<p>Pre-processed data.&nbsp;</p> <p>Data were re-referenced off-line to the average of left and right mastoid electrodes, bandpass filtered from 5 to 100 Hz (4th order Butterworth filter) and then segmented to include 200 ms before and 2000 ms after stimulus onset. Epoched data were normalized based on a prestimulus period of 200 ms, and then evaluated according to a sample-by-sample procedure to remove noisy sensors that were replaced using spherical splines. Published 2021 July 2.</p> <p><strong>Description of dataset:</strong></p> <p>In our study we presented an optic flow stimulus simulating forward self-motion across a ground plane in an oddball EEG paradigm to 12 human participants and 2 macaque monkeys. We simulated two different headings (forward-left vs. forward-right) presented either as standard or deviant trials and tested for the occurrence of a visual mismatch negativity (vMMN) by comparing the visual-evoked potentials (VEPs).&nbsp;</p> <p>Human data:</p> <p>The dataset contains the preprocessed VEPs of all 12 human participants already averaged over all trials per participant. It contains data from all electrodes used for analysis (P1, P2, O1, O2, PO3, PO4, CP1, CP2) divided into data recordings in standard (&#39;_std&#39;) or deviant (&#39;_odd&#39;) trials. Each of these files consists of four subfiles representing the presented combinations of heading (forward to the right: &#39;_r&#39; or forward to the left: &#39;_l&#39;) and attention condition (attention towards fixation target: &#39;fix&#39; or attention towards the ground plane: &#39;plane&#39;). The data matrices in these subfiles are sorted as [participants x time-points].</p> <p>Monkey data:</p> <p>Each .mat file contains the preprocessed VEPs from one monkey (&#39;data&#39;), the corresponding electrode labels (&#39;elec&#39;) and the common time vector in seconds (&#39;time&#39;). The data struct contains VEPs for left- and rightwards heading in separate subfields, which again contain standard (&#39;stan&#39;) and deviant (&#39;odd&#39;) presentations of that heading. Within each subcondition, the actual data matrices are sorted as [electrodes x time-points x trials]. Here, the numbering of electrodes corresponds to the electrode labels contained in the &#39;elec&#39; variable.</p>

Data from: Perceived duration of brief visual events is mediated by timing mechanisms at the global stages of visual processing

There is a growing body of evidence pointing to the existence of modality-specific timing mechanisms for encoding sub-second durations. For example, the duration compression effect describes how prior adaptation to a dynamic visual stimulus results in participants underestimating the duration of a sub-second test stimulus when it is presented at the adapted location. There is substantial evidence for the existence of both cortical and pre-cortical visual timing mechanisms; however, little is known about where in the processing hierarchy the cortical mechanisms are likely to be located. We carried out a series of experiments to determine whether or not timing mechanisms are to be found at the global processing level. We had participants adapt to random dot patterns that varied in their motion coherence, thus allowing us to probe the visual system at the level of motion integration. Our first experiment revealed a positive linear relationship between the motion coherence level of the adaptor stimulus and duration compression magnitude. However, increasing the motion coherence level in a stimulus also results in an increase in global speed. To test whether duration compression effects were driven by global speed or global motion, we repeated the experiment, but kept global speed fixed while varying motion coherence levels. The duration compression persisted, but the linear relationship with motion coherence was absent, suggesting that the effect was driven by adapting global speed mechanisms. Our results support previous claims that visual timing mechanisms persist at the level of global processing.

Data from: Luminance-dependent visual processing enables moth flight in low light

Animals must operate under an enormous range of light intensities. Nocturnal and twilight flying insects are hypothesized to compensate for dim conditions by integrating light over longer times. This slowing of visual processing would increase light sensitivity but should also reduce movement response times. Using freely hovering moths tracking robotic moving flowers, we showed that the moth's visual processing does slow in dim light. These longer response times are consistent with models of how visual neurons enhance sensitivity at low light intensities, but they could pose a challenge for moths feeding from swaying flowers. Dusk-foraging moths avoid this sensorimotor tradeoff; their nervous systems slow down but not so much as to interfere with their ability to track the movements of real wind-blown flowers.

Data from: The effect of static versus dynamic stimuli on visual processing of sexual cues in androphilic women and gynephilic men

Models of sexual response posit that attentional processing of sexual cues is requisite for sexual responding. Despite hypothesized similarities in the underlying processes resulting in sexual response, gender differences in sexual arousal patterns are abundant. One such gender difference relates to the stimulus features (e.g., gender cues, sexual activity cues) that elicit a response in men and women. In the current study, we examined how stimulus modality (static visual images versus dynamic audiovisual films) and stimulus features (gender, sexual activity, and nonsexual contextual cues) influences attentional (i.e., gaze) and elaborative (i.e., self-reported attraction, self-reported arousal) processing of sexual stimuli. Men's initial and controlled attention was consistently gender-specific (i.e., greater attention towards female targets), and this was not influenced by stimulus modality or the presence of sexual activity cues. In contrast, gender-specificity of women's attention patterns differed as a function of attentional stage, stimulus modality, and the features within the stimulus. Degree of specificity was positively predictive of self-reported attraction in both genders; however, it was not significantly predictive of self-reported arousal. These findings are discussed in the context of gendered processing of visual sexual information, including a discussion of implications for research designs.

Integrating Visual Aids to Enhance the Code Reviewer Selection Process Replication Package

<p>Modern Code Review (MCR) is an integral part of a software development strategy that accelerates product quality by identifying defects, code smells, and other harmful practices. However, assigning appropriate reviewers to evaluate changed code during the review process remains challenging. While automated tools for reviewer assignments have limited impact in practice, the process often relies on manual investigation of project histories to retrieve knowledge of team members and their activities. Therefore, in this study, we present an approach to automatically assemble developers&#39; information and visualize it meaningfully, which helps to choose appropriate reviewers. First, we propose three metrics that measure developers&#39; collaboration, reviewers&#39; expertise, and reviewers&#39; workload and visualize them through networks. Second, we perform a case study of three popular open-source projects, where we compute and visualize each developers&#39; information according to the proposed metrics. Finally, we conducted two online surveys to assess the developers&#39; perceptions of the proposed visual benefits. The results show that the proposed method can assist in identifying relevant reviewers and be immensely helpful to new developers. Additionally, survey respondents expressed reliance on the efficacy of the visual aids in workload balancing and reducing review time.&nbsp;</p>
