Index of Sustainable Development and its components
<p><span>The proposed Sustainable Development Gauging Metrics methodology assesses sustainable development by considering two main components: Quality of Life and Security of Life.</span></p> <p><span>The Quality of Life component (C<sub>ql</sub>) evaluates the harmonization of society's development across economic, environmental, and social dimensions. It comprises:</span></p> <ul> <li><span>Economic dimension (I<sub>ec</sub>): combining global competitiveness and economic freedom indices, addressing SDGs 8, 9, 10, and 12;</span></li> <li><span>Environmental dimension (I<sub>e</sub>): utilizing the Environmental Performance Index, focusing on SDGs 6, 13, 14, and 15;</span></li> <li><span>Social dimension (I<sub>s</sub>): covering poverty, health, education, justice, etc., with 26 indicators, reflecting societal-level SDGs.</span></li> </ul> <p><span>The indicator of harmonization assesses the balance between economic, environmental, and social dimensions.</span></p> <p><span>The Security of Life component (C<sub>sl</sub>), evaluates the impact of 11 global threats on countries. These threats include decrease in energy security, imbalance between biological capacity of the Earth and human needs in biosphere, growing inequality between people and countries on the Earth, spread of global diseases, information gap, corruption, limited access to drinking water, impact of climate change and natural disaster, state fragility, proliferation and global terrorism, conflict intensity increasing.</span></p> <p><span>The purpose of this dataset is to present the results of the assessing and analyzing the Sustainable Development Index of the 134 world countries based on 2005-2022 data. </span></p>
Developing the System of Radiological Protection to Enhance Its Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
<p>The system of radiological protection has evolved since the publication of the ICRP’s first set of recommendations in 1959. It has enabled the beneficial uses of radiation and radioactive substances while protecting humans from their harmful tissue reactions and carcinogenic (and other stochastic) effects. The system has arguably been world leading in the protection of humans from carcinogens.</p> <p>Since the publication of the most recent ICRP recommendations in 2007 the pace of change in global socio-economic challenges and environmental degradation has accelerated. We face climate, biodiversity and pollution emergencies as well as global health crises such as Covid-19 and increases in non-communicable diseases such as cancer.</p> <p>In addressing the global issues we face it is therefore more important than ever to take an integrated approach to balancing social, environmental and economic risks and impacts. In the context of radiological protection it is vital that our efforts to reduce or control radiation risks consider the wider consequences of those efforts if we are to avoid causing more harm than good.</p> <p>The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an ideal framework for facilitating a balanced approach to socio-economic development and environmental protection and enhancement. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with improving health and education, reducing inequality, and spurring economic growth – all while tackling climate change and preserving our environment.</p> <p>The ICRP system of radiological protection is based on three fundamental principles: justification, optimisation and the limitation of radiation exposure. The principle of justification requires that any decision that changes the amount of radiation exposure should do more good than harm. Optimisation requires that radiation exposure should be kept as low as reasonably achievable, taking into account economic and societal factors. Optimisation is not the minimisation of radiation exposure rather the maximising of the net benefit relative to the radiation exposure.</p> <p>This paper explores how the system of radiological protection contributes to the delivery of sustainable development and considers how the SDGs might be taken into account in its further development and application to ensure that the system is fit for the 21st century.</p>

Critical barriers to sustainable capacity strengthening in global health: A systems perspective on development assistance
<p>These qualitative datasets are associated with work done under the Inter-agency Working Group for Capacity Strengthening initiative. The data was captured via Miro - a digital whiteboarding tool - using an innovative co-creation process called Systems Acupuncture and details the nine systemic barriers impeding a better, more sustainable country-driven model for capacity strengthening. The data was captured over a series of stakeholder workshops and discussion sessions, and synthesized into nine "system syndrome" maps. The maps illustrate the multi-dimensional causal relationships between individual system drivers and display feedback loops (i.e., sets of drivers that reinforce each other) within and between the system syndrome maps. Model parameter time series of the Business Roadmap for sustainable development of the Mar Menor and surrounding Campo de Cartagena
<p>The Business Roadmap and Policy Recommendations (BRM) represents 14 solutions for sustainable development of the Mar Menor and surrounding Campo de Cartagena that were developed during an extensive co-design process (workshops, expert interviews, online questionnaires) with representatives from all relevant sectors involved. A full description of the BRM, its co-development, and the modelled impacts on Key Performance Indicators of sustainability can be found in<a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7142764"> Martínez-López et al (2022)</a>.</p> <p>The model parameter time-series in this dataset indicate if and when a solution is turned on or off between 1964 and 2070 based on preferences indicated by stakeholders. These time-series represent input parameters for the System Dynamics model of the socio-ecosystem of the Mar Menor-campo de Cartagena developed in the COASTAL project and that is used to quantify impacts on key performance indicators of sustainability. This System Dynamics based model, developed by Martínez-López et al (2022) can be consulted <a href="http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7142764">here</a>.</p> <p>The Business Road Map and Policy Recommendations (BRM) consists of the following 4 milestones and related 14 solutions:</p> <p>(I) <strong>Rural ecotourism</strong>:</p> <p>1. The promotion of rural ecotourism activities.</p> <p>(II) <strong>Coastal ecotourism</strong>:</p> <p>2. The promotion of coastal ecotourism activities.</p> <p>(III) <strong>Sustainable agriculture</strong>:</p> <p>3. Implementation of nutrients, soil, and water retention measures</p> <p>4. Reduction in fertilizer use</p> <p>5. Denitrification of brine wastes from groundwater treated for irrigation</p> <p>6. Decrease in agricultural water demand per hectare (i.e. 10% of decrease by default in the model)</p> <p>(IV) <strong>Integrated sustainable management</strong>:</p> <p>7. Development and Implementation of Sustainable Transportation Resilience Indicators
<p>Communities are complex systems subject to a variety of hazards that can result in significant disruption to critical functions. Community resilience assessment is gaining popularity as a means to help communities better prepare for, respond to, and recover from disruption. Sustainable resilience, a recently developed concept, requires communities to assess system-wide capability to maintain desired performance levels, while simultaneously evaluating impacts to resilience due to changes in hazards and vulnerability over extended periods of time.</p> <p>In an earlier work, the authors developed a classification scheme to aid in identification, selection and application of community sustainable resilience indicators that can be tailored to a community’s needs in operationalizing the assessment process. These indicators were characterized according to whether they aligned with social, economic or environmental systems that are necessary for a community to achieve a sustainable resilience domain of survival, well-being, or full preparedness.</p> <p>Of the critical infrastructure systems that support these systems and domains, transportation is arguably the most important. This is based on the premise that transportation is a means to an end, providing the mobility that enables a community to establish and maintain a social, economic and environmental fabric. Whether it involves an educational, medical, recreational, religious, work or other purpose, absent a safe and reliable transportation system, none of these activities can be satisfactorily pursued. Moreover, in times of crisis, transportation serves as a vital artery for enabling access to and egress from impacted areas.</p> <p>The objective of this project was to establish and demonstrate a method for evaluating a community’s transportation resilience, such that if deficiencies exist, attention can be focused on mitigating those concerns. This approach was designed around the scenario of a river valley community exposed to the threat of a significant flood event, with the expectation that the methodology has the potential to be extended to assess community resilience to other natural and manmade hazards.</p>
Properties of selected alkali-activated materials for sustainable development
<p>The presented research focuses on three selected variants of alkali-activated materials, where the goal is to compare key properties from the point of view of material engineering and structural design. Tests of the mechanical properties of the examined materials are carried out and their durability is compared, namely frost resistance, resistance to chemical and de-icing substances and resistance to elevated temperature.</p>

