Transport Starter Data Kit: Historical socio-transport data for Lao People's Democratic Republic
<p>This Transport Starter Data Kit contains historical annual data (1990–2021) on passenger and freight activity, segregated by mode and fuel. Additionally, historical data on energy intensities, load factors, vehicle stock, population (total, urban, rural, growth), and GDP (total, agriculture, construction, mining, manufacturing, service, energy, growth) are included in the kit, within the 'Data' tab. The historical data can be used as a foundation for transport-energy modelling and/or to identify areas of improvement. This data was verified through consultation with relevant stakeholders before publishing. The definition used for each vehicle mode is found in the 'Definitions' tab, and the description of each data observation status is found in the 'Notes' tab. All data sources are linked where possible.</p>

This episode of the MERICS China Podcast looks at what we have learned from this year's NPC and its repercussions for China and Europe. <strong>Johannes Heller-John</strong> is joined by MERICS Lead Analysts <strong>Nis Grünberg</strong> and <strong>Jacob Gunter</strong>. Patient and GP experiences of implementing a medication review intervention in older people with multimorbidity: process evaluation of the SPPiRE trial
<p>Abstract</p> <p><strong>Background: </strong>The SPPiRE cluster randomised controlled trial (RCT) found that a GP delivered medication review that incorporated screening potentially inappropriate prescriptions (PIP), a brown bag review and a patient priority assessment, resulted in a significant but small reduction in the number of medicines and no significant reduction in PIP.</p> <p><strong>Objective: </strong>To explore the experiences of GPs and patients engaged in the SPPiRE intervention and the potential for system wide implementation.</p> <p><strong>Design: </strong>Mixed methods process evaluation; quantitative data was collected from the SPPiRE intervention website and qualitative data via semi-structured interviews.</p> <p><strong>Setting and participants:</strong> 51 general practices throughout Ireland, and 404 participants with multimorbidity aged ≥65 years, prescribed ≥15 medicines participated in the RCT. Qualitative data was collected with purposive samples of intervention GPs (18/26) and patients (27/208). </p> <p><strong>Methods: </strong>Quantitative data was analysed descriptively, qualitative data thematically and both were integrated using a triangulation protocol.</p> <p><strong>Results: </strong>The analysis generated three themes, intervention implementation, mechanisms of action, and both were underpinned by the theme of context. One fifth of patients had no review, primarily due to insufficient GP time. The brown bag review component resulted in the most deprescription of medications. GPs felt it easier to change medicines if the patient was well known to them, and patients were generally receptive to change. GPs identified lack of integration into practice software systems and resources as barriers to future implementation.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Consideration of implementation of successful interventions is key to informing policy and integration into clinical practice. GPs and patients viewed the intervention positively, but implementation will depend on resourcing and integration into practice software systems.</p> <p>Trial registration number: <a href="https://doi.org/10.1186/ISRCTN12752680">ISRCTN12752680</a></p>

Knowledge and attitude of the people in San Juan de Miraflores towards the disposal of medicines.
<p><strong>Objective:</strong> To evaluate the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes on how to dispose of medicines in households in the district of San Juan de Miraflores.</p> <p><strong>Método:</strong> Hypothetical-deductive, quantitative approach, applied type and non-experimental, observational design, for which 385 households in the district of San Juan de Miraflores were surveyed.</p> <p><strong>Results:</strong> 48.3% of the respondents have an average level of knowledge of how to dispose of medicines. 93.2% of the respondents have a positive attitude towards the disposal of medicines, and there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude towards the disposal of medicines (P-value = 0.000).</p> <p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> Increased knowledge is associated with a better attitude to the disposal of medicines.</p>
The Secret Life of Writing: People, Script and Ideas in the Iberian Peninsula
<p>Abstract:</p> <p>As a rule, only those medieval manuscripts that were of interest for the powerful have been preserved. Extant codices were cherished throughout centuries as tangible signs of cultural pre-eminence and carriers of the sacred word; charters were kept as custodians of patrimony and witness to the history of institutions, proclaiming the reasons why monasteries and cathedrals should be revered. But against this rule, other manuscripts that did not directly serve the purposes of high-status minorities were created and are still around. Codices that, belonging to an ecclesiastical rite that was suppressed, should not survive today, but were kept as guardians of tradition. Charters that, intermingled with royal diplomas, have survived without an apparent reason for they do not relate to privileges granted. These sources show us a different side of medieval society in which non-powerful individuals outside central institutions played a crucial role in understanding the implications of written communication, shaping their social memory and that of their past by fully integrating writing in their lives.</p> <p>The project “The Secret Life of Writing: People, Script and Ideas in the Iberian Peninsula (c. 900-1200)” (<a href="https://peopleandwriting.wordpress.com/">https://peopleandwriting.wordpress.com/</a>) aims at exploring this common people-writing pairing to uncover what writing meant for lay communities, how it modelled their daily life, and how the use of writing individualised people within their group. From the interdisciplinary study of these sources that defy the rule, our project proposes a novel method combining approaches from Manuscript Studies to Anthropology to, based upon the graphical, textual, and historical analysis of the sources, reveal the hidden history of the people who wrote, signed, read, and kept handwritten material. People in Social Context (PISC) Dataset
<p>The People in Social Context (PISC) dataset is a new dataset that focuses on social relationships. It consists of 22,670 images of 9 types of social relationships. We provide annotation of the bounding boxes of all people, as well as the social relationship between all pairs of people in the images. In addition, we provide occupation annotation.
