Data from: Premature birth affects visual body representation and body schema in preterm children

<p>Raw data used for the article &quot;Premature birth affects visual body representation and body schema in preterm children&quot;</p> <p>Research has demonstrated that from the first six months of life infants show early sensitivity to body visual features and rely on sensorimotor and&nbsp; proprioceptive inputs in forming representations of their own bodies. Premature birth interferes with typical exposition to visual, sensorimotor and proprioceptive stimulation, thus presumably affecting the development of body representations. Here, we tested this hypothesis by comparing the performance of preterm children with that of age-matched full-term children in two tasks assessing, respectively, visual body processing and body schema. We found that preterm children had spared configural processing but altered holistic processing of others&rsquo; bodies and showed a general difficulty in expressing visuospatial judgements on body stimuli. Furthermore, body-centered visuospatial abilities were associated with specific impairments in operating object-based visuospatial transformations. The findings of this study indicate that preterm birth might interfere with the development of body&nbsp; representations at the levels of body visual perceptual processing and of body schema, with effects even on visuo-spatial abilities for non-bodily stimuli. Body-centered rehabilitative interventions should be proposed to preterm children in order to enhance visuo-spatial abilities and higher-level cognitive functions.</p>

IHW COMET HALLEY METEOR ETA AQUARID VISUAL DATA V1.0

NASA's International Halley Watch (IHW) has created a Comet Halley Archive. The collection of data spans the full wavelength range as submitted by scientists to the IHW. The observations belong to one of the following Disciplines: Amateur, Astrometry, Infrared Studies, Large-Scale Phenomena, Meteor Studies, Near-Nucleus Studies, Photometry and Polarimetry, Radio Studies, and Spectroscopy and Spectrophotometry. The data collected by these nine disciplines were augmented by Spacecraft measurements. The data were submitted to IHW, but the evaluation and selection for the Archive has been the primary responsibility of the Discipline Specialist Teams for each network in cooperation with the Lead Center. The visual data for Eta Aquarid contains 579 observations, spanning dates 1984 April 27 through 1987 May 11.

VO1/VO2 MARS VISUAL IMAGING SS EXPRMNT DATA REC BROWSE V2.0

This data set includes sub-sampled versions of Viking Orbiter images that are intended to facilitate rapid viewing of the image collection. The image data in these browse images have been reduced in size by sub-sampling the original image by a factor of 4 in both lines and samples. Thus, the data volume has been reduced by a factor of 16. A Viking Orbiter browse image contains 264 lines and 300 samples. A filtering procedure was used in generating the browse images because Viking Orbiter images commonly contain noisy data or are missing data. The brightness value of a pixel in a browse image is the median brightness value of an array of 4 by 4 pixels from the original image. If the 4 by 4 array of original pixels contained zero values, those zero value pixels were not used in determining the median value. Of course, if the entire 4 by 4 array contained zero value pixels, the corresponding pixel in the browse image was assigned a zero value.

VO1/VO2 MARS VISUAL IMAGING SS EXPRMNT DATA RECORD V2.0

This data set is a digital archive of images acquired by the Viking Orbiter 1 and 2 spacecraft. The archive will include the best available Experiment Data Record (EDR) versions of images acquired by the Viking Orbiter Visual Imaging Subsystems (VIS). The archive is stored on compact read-only optical disk media (CD-ROM) for distribution. The EDR image data are stored on CD-ROM in a compressed format that allows exact reconstruction of the original image. The images were compressed in order to reduce the number of CD-ROMs required for the archive. The average Viking Orbiter image is compressed by a factor of about 3.5. Each CD-ROM in the archive also includes documentation about the organization and contents of the disk. Software is included to provide programmers with tools to decompress image files. The CD-ROM has index files containing information about all the images stored in the archive. These index files can be loaded into a database management system to help the user locate images of interest.

After the digital data were transmitted to Earth and received at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, they were subject to a variety of processes to produce the final digital tapes and photoproducts. The first step was to strip out all the non-video data and produce a System Data Record (SDR). This was compiled into video format, and an Experiment Data Record (EDR) was produced. The EDR data consist of unprocessed (raw) instrument data. Substantial processing is required to reconstruct each image owing to the unique manner in which data were transmitted to earth. Images were initially recorded on 7-track magnetic tape recorders on the spacecraft. Each raw data frame retrieved from the tracking station thus contains every seventh pixel arranged in either increasing or decreasing order. Image data reconstructed from these raw data frames by the Mission Test Imaging System (MTIS) form the EDR digital archive tape.

Did you even see that? Visual sensory processing of single stimuli under different locomotor loads [motion tracking data]

<p>Modern living and working environments are more and more interspersed with the concurrent execution of locomotion and sensory processing, most often in the visual domain. Many job profiles involve the presentation of visual information while walking, for example in warehouse logistics work, where a worker has to manage walking to the correct aisle to pick up a package while being presented with visual information over data-glasses concerning the next order. Similar use-cases can be found in manufacturing jobs, for example in car montage assembly lines where next steps are presented via augmented reality headsets while walking at a slow pace. Considering the overall scarcity of cognitive resources available to be deployed to either the cognitive or motor processes, task performance decrements were found when increasing load in either domain. Interestingly, the walking motion also had beneficial effects on peripheral contrast detection and the inhibition of visual stream information.</p> <p>Taking these findings into account, we conducted a study that comprised the detection of single visual targets (Landolt Cs) within a broad range of the visual field (-40&deg; to +40&deg; visual angle) while either standing, walking, or walking with concurrent perturbations. We used questionnaire (NASA-TLX), behavioral (response times and accuracy), and neurophysiological data (ERPs and ERSPs) to quantify the effects of cognitive-motor interference. The study was conducted in a Gait Real-time Analysis Interactive Laboratory (GRAIL), using a 180&deg; projection screen and a swayable and tiltable dual-belt treadmill.</p> <p>Questionnaire and behavioral measures showed common patterns. We found increasing subjective physical workload and behavioral decrements with increasing stimulus eccentricity and motor complexity. Electrophysiological results also indicated decrements in stimulus processing with higher stimulus eccentricity and movement complexity (P3, Theta), but highlighted a beneficial role when walking without perturbations and processing more peripheral stimuli regarding earlier sensory components (N1pc/N2pc, N2).</p> <p>These findings suggest that walking without impediments can enhance the visual processing of peripheral information and therefore help with perceiving non-foveal sensory content. Also, our results could help with re-evaluating previous findings in the context of cognitive-motor interference, as increased motor complexity might not always impede cognitive processing and performance.</p>
