BRAIN Journal-Cursor Movement – a Valuable Indicator in Intelligent System Design-Figure 1. Science branches involved in translating product features to human needs

Approach notwithstanding, designing product features involves basically a two-step process: (a) detecting and recognizing emotional information and (b) exhibiting a suitable reaction to the previously considered input. Since needs are reflected in the emotional impact, a method to measure the emotions is necessary (Abraham & Michie, 2008) to correctly assess the impact. Referring strictly to a software product, in order to implement the capability to sense the users’ emotional state, the first step should be developing an affective database (Tao & Tan, 2005), to allow correct identification of the affective status. This results in a translation between the affective status of the user and the computer, therefore allowing the program to process the user emotion just like any other input, successfully “digitizing” emotion.

BRAIN Journal-Cursor Movement – a Valuable Indicator in Intelligent System Design-Figure 3. Average values in acceleration and clicks

However, when looking at the median values of acceleration and clicks, a clear difference appears between the states: more clicks for relaxation, higher acceleration for stress (Figure 3).

General characteristics of the working fluids for LHP cooling system design

The EVAL project aims to create a demonstrator of a passive cooling system, based on a loop heat pipe (LHP) technology, for efficient thermal management of the Ultra High Bypass Ratio (UHBR) engine bleed system valves exposed to a harsh temperature environment.

To achieve this aim, the EVAL team started from a comprehensive study of available working fluids, which have a potential to cope with the target harsh environment and meet the criteria of trade-off analysis such as physical properties (melting and critical temperature, saturated vapour pressure, figures of merit), physical and chemical stability at high temperatures, compatibility with common LHP materials, availability at the market. Also, particular attention is paid to the working fluid environmental impact in terms of ozone-depleting potential (ODP), global warming potential (GWP), compliance with REACH regulations.

This data collection presents characteristics of working fluids collected from various sources (specialized databases e.g. ASHRAE, NIST), research articles, conference proceedings, research projects summary reports, data furnished by the thermal fluid manufacturers) and compiled in three Annexes:

Annex A presents data as for ODP, GWP and REACH compliance for 728 working fluids.

Annex B presents boiling temperature and critical temperature for 728 working fluids.

Annex C presents key thermophysical properties for 32 fluids selected as prospective refrigerants for the EVAL project purposes.

In general, data collection analyses a wide range of working fluid groups: hydrocarbons, oxygenated hydrocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons, bromocarbons, hydrobromocarbons and halons, fully fluorinated species, halogenated ethers, fluoroesters, halogenated alcohols, iodocarbons special compounds, mixtures, and others.

Figure 3. Describing the sequence of input sensations sent by the system.-Designing a Growing Functional Modules "Artificial Brain"

To design the controller, first of all, the user should click the button “new” on the toolbar to
create an empty canvas and to assign it a controller's name, presently “pathfinder”. Then, the first
convenient step is to describe the feedback given by the system as a sequence of sensations (see
figure 3). The first sensation named “free”, indicates if the vehicle has been able or not to cross the
range of obstacles. Each of the next sixteen values is associated to its corresponding proximity
sensors that points out the presence of an obstacle. They are given a name beginning with “s”
followed by a number. The red color of the last sensation's field indicates that the given name is
invalid; presently, because it contains a blank character.

Perception of Mixed-Reality Shopping Assistant System to develop Design Principles : Interview Transcripts (MRDP)

The dataset is a collection of transcripts where 35 participants were interviewed to collect users’’ feedback and perceptions about the mixed-reality MR shopping assistant system. The interviews were a part of the research where a personal shopping assistance system based on optical see-through mixed-reality (MR ) technology was designed. Microsoft HoloLens 2 was leveraged as the archetype to realize this novel system to facilitating consumer information search and decision making. The design incorporated various shopping assistance elements (i.e., product information, reviews, recommendations, product availability, videos, a virtual cart, and an option to buy). Users can interact with these elements with gesture-based inputs to navigate through the interface.

Derived from the qualitative feedback from the 35 participants, we proposed six design principles that aim to support future designs and developments of mixed-reality MR shopping applications for head-mounted displays in omnichannel retail: Rigor, Informativeness, Tangibility, Summary, Comparability and Holism.
