Exploring Cellular Dynamics: A Comprehensive Analysis of SH-SY5Y Cell Growth in Variable Polycarbonate Chambers and Comparative Insights with Standard Petri Dishes
<div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <p>The provided illustrations delineate the proliferation of SH-SY5Y cells within polycarbonate chambers with varying diameters, ranging from 3 mm to 50 mm. HBE and HeLaGFP cells serve as points of comparison. Five microscopic images were captured for each culture plate, one at the central location and four at random sites. To trace the growth trajectory across different chamber sizes, images from various culture days underwent manual binarization using GIMP and/or ImageJ software. The resulting binarized images can be accessed in the 'masks' directories within the zipped files, corresponding to the attached images. Comparative analysis of cell growth within these chambers was conducted against growth observed in standard 60 mm Petri dishes from Corning.</p> <p>For monitoring cell growth, we employed an Olympus phase-contrast microscope (CKX53) equipped with a DLT camera (DLT-Cam PRO 1080 HDMI USB).</p> <div> <div> <div> <p>The file nomenclature employed herein serves to represent the primary experimental conditions under consideration. It comprises a hierarchical structure, encompassing various parameters as follows: cellsName_passageNumber_cellSuspension_measurementDayNumber_chamberDiameter_regionNumber_hOfFluids_number.</p> <p>The cellsNames parameter encapsulates the complete nomenclature of the cells utilized in the experiment.</p> <p>The passageNumber parameter represents the passage number and is encoded as 'pNumber.'</p> <p>The cellSuspension parameter is denoted by distinct codes:</p> <ul> <li>'c1' designates a cell suspension with a concentration of 5x10^5 cells/ml.</li> <li>'c3' signifies a cell suspension with a concentration of 1x10^5 cells/ml.</li> <li>'c4' denotes a cell suspension with a concentration of 5x10^4 cells/ml.</li> </ul> <p>The measurementDayNumber parameter is encoded as 'afterXXXdays,' signifying the number of culture days.</p> <p>The 'd' followed by a number (e.g., d6, d8, d10, d12, d15) indicates the diameter of the chamber in millimeters. In a given series of files (e.g., 1day_d6_1, 1day_d6_2, 1day_d6_3, 1day_d6_4, 1day_d6_5), the trailing numeral (_1, _2, _3, _4, _5) corresponds to a photograph captured in a distinct region of the sample.</p> <p>The hOfFluids parameter is employed to signify the height ('h') of the fluid above the cells in the chamber, expressed in millimeters.</p> <div> <div> <div> <p>In adherence to the aforementioned conventions, every file name serves to distinctly characterize a particular collection of experimental conditions. This practice enhances both the comprehensibility and systematic organization of the data. It is noteworthy that the complete set of parameters may not always be provided; for instance, the height of the column of medium is assumed to be 2 mm unless otherwise specified.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <br> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div>

Scale growth data for analysis in Vollset et al. 2021
<p>Scale samples of adult Atlantic salmon were compiled from 180 rivers in Norway, which comprise almost half of all Atlantic salmon rivers in Norway, during 1989-2016. The scales were collected by anglers when sport fishing in the various rivers. The back-calculation of fish length is based on the linear relationship between fish length and the diameter of the fish scale from the centre of the scale to the edge . We have focused on the average growth across four large geographic regions: South-western, south-western, middle-, and north Norway. In total, 52 371 Atlantic salmon were sampled by fishers. For each individual fish, the following data were used: length at capture (cm), back-calculated freshwater growth (cm), back-calculated early marine growth (cm), and smolt year, which is the year they migrated from the rivers as juveniles to the sea. Freshwater growth was defined as the distance from the centre of the scale to the end of the freshwater zone in the scale. Early marine growth, also termed post-smolt growth, was measured as the distance between the end of the freshwater zone and the end of the first winter at sea.</p> <p>Growth estimates from scales may be impacted by the size of the fish when they leave the rivers and enter the sea. To correct for this error, a relative growth estimate can be used where the early marine growth is divided by the freshwater growth of the individual, which we refer to as relative growth. Also, the timing of out-migration will vary by up to two months from north to south in Norway, meaning that the time to grow before winter is shorter for northern populations. Putative monthly growth estimates indicate that growth is limited from November, and we therefore calculate growth from day of out-migration to 31 October. Day of out migration was calculated according to using a model that explains out-migration data based on latitude, longitude, air temperature during winter, and river discharge. The estimated growth is called relative growth per day. </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>

Modulation Analysis of Whistler Mode Sidebands in VLF Triggered Emissions and Implications for Conditions of Nonlinear Growth
<p>A data set from the Siple experiments (Siple Station Antartica) generated on December 8, 1986. A brief explanation of the data:</p> <p>We investigated one particular 35.5 second record that shows the repeated generation of sidebands. This record, occurring on December 8, 1986 during 14:24:29.30 UT -14:24:64.80 UT was triggered by the transmission of a constant amplitude and constant frequency “key down” tone at 2.7 kHz which, remarkably, was observed as 17 individual ∼2 second packets with sidebands and triggered free running emissions in the conjugate region. </p> <p>To open the data, you will need the files - matGetVariable.m AND matGetHeader.m.</p>

Nutritional Value Formation of Silkworm Pupa at Different Growth Stages: Analysis from Multi-omics Perspective
<p>Silkworm pupa (Bombyx mori) is affinal drug and diet in China, which is rich in protein and human essential amino acids. However, it is unclear how the internal nutritional composition changes and the antioxidant situation throughout the transformation of a silkworm pupa into a silkworm moth. In this study, we investigated the samples from four growth stages during silkworm pupal emergence by integrating proteomics and metabolomics. The results of the systematic bioinformatics study revealed that the growth of silkworm pupae considerably altered the ribosome-related genetic expression, cuticle development, and folate metabolism. The partial redox-active amino acid levels and the level of peroxiredoxin 1 expression were consistent with the fact that the total antioxidant capacity was higher in 7- and 10-day-old silkworm pupae. As compared to silkworm pupae, the amounts of fatty acids rose while those of amino acids, peptides, and organic acids dropped. This research also discovered that the altered protein profiles of silkworm pupae were controlled by the differential expression of mTOR signaling proteins (V-ATPase, S6, eIF4E) and ubiquitin mediate proteins (RP-L40e, UBE2L3, UBE2N, SKP1, ELOC). This study provided a new scientific foundation for the development and utilization of edible insect silkworm pupa functional food products.</p>