<p>(i)The main aim is to develop a document that will gave an overview of current situation regarding legumes consumption and production in Croatia and also to develope a reccomendations for policy makers. <br> (ii) Purpose of this Case Study and the whole project implementation is to raise awareness about consumption and production of legumes both for human consumption and animal feed.<br> (iii) April 2019.- September 2019. <br> (iv) Species - N.A. <br> (v) PIRED facilities<br> (vi) Following different methodological tools was applied like: desk research, analysis of available quantitative historical data, interviews with key regional retailers and company managers, focus groups, benchmarking, expert analysis and expert drafting<br> (vii) detection of number of producers, utilized areas, processing infrastructure and development of recommendations for policy makers and local decision makers. <br> (viii) in progress<br> (ix) This document will have significant impact on policy, mainly on local level ( for local decision makers) because developed recommendations will gave an directions, guideline and examples of good practice.</p>

Expert consensus on core topics of sustainable development online learning module for family physicians: A Delphi study
<p><strong>Objectives</strong></p> <p>Medical institutions must provide learning experiences that enhance the knowledge and perspectives of Sustainable Development (SD) to prepare trainees of family medicine to become competent global citizens. The aim of this study was to develop an SD online learning module for trainees of family medicine.</p> <p><strong>Design</strong></p> <p>This mixed-methods study was conducted from January 2020 to May 2021, beginning with a literature review concerning Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in medicine. In-depth interviews were held to assess the relevant needs of family medic<span>ine</span> training, followed by a two-round Delphi survey with experienced educators (n = 21) in family medicine to refine and achieve consensus on the appropriate SDG topics for family physicians.</p> <p><strong>Setting</strong></p> <p>All residency training programmes in Thailand.</p> <p><strong>Participants</strong></p> <p>Members of the Residency Training Committee, Royal College of Family Physicians of Thailand.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong></p> <p>The literature review and in-depth interviews identified 12 topics of SD that were required for family physicians. The first round of the Delphi survey was concluded by identifying 7 core topics with additional suggestions. In the second round, a consensus was obtained among the experienced educators regarding 7 core topics: 1) A definition of SD, 2) Principles of SD, 3) SDG, 4) A new concept of SD, 5) SD in the context of Thailand, 6) SD and principles of family medicine and 7) SD and family practice. These core topics were grouped within three main objectives and three sub-modules.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions</strong></p> <p>An online <span>learning module of SD for family physicians was developed using a modified Delphi method. This included three sub-modules: 1) Concept and principles of SD, 2) SDG and 3) SD and its integration with family practice. This online learning module will provide additional resources for trainees of family medicine and Thai family physicians to expand their knowledge and perspectives of sustainable development.</span></p>
NRP "Cultural capital as a resource for the sustainable development of Latvia / CARD" Cultural Indicators Sub-project Dataset
<p>The aim of this research is to define what kind of key challenges and implemented solutions regarding the artist status are common in Europe, and how to develop a systematic approach for artist recognition and support in the Baltic context. Using qualitative research methodology (desk research, focus group discussions) the authors analyze the current theoretical and empirical discussion in the European Union member states and especially in the Baltic countries, highlighting different practices and experiences in defining the status and recognition of the artist, and support systems that adjust for specific needs in different countries.</p> <p>Full dataset contains tabular data (published here) and an audio recording of the focus group discussion, which is available under restricted access due to containing sensitive information (please contact luize.daksa@lka.edu.lv for further inquiries).</p>

<p>The qualitative mixed-method intervention study, grounded in content analysis and comparative methodology, reveals that incorporating SDGs into teacher training programmes is key since there is a significant direct impact on society. The objective was firstly to create an SDG-based didactic proposal including inquiry-based learning as its pedagogical approach for developing critical thinking.
