Data from: Assessment of the broader economic consequences of HPV prevention from a government-perspective: a fiscal analytic approach

Background. Cervical cancer poses a substantial burden in terms of morbidity, mortality, and economic losses, especially in low/middle-income countries. HPV vaccination and/or cervical cancer screening among females may reduce the burden of HPV-related diseases, including cervical cancer. However, limited funds may impede the implementation of population-based programmes. Governmental investments in the prevention of infectious disease may have broader economic and fiscal benefits, which are not accounted in conventional economic analyses. This study estimates the broader economic and fiscal impacts of implementing HPV vaccination and/or cervical cancer screening in Indonesia from the perspective of the government. Methods. A government-perspective quantitative analytic framework was applied to assess the Net Present Value (NPV) of investment on cervical cancer prevention strategies including HPV vaccination, cervical screening and its combination in Indonesia. All monetary values were presented in International Dollars (I$). Results. Based on a cohort of 10,000,000 Indonesian 12-year-old females, it was estimated that HPV vaccination and/or cervical cancer screening result in a positive NPV for the Indonesian government. The combination of cervical screening and HPV vaccination generated a substantial reduction of cervical cancer incidence and HPV-related mortality of 87,862 and 19,359, respectively. It was estimated that HPV vaccination in combination with cervical screening is the most favorable option for cervical cancer prevention (NPV I$2.031.786.000), followed by HPV vaccination alone (NPV I$1.860.783.000) and cervical screening alone (NPV I$375.244.000). Conclusion. In addition to clinical benefits, investing in HPV vaccination and cervical screening may yield considerable fiscal benefits for the Indonesian governments due to lifelong benefits resulting from reduction of cervical cancer-related morbidity and mortality.

Data from: Effectiveness of government anti-smoking policy on nonsmoking youth in Korea: a four-year trend analysis of national survey data

Objectives: Since the Health Promotion Act was introduced in Korea in 1995, anti-smoking policies and regulations have undergone numerous revisions, and non-smoking areas have gradually been expanded. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a partial legislative ban on adolescent exposure to secondhand smoke using objective urinary cotinine levels in a nationwide representative sample. Methods: Urine cotinine levels were measured in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2008 to 2011. This study was a trend analysis of 4 years of national survey data from 2197 Korean youth aged 10–18 years. Among non-smokers, the 75th percentile urinary cotinine level was estimated. We also considered the number of household smokers. Results: The 75th percentile urine cotinine level of non-smokers showed a significant decreasing trend from 2008 to 2011, from 15.47 to 5.37 ng/mL, respectively. Urine cotinine did not decline significantly in non-smokers living with smokers during the study period. The results did not show a statistically significant reduction in smoking rate in adolescents from 2008 to 2011, although there was a trend towards a decrease (p=0.081). Conclusions: Based on urine cotinine levels, government-initiated anti-smoking policies have only been effective among highly exposed non-smoking adolescents during the study period. Further study needs to evaluate whether or not the legislative ban affects domestic smoking exposure.

Data for the paper of "Does Government Environmental Audit Promote Green Transformation? Evidence from China's High-carbon Enterprises"

<p>This study selected listed companies in high-carbon industries in the A-share market of China from 2013 to 2019 as the initial sample. The specific screening process is as follows: Firstly, based on the &quot;China Listed Company Carbon Emission Ranking (2021)&quot; jointly released by the &quot;Caijing&quot; magazine and China Carbon Investment Group, which includes thirteen high-energy consumption and heavily polluting industries such as petrochemicals, chemicals, building materials, steel, non-ferrous metals, papermaking, electricity, aviation, mining, fermentation, textiles, brewing, and pharmaceuticals (Yang et al., 2020), the top 100 A-share companies in terms of carbon emissions on the ranking were identified. Then, according to the industry classification standards of the China Securities Regulatory Commission in 2012, the industries in which these companies are classified were determined. Specifically, 11 industries including electricity, non-metallic mineral products, air transportation, ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing, coal mining and washing, petroleum processing, coking and nuclear fuel processing, and non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing were selected as high-carbon industries. To ensure the robustness of the results, ST, *ST companies, and samples with missing variable values were further excluded, resulting in a final sample of 2344 data observations. The data on GEA were manually compiled from the &quot;China Audit Yearbook,&quot; while the data on green patent applications by listed companies were sourced from the CNRDS database. Other data were obtained from the CSMAR database. To eliminate the potential impact of outliers on the research results, this study winsorized continuous variables at the 1st and 99th percentiles. Data processing and analysis were conducted using Stata 16 and Excel 2021 software.</p>
