodies against HBsAg was offered to Turkish migrants in Middle-Limburg, Belgium. Face-to-face questionnaire assessed HBV risk factors. HBsAg positive patients were referred and followed up. Turkish SGM were stratified into birth cohort born before and after 1987, since those born after 1987 should be covered by the universal infant vaccination program. Results A total of 1,081/1,113 (97.1%) Turkish did go for HBV testing. Twenty-six (2.4%) were HBsAg positive; 11/26 were unaware of their status and 10/11 were successfully referred. HBsAg prevalence was 3.0% in FGM and 1.5% in SGM, p = .070. Only one out of seven HBsAg positive SGM was born after 1987. In the multiple generalized estimating equations model, the most important risk factors for anti-HBc positivity were male gender ( p = .021), older age ( p < .001), FGM ( p < .001), low educational level of the mother ( p = .003), HBV infected mother ( p = .008), HBV infected siblings ( p = .002), HBV infected other family member ( p = .004), gynaecological examination in Turkey or unsafe male circumcision ( p = .032) and dental treatment in Turkey ( p = .049). Conclusion Outreach testing was well-accepted and referral to specialist care was generally successful. National HBV screening should be implemented in the Turkish FGM population and might be considered in SGM not covered by primary prevention strategies.

Data from: Sticky traps as an early detection tool for crawlers of Adelges tsugae (Hemiptera: Adelgidae)

We developed an approach using sticky trap arrays as an early detection tool for populations of first instar nymphs of the hemlock woolly adelgid, Adelges tsugae (Annand), a pest of hemlocks, Tsuga spp., in North America. We considered the detection rate of at least one nymph from trapping arrays consisting of one to six sticky panels, where we varied both the surface area of each trap that we assessed and the length of the trapping duration. We also estimated the time needed to set up, service and assess groups of traps and attempted to relate capture of nymphs on traps to incidence and abundance of A. tsugae in the canopy above the traps. Arrays consisting of two traps provided a detection rate of 75% when 87.5% of the surface area of each trap was assessed, a process that required 38 min per array. The probability of detecting nymphs on traps left in the field for 5 or 6 days was similar to that for traps left for 12 days. The number of nymphs trapped in an array predicted the probability of finding A. tsugae in the canopy but only when all six traps were fully assessed. To reliably detect incipient A. tsugae infestations, we recommend placing arrays of traps at 1 km intervals along the perimeter of a stand during peak activity of first instar sistentes nymphs and servicing these arrays every 5 to 7 days.

Data from: Early detection of cerebrovascular pathology and protective antiviral immunity by MRI

Central nervous system (CNS) infections are a major cause of human morbidity and mortality worldwide. Even patients that survive CNS infections can have lasting neurological dysfunction resulting from immune and pathogen induced pathology. Developing approaches to noninvasively track pathology and immunity in the infected CNS is crucial for patient management and development of new therapeutics. Here, we develop novel MRI-based approaches to monitor virus-specific CD8+ T cells and their relationship to cerebrovascular pathology in the living brain. We studied a relevant murine model in which a neurotropic virus (vesicular stomatitis virus) was introduced intranasally and then entered the brain via olfactory sensory neurons – a route exploited by many pathogens in humans. Using T2*-weighted high-resolution MRI, we identified small cerebral microbleeds as the earliest form of pathology associated with viral entry into the brain. Mechanistically, these microbleeds occurred in the absence of peripheral immune cells and were associated with infection of vascular endothelial cells. We monitored the adaptive response to this infection by developing methods to iron label and track individual virus specific CD8+ T cells by MRI. Transferred antiviral T cells were detected in the brain within a day of infection and were able to reduce cerebral microbleeds. These data demonstrate the utility of MRI in detecting the earliest pathological events in the virally infected CNS as well as the therapeutic potential of antiviral T cells in mitigating this pathology.

Data for "Evaluating disease surveillance strategies for early outbreak detection in contact networks with varying community structure"

New York City contact network data used in the publication “Evaluating disease surveillance strategies for early outbreak detection in contact networks with varying community structure” (LA-UR-23-26868). This contact network comes in the form of a weighted edge list. Each row describes an edge, with the first and second column containing the labels of the nodes connected by the edge, and the third column contains the corresponding weight of the edge. In this network, an edge encodes an interaction between two individuals and the weight describes the duration of the interaction in seconds. In total the edge list describes 6,376,729,847 interactions among 6,813,615 individuals; the first 10 interactions are listed below as an example.

2, 1, 84121
4, 3, 83654.4
5, 3, 79591.4
5, 4, 87642
6, 3, 79853
6, 4, 81604
6, 5, 79146
8, 7, 80604
10, 9, 84259.6
12, 11, 68990.8

This work is approved for public distribution under LA-UR-24-25046.
