Data for: A numerical study of a left ventricular expander for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

Increased cardiac stiffness hinders proper left ventricular (LV) expansion, resulting in decreased volume, delayed filling, and diastolic dysfunction. LV expanders are spring-like devices that aim to improve diastolic function by facilitating mechanical outward expansion. Implantations in animal models and in a few patients have shown promising results, yet further evaluation is needed to assess range of function and the risk of use. In this computational study, the effectiveness and potential use of a generic LV expander were assessed by utilising our finite element models of HFpEF-induced animal subjects. Following implantation, the treated models were compared to the corresponding untreated and healthy preinduction models. Influence of device orientation and its material properties was also examined. Our results demonstrated a reduction in LV pressure and a volumetric improvement. Computed LV stresses have shown no gross irregularities. The device contributed to stress elevation during diastole while having a minor effect during systole, supporting a basic safety profile. This is the first study to use numerical analysis to assess LV expanders' performance on different HFpEF phenotypes. Improvement in heart function was demonstrated in both subjects, suggesting its potential use in various HFpEF manifestations, yet customisation and optimal deployment are essential to improve heart performance.

H2020 ENODISE: Numerical Aeroacoustic Database Configuration A1 : GPUP

This dataset contains the numerical prediction for A1 configuration as defined in the H2020 ENODISE project (https://www.vki.ac.be/index.php/about-enodise). In this configuration, a single two-bladed propeller is immersed in a boundary layer. The present results can be compared to the measurements carried out by the University of Bristol.

The investigated operating point as calculated in the prediction is:

Uinf = 33 m/s, 6500 rpm, advance ratio J=1

The results were calculated using the LES-CABARET method on GPUs. The results presented are preliminary result on coarse grid with the comparison with the experiment for hot-wire and overhead acoustic data at 60-, 90- and 120-degree observer angles.

Investigating the velocity of magmatic intrusions and its relation with rock fracture toughness: insights from laboratory experiments and numerical models

This repository provides compressed folders containing the velocity profiles recorded during our oil-filled crack propagation experiments and the code used to simulate those experiments. In particular, the files in compressed folders 10ml, 30ml, 50ml and others_ml contain two columns corresponding to the tracked cracks' depth [m] and velocity [m/s]. The two folders DYKE-CODE_constant-Ef and DYKE-CODE_variable-Ef contain the Fortran90 code, the input and output files, and all the scripts needed to reproduce the simulations and the plots displayed in Figure 3 and Figure 4 of the article "Investigating the velocity of magmatic intrusions and its relation with rock fracture toughness: insights from laboratory experiments and numerical models" by A. Gaete, F. Maccaferri, S. Furst, and V. Pinel.
