Information System for Cycling Navigation for Aveiro, Portugal - Database and ArcGIS Graph

<p>This data was collected within the scope of a master&#39;s thesis in mechanical engineering from University of Aveiro, Portugal. The goal&nbsp;was to develop a information system for cycling navigation for an urban area of the portuguese city of Aveiro. Therefore, data collection was achieved through an instrumented alluminium bicycle equipped with a 1) GNSS Data Logger, 2) wireless heart rate recorder device and 3) video camera. 120 km were covered to collect 8h of video and about 100000 second by second data points, which were analyzed and organized through an 449 link-map built in ArcGIS. Seven different bikeability indicators were built: travel time, energy expenditure, effort distribution, infrastructure performance, safety, comfort and emissions hotspots of two pollutants (CO2 and NOx).</p> <p>The spreadsheet dataset is divided into three sections:</p> <ol> <li>Final Attributes - all the collected and treated data of each link,&nbsp;both used in the indicators&nbsp;and in another set for system&#39; network analysis;</li> <li>Attributes Statistics - reveals some statistics of the weighted final atrributes achieved, such as mean, standard error, standard deviation, range, confidence level, among others;</li> <li>Link Type Statistics - reveals the distribution of the different link-types along the map and the respective average speeds recorded.</li> </ol> <p>In order to associate the FID numbers with the respective links, the developed ArcGIS graph was also made available.&nbsp;</p>

Data from: Use of web-based species occurrence information systems by academics and government professionals

<p>Web-based information systems designed to increase access to species occurrence data for use in research and natural resource decision-making have become more prevalent over the past few decades. The effectiveness of these systems depends on their usability and extent of use by their intended audiences. We conducted an online survey of academics and government professionals in the United States to compare their species occurrence data needs and their perceptions and use of web-based species occurrence information systems. Our results indicate that although views and perceptions held by academics and government professionals about the importance, usefulness, and ease of use of these information systems tend to be similar, there were differences in their use of species occurrence data and web-based species occurrence information systems. The baseline information obtained in this study will help inform future directions for improvements in species occurrence information systems.</p>

Data from: Spatial and temporal patterns of environmental DNA detection to inform sampling protocols in lentic and lotic systems.

<p>The development of efficient sampling protocols for the capture of environmental DNA (eDNA) could greatly help improve accuracy of occupancy monitoring for species that are difficult to detect. However, the process of developing a protocol in situ is complicated for rare species by the fact that animal locations are often unknown. We tested sampling designs in lake and stream systems to determine the most effective eDNA sampling protocols for two rare species: the Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog (<i>Rana sierrae</i>) and the foothill yellow-legged frog (<i>R. boylii</i>). We varied water volume, spatial sampling, and seasonal timing in lakes and streams; in lakes we also tested multiple filter types. We found that filtering 2 L versus 1 L increased the odds of detection in streams 5.42X (95% CI: 3.2-9.19X) in our protocol, from a probability of 0.51 to 0.85 per technical replicate. Lake sample volumes were limited by filter clogging and we found no effect of volume or filter type. Sampling later in the season increased the odds of detection in streams by 1.96X for every 30 days (95% CI: 1.3 - 2.97X) but there was no effect for lakes. Spatial autocorrelation of the quantity of yellow-legged frog eDNA captured in streams between 100 and 200 m, indicating that sampling at close intervals is important.</p>

Project Database and Environmental and Circularity Database containing information on Basajaun Façade System Modules

