Digital Twins: A Systematic Literature Review Based on Data Analysis and Topic Modeling
<p>The digital twin has recently become a popular topic in research related to manufacturing, such as Industry 4.0, the industrial internet of things, and cyber-physical systems. In addition, digital twins are the focus of several research areas: construction, urban management, digital transformation of the economy, medicine, virtual reality, software testing, and others. The concept is not yet fully defined, its scope seems unlimited, and the topic is relatively new; all this can present a barrier to research. The main goal of this paper is to develop a proper methodology for visualizing the digital-twin science landscape using modern bibliometric tools, text-mining and topic-modelling, based on machine learning models—Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and BERTopic (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers). The scope of the study includes 8693 publications on the topic selected from the Scopus database, published between January 1993 and September 2022. Keyword co-occurrence analysis and topic-modelling indicate that studies on digital twins are still in the early stage of development. At the same time, the core of the topic is growing, and some topic clusters are emerging. More than 100 topics can be identified; the most popular and fastest-growing topic is ‘digital twins of industrial robots, production lines and objects.’ Further efforts are needed to verify the proposed methodology, which can be achieved by analyzing other research fields.</p>
Digital twin of infant microbiome (qnet models)
<p>The complexity of the gut ecosystem, with thousands of cross-talking microbial colonizers, together with sparsely observed abundance profiles, has limited progress. We have developed a computational framework to learn an approximate “digital twin” of the maturing infant microbiome, that once learned, can reliably forecast detailed ecosystem trajectories unfolding over weeks from few initial observations. This generative model (Q-net), inferred at the level of taxonomic classes of microbes automatically from standard 16S rRNA profiles, is used to uncover actionable patterns driving developmental fate in early life. Here we publish the key qnet models to accompany our upcoming publication.</p>

The influence of twin tunnel excavation on single and group pile loading by physical modeling
<p>This study uses small-scale physical models to assess the interaction between piles and twin tunnels, considering varying tunnel distances and surface loads. The excavation process of the tunnels is simulated by gradually releasing air pressure from rubber tubes while hydraulic jacks apply loads to aluminum piles. Surface linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs) and strain gauges are utilized for measuring pile responses. Data related to bending moment and axial forces extracted from tests are also provided.</p>

<p>Dataset for Modulated Kondo screening along magnetic mirror twin boundaries in monolayer MoS2.</p> <p>STM and STS were carried out at a base operating temperature of T0 = 0.35K after in-situ transfer from the preparation chamber. STS was performed with the lock-in technique, at modulation frequency 907.0Hz. STM images are taken in constant current mode. Some of the data in Fig. 3d was taken using a second STM with an operating temperature of T = 6.5K.</p> <p>NRG simulations were performed with experimental broadening due to temperature and lock-in modulation taken into account.</p>

An age-dependent ovulatory strategy explains the evolution of dizygotic twinning in humans
<p>Dizygotic twinning, the simultaneous birth of siblings when multiple ova are released, is an evolutionary paradox. Twin bearing mothers often have elevated fitness<sup>1-5</sup>; but despite twinning being heritable<sup>6</sup>, twin births only occur at low frequencies in human populations<sup>7</sup>. We resolve this paradox by showing that twinning and non-twinning are not competing strategies, instead dizygotic twinning is the outcome of an adaptive conditional ovulatory strategy of switching from single to double ovulation with increasing age. This conditional strategy when coupled with the well-known decline in fertility as women age, maximizes reproductive success and explains the increase and subsequent decrease in twinning rate with maternal age that is observed across human populations<sup>8-10</sup>.<span> We show that the most successful ovulatory strategy would be to always double ovulate as an insurance against early fetal loss, but to never bear twins. This finding supports the hypothesis that twinning is a byproduct of selection for double ovulation rather than twinning.</span></p>

Data from: Association between total dose of ritodrine hydrochloride and pulmonary edema in twin pregnancy: a retrospective cohort study in Japan
Objective Pulmonary edema is recognized as a severe side effect of ritodrine hydrochloride. Recently, the number of twin pregnancies has been increasing. Few studies have reported the association between total dose of ritodrine hydrochloride prior to delivery and pulmonary edema in twin pregnancy. We aimed to examine this association and determine the optimal cutoff threshold of total ritodrine hydrochloride dose to predict the incidence of pulmonary edema in twin pregnancy, based on obstetric records. Design Retrospective cohort study. Setting Yamanashi Prefectural Central Hospital, Japan Participants Two hundred twenty-six women with twin pregnancy who delivered at Yamanashi Prefectural Central Hospital between September 2009 and November 2016 Methods The obstetric records of the participants were analyzed. We defined one unit of ritodrine hydrochloride as 72 mg per 24 h continuous transfusion at 50 µg/min to calculate the dose of ritodrine used for tocolysis. Outcome measures Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the association between total dose of ritodrine hydrochloride used for threatened preterm labor and pulmonary edema, while controlling for potential confounding factors. Then, a receiver-operating characteristic curve was used to determine the optimal cutoff of total ritodrine dose to predict pulmonary edema incidence. Results Mean maternal age was 32 (range, 18-46) years; 143 participants were nulliparous (63.3%), 109 had (48.2%) term deliveries, and 194 (85.8%) had cesarean deliveries. The overall incidence of pulmonary edema was 13.7% (31/226). Multivariable analysis showed that the total dose of ritodrine was significantly associated with pulmonary edema (adjusted odds ratio 1.02; 95% confidence interval, 1.004-1.03). The best cut-off point to predict the incidence of pulmonary edema was 26 units (1872 mg) (sensitivity, 61.3%; specificity, 87.8%). Conclusion Our results suggest that consideration of the total dose of ritodrine hydrochloride is helpful in the management of patients with threatened preterm labor in twin pregnancy.
Half of a twin capital with a rosette motif
The presented capital is one of seven halves of twin capitals uncovered during the years 1947–1953 by archaeologists during research in the course of reconstructing eastern wing of the monastery. The capital is considered to be one of the best examples of Romanesque masonry in Poland. It comes from the first monastic complex in Tyniec. However, researchers do not agree whether the twin capitals were originally located in the church or in the cloisters. The capital has the shape of a truncated pyramid turned upside down with a rectangular abacus, damaged in the corners, in the upper part. The head's surface is covered by floral ornamentation with palmettes, accompanied by an intertwined scroll forming heart-like shapes. On the reverse, there appears the shape of an eight-pointed star formed by the combination of two squares. The head is considered to be one of the best examples of Romanesque masonry in Poland. It comes from the first monastic foundation in Tyniec. However, researchers do not agree whether the twin capitals were originally located in the church or in the cloisters. The capital is shaped like a truncated pyramid turned upside down. The surface of the head is covered with an interlace decoration in the form of a thick ribbon that turns into a plant motif. HR-EBSD Measurements near Twins in Zicaloy-2
<p>HR-EBSD measurements made on a Zircaloy-2 sample deformed to 2.7% in tension to generate multiple deformation twins. <br /> HR-EBSD measurements were made using A Bruker HReFlash detector mounted on a Zeiss Merlin SEM. A series of pathological macromolecular crystallography datasets with twinning and other lattice disorders
<p>These 11 datasets were collected at the Diamond Light Source and belong to the same protein, NAL (N-acetyl neuraminic acid lyase), which crystallised in 4 different crystal forms from the same crystallisation conditions producing crystals with the same morphology. The file names, where applicable (10/11 cases), contain the corresponding PDB deposition code.</p>
