Results from national testing programs on the occurrence of chemical contaminants in food and feed - Switzerland

In the framework of Articles 23 and 33 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 EFSA has received from the European Commission a mandate (M-2010-0374) to collect all available data on the occurrence of chemical contaminants in food and feed. These data are used in EFSA’s scientific opinions and reports on contaminants in food and feed.

The presence of unauthorised substances or chemical contaminants in food may pose a risk factor for public health and can cause a negative impact on the quality of food.

Commission Recommendations and Regulations on occurrence monitoring are in place for several contaminants of interest, some of which can be found here below:

Commission Regulation (EU) 625/2017, on the application of food and feed law

Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/931

Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/932

Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/915, on maximum levels for certain contaminants in food and repealing Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006

These datasets contain the results of sampling that was designed according to national testing programs for a variety of contaminants in food and feed, as reported under the Chemical Monitoring Data Collection 2023 split by sampling year (data element ‘sampY’).

More details are available in last year's finalised call for data ‘Call for continuous collection of chemical contaminants occurrence data in food and feed | EFSA (europa.eu)’.

REPORTING AUTHORITIES CONTRIBUTING TO EACH DATA COLLECTION:

OCC-CHEMMON2023 – Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office

Annex B – Occurrence data on TBBPA and TBBPA derivatives in food submitted to EFSA, dietary surveys per country and age group available in the EFSA Comprehensive Database considered in the exposure assessment, and chronic dietary exposure to TBBPA and the contribution of different food groups to the dietary exposure

This Annex contains the occurrence data submitted to EFSA, the dietary surveys per country and age group, and the chronic dietary exposure to PBDEs and the contribution of different food groups to the dietary exposure related to the Update of the risk assessment of TBBPA and its derivatives in food.

Occurrence data on Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids (PAs) in food

The dataset contains data on the occurrence of Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids (PAs) in food products of plant origin, in particular herbal teas and food supplements from different geographic regions in Europe.

A total of 359 samples were collected in years 2014 and 2015 and analysed for the presence of 28 PAs. Samples were collected in supermarkets, retail shops and for a small proportion via internet. The samples comprised 168 teas (including black, green, rooibos, chamomile, peppermint and mixed herbal tea) and 191 food supplements. The analytical method for determination of 1,2-unsaturated PAs is based on liquid chromatography combined with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), which complies with the requirements as described by the Commission regulation No. 401/2006.

The updates in version 2 mainly refer to the analytical methods and the limits of quantification reported for the analysis of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in different food samples, and to some plant extracts for which wrong levels of pyrrolizidine alkaloids were reported by a data provider.

Annex B – Occurrence data on brominated phenols and their derivatives in food submitted to EFSA, dietary surveys per country and age group available in the EFSA Comprehensive Database considered in the exposure assessment, and the detailed results of the chronic dietary exposure assessment to 2,4,6-TBP and the contribution of different food groups to the dietary exposure

This Annex contains the occurrence data submitted to EFSA, the dietary surveys per country and age group, and the detailed results of the chronic dietary exposure assessment to 2,4,6-TBP and the contribution of different food groups to the dietary exposure related to the Update of the risk assessment of brominated phenols and their derivatives in food.

Occurrence data on chlorinated paraffins in feed and food

This Annex is an excel file which presents tables on chlorinated paraffins on occurrence data in food and dietary exposure assessment for humans.

Occurrence data on nickel in food

Nickel_OCC_ZENODO.CSV

Contains the raw (no data cleaning applied to it) occurrence dataset on nickel as extracted from EFSA DWH on 7 February 2020 in food samples presented in the opinion as described in its section 3.2.1. The data is provided in csv format. This dataset is compliant with EFSA SSD model and contains two additional columns documenting issues identified in the cleaning process (column: issue) and the action taken (column: action) to address the issue (e.g. delete record or update values in specific fields).

The link to the catalogues of controlled terminologies can be found under "Related identifiers”.