<p><strong><span>1. INTRODUCTION</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>The Basajaun project aims to build a sustainable joint between rural and urban areas through circular and innovative wood construction value chains. Building fa&ccedil;ade was one of the innovations developed in Basajaun, which were implemented in digital and real scale demo buildings. The main innovation for the fa&ccedil;ade includes the implementation of&nbsp;</span></strong><span> <strong>hybrid bio-based polymers and wood&nbsp;over three technological systems that incorporate increased use of wood-based components and a novel bio-composite material:&nbsp;the frame profiles, the insulation equipment, and the seal system.</strong>&nbsp;<strong>This implies the need to verify the reduction of environmental impact, including the calculation of its Embodied Carbon.</strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p> <p><strong><span><br>2. REPOSITORY</span></strong> </p> <p><strong><span>The Project Database and Environmental and Circularity Database presented here serve as repositories of the specific information related to the Basajaun Fa&ccedil;ade System's life cycles (A1-A5) employed to assess its cradle-to-practical-completion Embodied Carbon. It can also be used to validate the digital Semantic Framework conceived for the facilitation of Fa&ccedil;ade Environmental Assessment beneath the project.<br>The Project Database contains datasets with technical information on each fa&ccedil;ade module analysed. This should be regarded as a complete database for the Basajaun commission job, including&nbsp;(1, 2, and 3) the list&nbsp;of materials, components, and processes related to three different modules (Glazed Vision, Opaque, and Window modules); (4) the fa&ccedil;ade modules&nbsp;assembly off-site;&nbsp;(5)&nbsp;Information on transporting modules to the construction site; and&nbsp;(6) the construction activities related to Opaque and Window modules.<br>The Environmental and Circularity Database is designed to be unique to the production plant and contains&nbsp;the&nbsp;four datasets. The first dataset (1) provides information on the environmental impact of each possible single material, component, or process related to the fa&ccedil;ade module's life cycle (e.g., carbon factors). Assembly off-site (2) and logistics (3) consumption and emissions data are stored separately in two different datasets.&nbsp;Finally, the dataset related to construction site options&nbsp;(4)&nbsp;contains data on all working activities related to the fa&ccedil;ade modules.</span></strong><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p><strong><span><br>3. INSTALLATION</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>All datasets are in .csv format with data separated by a ";".</span></strong><span>&nbsp;<strong><br>Private data belonging to third parties or under copyright, which cannot be published, have been replaced with "omitted".</strong></span></p>

Data of "Using current research information systems to investigate data acquisition and data sharing practices of computer scientists"

<p>This study describes a methodology where departmental academic publications are used to analyse the ways in which computer scientists share research data.</p> <p>Without sufficient information about researchers&rsquo; data sharing, there is a risk of mismatching FAIR data service efforts with the needs of researchers. This study describes a methodology where departmental academic publications are used to analyse the ways in which computer scientists share research data. The advancement of FAIR data would benefit from novel methodologies that reliably examine data sharing at the level of multidisciplinary research organisations. Studies that use CRIS publication data to elicit insight into researchers&rsquo; data sharing may therefore be a valuable addition to the current interview and questionnaire methodologies.</p> <p><strong>Data was collected from the following sources:</strong></p> <p>All journal articles published by researchers in the computer science department of the case study&rsquo;s university during 2019 were extracted for scrutiny from the current research information system. For these 193 articles, a coding framework was developed to capture the key elements of acquiring and sharing research data. Article DOIs are included in the research data.</p> <p>The scientific journal articles and theirs DOIs are used in this study for the purpose of academic expression.</p> <p>The raw data is compiled into a single CSV file. Rows represent specific articles and columns are the values of the data points described below. <p><strong>Survey "Readiness of library information science graduates to create an information system in the library (on the example of open science)"</strong></p> <p>The research is aimed at identifying the degree of readiness of future specialists in the field of library and information science to work in new and relevant areas of library activities related to the development of information infrastructure of open science.</p> <p>The survey consists of 4 thematic blocks and contains 21 questions.</p> <p>The survey was attended by 54 students from 10 Russian universities, studying in the direction of training 51.03.06 "Library and Information Science".</p> <p>The results of this survey will serve as a basis for the development of professional development programmes on various aspects of the functioning of open science for specialists in the field of library and information activity.</p> <p><strong>Опрос &laquo;Готовность выпускников направления библиотечная информационная наука к созданию системы информирования в библиотеке (на примере открытой науки)&raquo;</strong></p> <p>Исследование направленно на выявление степени готовности будущих специалистов в области библиотечно-информационной деятельности к работе в новых и актуальных направлениях деятельности библиотек, связанных с развитием информационной инфраструктуры открытой науки.</p> <p>Опрос состоит из 4-х тематических блоков и содержит 21 вопрос.</p> <p>В опросе приняли участие 54 студента из 10 российских вузов, обучающихся по направлению подготовки 51.03.06 &laquo;Библиотечно-информационная деятельность&raquo;.</p> <p>Результаты данного опроса послужат основой разработки программ повышения квалификации по различным аспектам функционирования открытой науки для специалистов в области библиотечно-информационной деятельности.</p>
