<p class="MsoPlainText"><span>To identify the contribution of soil organic and inorganic fractions to soil water retention, we compiled the data of soil water retention curves and soil physicochemical properties. Data includes site information (Table 1), soil pH, soil C, cation exchange capacity (CEC), exchangeable basic cations, particle size distribution, soil texture class, contents of short-range-order minerals (Table 2), and soil water retention at different pressures, saturated hydraulic conductivity, and termite nest percent in soil profile (Table 3).</span></p>

Irrigation well water in Nebraska: essential nutrient contents and other properties
<p>Water nutrient concentrations and other properties were surveyed by sampling water from 642 irrigation wells in Nebraska. The amount of Ca, Mg, S, Cl, and B applied in irrigation exceeds removal in 15 Mg ha<sup>-1</sup> of corn (<i>Zea mays</i> L.) grain harvest for most wells. Irrigation supply exceeded corn grain harvest removal of K, Mn and Mo for >20% of the wells. The supply of P, Zn, Cu, Fe, and Mo was generally very low but sufficient with some wells to be considered in nutrient management plans. The median level of nitrate N was 4.4 ppm with 25% of the wells having >10 ppm NO<sub>3</sub>-N which is above the suitability limit for human consumption. The agricultural lime equivalent applied with one or two ML of irrigation was enough to neutralize the acidifying effect of 200 kg ha<sup>-1</sup> of fertilizer-N for 70% or 89% of the wells. Nutrient and lime supply was relatively low for Sandhills wells and relatively high for wells in river valleys of <100 ft depth. No wells had excessive Na levels but 0.3% of the wells had salinity levels of concern. A grouping of wells into 11 aquifer, geological formation and well-depth combinations accounted for >20% of the variation for most water properties but much variation occurred within groups. Sampling of the well water is needed for full optimization of nutrient and soil management. Information on nutrients supplied through irrigation should be complemented by regular soil testing and the use of recommended nutrient management guidelines.</p>
Computing solubility and thermodynamic properties of H2O2 in water
<p>The input files used for GROMACS and BRICK software in this work has been uploaded. The dataset contains .itp files for the H2O2 forcefields used and the .mdp file used for a NPT run on aqueous H2O2 solution. GROMACS was used to determine the densities, viscosities and diffusion coefficients of H2O2 in water. Also, BRICK input files (forcefield.in, settings.in, topology.in, H2O2, water, restart.in and weightfunction.in) has been uploaded. BRICK was used to calculate the solubility (Henry coefficient) of H2O2 in water. </p>
Future changes in mangrove coastal water properties
<p>This dataset contains data on future changes in sea-surface water properties along the global distribution of mangrove forests. This includes the coordinates of mangrove occurence and associated information on present (2000-2014) and future (2090-2100) sea-surface temperature (SST), sea-surface salinity (SSS), and sea-surface density (SSD, derived from SST and SSS, using the UNESCO EOS-80 equation of state polynomial for seawater - 'sw_dens.m' in MATLAB). SST and SSS fields from which the data were extracted, are from the Bio-ORACLE database. Additionally, for each of the mangrove occurence points (longitude, latitude), information is provided about the main mangrove biogeographical region and associated province as provided in the Marine Ecoregions of the World dataset (Spalding et al., 2007, <em>BioScience</em>), alowing for a spatial analysis of the data. More information and details about the data are provided in the README sheet of the Excel data file.</p>

Data from: A review of the defining chemical properties of soda lakes and pans: an assessment on a large geographic scale of Eurasian inland saline surface waters
The aim of this study is to evaluate the definition of water chemical type, with particular attention to soda brine characteristics by assessing ionic composition and pH values on a large geographic scale and broad salinity (TDS) range of Eurasian inland saline surface waters, in order to rectify the considerable confusion about the exact chemical classification of soda lakes and pans. Data on pH and on the concentration of eight major ions were compiled into a database drawn from Austria, China, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia, and Turkey. The classification was primarily based on dominant ions exceeding an equivalent percentage of 25 (> 25e%) of the total cations or anions, and the e% rank of dominant ions was also identified. We identified four major types: waters dominated by (1) Na-HCO3 (10.0%), (2) Na-HCO3 + CO3 (31.4%), (3) Na-Cl (45.9%), and (4) Na-SO4 (12.7%), considering only the first ion by e% rank. These major types can be divided into 30 subtypes in the dataset, taking into account the e% rank of all dominant ions. The major and subtypes of soda brine can be divided into "Soda" and "Soda-Saline" types. "Soda type" when Na+ and HCO3– + CO32– are the first in the rank of dominant ions (> 25e%), and "Soda-Saline type" when Na+ is the first in the rank of dominant cations and the sum of HCO3– + CO32– concentration exceeds 25e%, but it is not the first in the rank of dominant anions. Soda-saline type can be considered as a separate evolutionary stage between Soda and Saline types respect to the geochemical interpretation by saturation indexes of brines. The obtained overlapping ranges in distribution demonstrate that a pH measurement alone is not a reliable indicator to classify the permanent alkaline "soda type" and various other types of temporary alkaline waters.

Bacterial properties in discrete water column samples collected during Palmer LTER station seasons at Palmer Station Antarctica, 2002 - 2019.
The microbial biogeochemistry component of PAL focuses on marine bacterioplankton, and is thus a counterpart to the phytoplankton and zooplankton components, which together provide a detailed and comprehensive description of plankton ecology in PAL-LTER. Bacteria and Archaea (hereafter called "bacteria") are taxonomically and metabolically diverse. In coastal and offshore surface waters Bacteria generally predominate over Archaea, but Archaea are equal or greater in abundance in the mesopelagic layer below the euphoric zone. We focus on aerobic, heterotrophic bacteria in the upper 65 m at Palmer Station which oxidize recently-produced low molecular weight dissolved organic compounds released by phytoplankton and zooplankton, decomposing them back into CO2 and inorganic nutrients. Globally, marine bacteria respire an amount of carbon roughly equal to about half the daily photosynthetic production. In cold polar waters, relative bacterial activity is lower, with bacterial biomass production being equal to <5% of the daily photosynthesis. The ratio at lower latitudes is 10-20%. The factors responsible for this contrast are not entirely clear. Resolving this pattern is a key aim of the PAL microbial component. At Palmer Station, bacterial production is low (< 10 mgC/m2/d) in the winter (polar night) when there is little if any photosynthesis. There is a climatological (2003-14 average) summer peak of 50-60 mgC/m2/d in January-February but with considerable seasonal and annual variability. The 2016/2017 season data contains bacteria abundances for preserved samples for comparison to abundances from live samples.
