MS-UMG: MALDI-TOF Mass Spectra and Resistance Information on Antimicrobials from University Medical Center Göttingen

<p>During routine diagnostic procedures, we aggregated MALDI-TOF MS data of organisms isolated from clinical specimens from the University Medical Center G&ouml;ttingen (UMG) in 2020 / 2021. We integrated these with corresponding antimicrobial susceptibility profiles. This amounted to &nbsp;26,961 mass spectra and 26,961 corresponding metadata entries for the year 2020, and 50,381 mass spectra and 50,381 corresponding metadata entries for 2021, respectively. Dataset for: Dopamine neurons that inform Drosophila olfactory memory have distinct, acute functions driving attraction and aversion

<p>The brain must guide immediate responses to beneficial and harmful stimuli while simultaneously writing memories for future reference. While both immediate actions and reinforcement learning are instructed by dopamine, how dopaminergic systems maintain coherence between these two reward functions is unknown. Through optogenetic activation experiments, we showed that the dopamine neurons that inform olfactory memory in Drosophila have a distinct, parallel function driving attraction and aversion (valence). Sensory neurons required for olfactory memory were dispensable to dopaminergic valence. A broadly projecting set of dopaminergic cells had valence that was dependent on dopamine, glutamate, and octopamine. Similarly, a more restricted dopaminergic cluster with attractive valence was reliant on dopamine and glutamate; flies avoided opto-inhibition of this narrow subset, indicating the role of this cluster in controlling ongoing behavior. Dopamine valence was distinct from output-neuron opto-valence in locomotor pattern, strength, and polarity. Overall our data suggest that dopamine&rsquo;s acute effect on valence provides a mechanism by which a dopaminergic system can coherently write memories to influence future responses while guiding immediate attraction and aversion.</p>

Supporting information for "Regional benthic δ18O stacks for the "41-kyr world" - an Atlantic-Pacific divergence between 1.8-1.9 Ma"

<p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>Benthic &delta;<sup>18</sup>O stacks are the benchmarks by which paleoceanographic data are stratigraphically aligned and compared. However, a recent study found that between 1.8-1.9 million years ago (Ma) several Ceara Rise records differed substantially from the widely used LR04 global stack. Here, we use new Bayesian stacking software to construct regional stacks and demonstrate a geographical divergence in benthic &delta;<sup>18</sup>O features from 1.8-1.9 Ma. The pattern of isotopic stage features observed in the Ceara Rise is widespread throughout the Atlantic and differs notably from Pacific records. We propose that this regional difference in isotopic stages may be the result of relatively strong precession forcing and weaker obliquity forcing between 1.8-1.9 Ma. In accordance with the Antiphase Hypothesis, our results highlight a period of apparent sensitivity to regional precession forcing that is masked during most of the 41-kyr world due to the amplitude modulation of obliquity forcing.</p> <p>In this version, we tested how an update to the BIGMACS code base (https://github.com/eilion/BIGMACS) to V1.1 may or may not impact our results of the GRL paper. We found that the updated code has a negligent impact on the results, as can be seen in the two new figures.</p>

Knockdown resistance (kdr) genotypes and collection information for Aedes aegytpi from Iquitos, Peru (2000 - 2017)

<p>This study describes the evolution of <i>knockdown resistance (kdr)</i> haplotypes in <i>Aedes aegypti</i> in response to pyrethroid insecticide use over the course of 18 years in Iquitos, Peru. Based on the duration and intensiveness<span> of sampling (~10,000 samples), this is the most thorough study of kdr population genetics in <i>Ae. aegypti</i> to date within a city.</span> We provide evidence for the direct connection between programmatic citywide pyrethroid spraying and the increase in frequency of specific <i>kdr</i> haplotypes by identifying two evolutionary events in the population. The relatively high selection coefficients, even under infrequent insecticide pressure, emphasize how quickly <i>Ae. aegypti </i>populations can evolve. In our examination of the literature on mosquitoes and other insect pests, we could find no cases where a pest evolved so quickly to so few exposures to low or non-residual insecticide applications. <span>The observed rapid increase in frequency of resistance alleles might have been aided by the incomplete dominance of resistance-conferring alleles over corresponding susceptibility alleles.</span> In addition to dramatic temporal shifts, spatial suppression experiments reveal that genetic heterogeneity existed not only at the citywide scale, but also on a very fine scale within the city.</p>

Data from: Dispersal in a house sparrow metapopulation: an integrative case study of genetic assignment calibrated with ecological data and pedigree information

<p class="western">Dispersal has a crucial role determining eco-evolutionary dynamics through both gene flow and population size regulation. However, to study dispersal and its consequences, one must distinguish immigrants from residents. Dispersers can be identified using telemetry, capture-mark-recapture (CMR) methods, or genetic assignment methods. All of these methods have disadvantages, such as, high costs and substantial field efforts needed for telemetry and CMR surveys, and adequate genetic distance required in genetic assignment. In this study, we used genome-wide 200K Single Nucleotide Polymorphism data and two different genetic assignment approaches (GSI_SIM, Bayesian framework; BONE, network-based estimation) to identify the dispersers in a house sparrow (<i>Passer domesticus</i>) metapopulation sampled over 16 years. Our results showed higher assignment accuracy with BONE. Hence, we proceeded to diagnose potential sources of errors in the assignment results from the BONE method due to variation in levels of inter-population genetic differentiation, intra-population genetic variation and sample size. We show that assignment accuracy is high even at low levels of genetic differentiation and that it increases with the proportion of a population that has been sampled. Finally, we highlight that dispersal studies integrating both ecological and genetic data provide robust assessments of the dispersal patterns in natural populations.</p>

<p>The local field potential (LFP) of the dorsal hippocampus (CA1) and cortical amygdala (PMCo) of mice,&nbsp;under&nbsp;head-fix recording and inmersed on a virtual environtmernt.</p> <p><strong>Paper Abstract</strong>:&nbsp;<br> Vomeronasal information is critical in mice for territorial behavior. Consequently, learning the territorial spatial structure should incorporate the vomeronasal signals indicating individual identity into the hippocampal cognitive map. In this work we show in mice that navigating a virtual environment induces synchronic activity, with causality in both directionalities, between the vomeronasal amygdala and the dorsal CA1 of the hippocampus in the theta frequency range. The detection of urine stimuli induces synaptic plasticity in the vomeronasal pathway and the dorsal hippocampus, even in animals with experimentally induced anosmia. In the dorsal hippocampus, this plasticity is associated with the overexpression of pAKT and pGSK3&beta;. An amygdalo-entorhino-hippocampal circuit likely underlies this effect of pheromonal information on hippocampal learning. This circuit likely constitutes the neural substrate of territorial behavior in mice, and it allows the integration of social and spatial information.</p>

Tagging and tracking information for radiotagged Chinook Salmon in the Copper River, Alaska, 2019 and 2020.

<p>This is a 2 year data set that summarizes the information collected for a study funded by the Alaska Sustainable Salmon Fund (AKSSF), project number 52004. Data was collected on Chinook Salmon in the Copper River by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Sport Fish Division and the Native Village of Eyak. The data set includes the following information on Chinook Salmon:&nbsp; tagging date, radio tag frequency and code, length of fish, age of fish and then the date each fish passed a series of fixed tracking stations along the Copper River, expressed as Julian dates.
