Data from: Non-industry sponsored preclinical studies on statins yield greater efficacy estimates than industry-sponsored studies: a meta-analysis

Industry-sponsored clinical drug studies are associated with publication of outcomes that favor the sponsor, even when controlling for potential bias in the methods used. However, the influence of sponsorship bias has not been examined in preclinical animal studies. We performed a meta-analysis of preclinical statin studies to determine whether industry sponsorship is associated with either increased effect sizes of efficacy outcomes and / or risks of bias in a cohort of published preclinical statin studies. We searched Medline (January 1966 - April 2012) and identified 63 studies evaluating the effects of statins on atherosclerosis outcomes in animals. Two coders independently extracted study design criteria aimed at reducing bias, results for all relevant outcomes, sponsorship source, and investigator financial ties. The I2 statistic was used to examine heterogeneity. We calculated the standardized mean difference (SMD) for each outcome and pooled data across studies to estimate the pooled average SMD using random effects models. In a priori subgroup analyses, we assessed statin efficacy by outcome measured, sponsorship source, presence or absence of financial conflict information, use of an optimal time window for outcome assessment, accounting for all animals, inclusion criteria, blinding, and randomization. The effect of statins was significantly larger for studies sponsored by non-industry sources (-1.99; 95% CI -2.68, -1.31) versus studies sponsored by industry (-0.73; 95% CI -1.00, -0.47) (p value < 0.001). Statin efficacy did not differ by disclosure of financial conflict information, use of an optimal time window for outcome assessment, accounting for all animals, inclusion criteria, blinding, and randomization. Possible reasons for the differences between non-industry and industry sponsored studies, such as selective reporting of outcomes, require further study.

Data from: The first high-resolution aerosol pH change since industrial revolution constructed by the nitrogen isotopes of ice core ammonium

<p><span><span>Aerosol acidity has broad significance in the atmosphere and ecosystems; however, a reliable way to quantify its changes over long time is lacking. Here, we propose a n</span><span>ew</span><span> approach calculating aerosol pH based on the nitrogen stable isotope composition (δ15N) of aerosol ammonium (NH4+) and for the first time reconstruct historical trajectory of aerosol pH over the last two centuries via δ15N of NH4+ achieved in a Tibetan ice core. We observed a significant decrease in δ15N of ice core NH4+ by 13‰ from the preindustrial to modern era, corresponding to a decreased in aerosol pH by 0.75 units. The decline in pH demonstrates a dominant role of anthropogenic emissions in acid gases over alkaline gases since Industrial Revolution. Our study also suggests that spatiotemporal patterns of aerosol acidity could be widely revealed by future nitrogen stable isotope of aerosol</span><span> or ice core</span><span> ammonium measurement, which in turn will promote the understanding in aerosol chemistry in the context of global environmental changes.</span>y in the context of global environmental changes.</span></p>

InHARD-DT - Industrial Human Action Recognition Dataset - Digital Twin

<p>This paper explores the use of a Digital Twin of a real industrial workstation involving assembly tasks with a robotic arm interfaced with Virtual Reality (VR) to extract a digital human model. The DT simulates assembly operations performed by humans aiming to generate self-labeled data. Thereby, a Human Action Recognition dataset named InHARD-DT was created to validate a real use case in which we use the acquired auto-labeled DT data of the virtual representation of the InHARD dataset to train a Spatial&ndash;Temporal Graph Convolutional Neural Network with skeletal data on one hand. On the other hand, the Physical Twin (PT) data of the InHARD dataset was used for testing. Therefore, we introduce a RGB+S dataset named &ldquo;Industrial Human Action Recognition Dataset - Digital Twin&rdquo; (InHARD-DT) from a real-world setting for industrial human action recognition.&nbsp;</p> <p>We invited 12 distinct subjects from the LINEACT laboratory (4 females and 8 males) for the DT data collection to perform the same assembly tasks of the InHARD dataset (link below) in Virtual Reality via a VR application of an industrial real workstation. This dataset contains 13 different industrial action classes and over 4800 action samples. The introduction of this dataset should allow us the study and development of various learning techniques for the task of human actions analysis inside industrial environments involving human robot collaborations. It can be used also in cross-validation scenarios where the training phase can be done using the Physical Twin (PT) data of the InHARD dataset (real world scenarios) and then test using Digital Twin (DT) data of the InHARD-DT dataset which is the main objective of this paper.&nbsp;</p>
