Multipath aware Scheduling for High Reliability and Fault Tolerance in Low Power Industrial Networks

The Industrial Internet of Things is expected to enable the Industry 4.0 through the large deployment of low-
power devices. However, industrial applications require most of the time high reliability close to 100%, and
low end-to-end delays. Thus, most industrial wireless networks rely on a strict schedule of the transmissions
to avoid collisions, and implement frequency hopping to combat external interference. In multihop topologies,
the network has to decide both when the transmissions have to be scheduled, and which router can forward
the packets. To be fault-tolerant, multipath routing consists in exploiting several paths in parallel. We
exploit here a braided path routing structure, where each router has several possible next hops. Thus, we
can cope with any fault along the path, while still providing a remaining operational path. We propose
also a scheduling algorithm, where multiple transmitters are attached to a single cell, to the same receiver.
The schedule is constructed such that only one transmitter is active at a time, and is consequently collision-
free. Mutualizing the same cell for several transmitters reduces the energy consumption and increases the
network capacity.

Data set for "Influences on Reliable Capacity Measurements of Hard Carbon in Highly Loaded Electrodes"

C. Müller, Z. Wang, A. Hofmann, P. Stüble, X. Liu-Théato, J. Klemens, A. Smith, Batteries & Supercaps 2023, 6, e202300322. https://chemistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/batt.202300322

Abstract

For the development of a full-cell battery system, typically appropriate cathodes and anodes are characterized within a half-cell setup where a metal counter electrode is installed to gather data about the employed electrodes. Ultimately, the individual capacity loadings allow for suitable balancing of the anode to cathode capacity in the full-cell. This approach seems rather unproblematic for lithium-ion batteries. For sodium-ion batteries, however, we show that the high reactivity of sodium metal strongly influences hard carbon-based electrode measurements within sodium-ion half-cells. As hard carbon is considered state-of-the-art anode material, the presented results have high impact on the development of sodium ion batteries. Specifically, we show that the type of electrolyte, as well as cell- and measurement-setup are key factors for reliable sodium half-cell measurements of hard carbon. The investigated hard carbon electrodes have a high active material loading of 7.2 mg/cm2 (with 93 % active material content) resulting in an areal capacity of 2.4 mAh/cm2, which represent application-relevant conditions.

Funding

This work was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) under Germany's Excellence Strategy - EXC 2154 - Project number 390874152 (POLiS Cluster of Excellence), and contributes to the research performed at Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage Ulm Karlsruhe (CELEST). Data from: Can we identify genes with increased phylogenetic reliability?
Topological heterogeneity among gene trees is widely observed in phylogenomic analyses and some of this variation is likely caused by systematic error in gene tree estimation. Systematic error can be mitigated by improving models of sequence evolution to account for all evolutionary processes relevant to each gene or identifying those genes whose evolution best conforms to existing models. However, the best method for identifying such genes is not well established. Here, we ask if filtering genes according to their clock-likeness or posterior predictive effect size (PPES, an inference-based measure of model violation) improves phylogenetic reliability and congruence. We compared these approaches to each other, and to the common practice of filtering based on rate of evolution, using two different metrics. First, we compared gene-tree topologies to accepted reference topologies. Second, we examined topological similarity among gene trees in filtered sets. Our results suggest that filtering genes based on clock-likeness and PPES can yield a collection of genes with more reliable phylogenetic signal. For the two exemplar data sets we explored, from yeast and amniotes, clock-likeness and PPES outperformed rate-based filtering in both congruence and reliability.
