Data from: Numerical simulation of induced cutting in deep coal
Deep coal cutting is a hot research topic at present. In this paper, the cutting technology of three-drum shearer was proposed based on previous studies. Besides, the influence of confining pressure on coal cutting performance was studied by using the discrete element method, and the induction effect of central cutting on coal cutting performance was discussed. Moreover, coal cutting with different boundary conditions was simulated with the aid of PFC2D software. The results show that as the confining pressure increases, the model dominated by tensile failure does not change, but the crack gradually develops from the vertical direction to the free surface of coal. The cutting debris first increases and then decreases, so does the cutting force. Under the effect of central cutting, the crack tends to develop towards the free surface of coal more, and both the peak cutting force and the specific energy consumption increase with the increase of confining pressure. Induced by central cutting, with the increase of confining pressure, the reduction value of peak cutting force increases first and then decreases while the reduction value of cutting specific energy consumption increases.
Data from: Molecular mapping and candidate gene analysis for numerous spines on the fruit of cucumber
Number of spines on the fruit is an important quality trait in cucumber. The inheritance and identification of molecular markers for fruit spine density gene can provide a basis for breeding and lay the foundation for gene cloning. Cucumber inbred lines NCG-122 with numerous spines and NCG-121 with few spines were used for genetic analysis and gene mapping in this study. Genetic analysis showed that the numerous spines trait in NCG-122 was qualitative, and a single recessive nuclear gene (ns) controlled this trait. The few spines trait was dominant over the numerous spines trait. In the preliminary genetic mapping of the ns gene, 8 SSR markers were found to be linked to ns, which mapped to chromosome 2 (Chr.2) of cucumber. The closest flanking markers SSR22338 and SSR11596 were linked to the ns gene, with genetic distances of 10.2 and 1.7cM, respectively. One-hundred and thirty pairs of new SSR primers and 28 pairs of Indel primers were developed based on sequence information in the preliminary mapping region of ns. Fifteen SSR markers and 2 Indel markers were identified to be linked to the ns gene after analysis on the F2 mapping population using the new molecular markers. The 2 closest flanking markers, SSRns-127 and SSR04219, were 0.7 and 2.4 cM from ns, respectively. The physical distance between SSRns-127 and SSR04219 was 266.1kb, containing 27 predicted genes. Csa2G285390 was speculated as the probable candidate gene for numerous spines. The accuracy of the closest linked marker to the ns gene, SSRns-127, for MAS breeding was 95.0%.
Data from: Numerical cognition in honeybees enables addition and subtraction
Many animals understand numbers at a basic level for use in essential tasks such as foraging, shoaling, and resource management. However, complex arithmetic operations, such as addition and subtraction, using symbols and/or labeling have only been demonstrated in a limited number of nonhuman vertebrates. We show that honeybees, with a miniature brain, can learn to use blue and yellow as symbolic representations for addition or subtraction. In a free-flying environment, individual bees used this information to solve unfamiliar problems involving adding or subtracting one element from a group of elements. This display of numerosity requires bees to acquire long-term rules and use short-term working memory. Given that honeybees and humans are separated by over 400 million years of evolution, our findings suggest that advanced numerical cognition may be more accessible to nonhuman animals than previously suspected.

Mechanical data of rotary shear experiments, temperature measurements, and temperature numerical models for the manuscript: "Mechanical energy dissipation during seismic dynamic weakening in calcite-bearing faults"
<p>All data included in this data repository is ancillary to the manuscript "Energy dissipation during dynamic weakening in calcite-bearing fault rocks", submitted to Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth. </p><p>The data consists in time series of high velocity friction experiments run with SHIVA (INGV, Rome), time series acquired from a two-color pyrometer (UC3M), the synchronization of the two, and numerical models. The data format is .mat, proprietary to Matlab, but they can be easily accessed with Python (see <a href="https://docs.scipy.org/doc/scipy/reference/generated/scipy.io.loadmat.html">link</a>). Each .mat contains vector of the measured variables when opened from Matlab, or dictionaries when opened using the scipy.loadmat() function. </p><p>SHIVA and PYRO red data (calibrated data), fin data (synchronized data), and shivaRED vect data (numerical model data) are included in this data repository in separate folders. Numerical models are grouped in subfolder by type of model (the relation fin data to model is 1:n). We included the scripts to convert SHIVA raw data into SHIVA red data (<a href="https://github.com/aretu/shivaUNIX">link to shivaUNIX</a>), SHIVA and PYRO red data into fin data (/scripts/syncing2021.m), to obtain numerical models from fin data (<a href="https://github.com/aretu/shivaRED">link to shivaRED</a>), and to plot data (/scripts/making plots.ipynb).</p>

Lethal interactions among forest-grouse predators are numerous, motivated by hunger and carcasses, and their impacts determined by the demographic value of the victims
<p>New vertebrate communities are emerging in Europe following the recovery of multiple native predators to highly anthropized landscapes where predator control is still prevalent. While the lack of reference points for these communities creates novel challenges for conservationists and wildlife managers, they also provide opportunities to further our understanding of species interactions. Despite a growing body of evidence, many aspects of interactions among predators remain poorly understood, impairing our ability to anticipate the effects of such changes in predator communities. Through a systematic literature review, we gathered all the available evidence concerning the existence, strength, and demographic impacts of lethal predator interactions among forest grouse predators in Europe. We found a highly interconnected predator community, with 44 pairwise lethal interactions among 12 taxa. Three of these resulted in some degree of population suppression of the victim, while another three did not. However, most interactions (38) have not been evaluated for population suppression. Additionally, we highlight how predators interact simultaneously with a large range of other predators and identified at least two further species likely suppressed through the combined impacts of multiple predators. We propose that interactions causing demographic suppression are characterized by impacts on individuals with high survival elasticity, and that they are motivated by food limitation and additionally, in mammals, by competition for carcasses. Predator interactions, and our still poor understanding of them, introduce large uncertainties to conservation actions based on the management of predator abundances, which should be carefully evaluated.</p>
Data from: A multifactor coupling prediction model for the failure depth of floor rocks in fully mechanized caving mining: a numerical and in situ study
To study the mining-induced failure depth of floor rocks in a fully-mechanized mining caving field affected by different coal seam pitches, mining face lengths, burial depths and aquifer water pressures, multifactor coupled orthogonal numerical tests on the failure depth of floor rocks were conducted. The numerical results show that the failure depth of floor rocks increases with increasing mining face length, coal seam pitch and burial depth. According to the relationship between failure depth and these impact factors, a multifactor coupled prediction model for the failure depth of floor rocks was established. In addition, the in-situ measurement of the failure depth of floor rocks in the Yitang Coal Mine in Huoxi coal field in Shanxi Province, China, was performed, and the in-situ failure depths of floor rocks in the 100502 (80 m) and 100502 (180 m) mining faces were approximately 12.50~14.65 m and 17.50~19.20 m, in good agreement with the results of the multifactor prediction model. Furthermore, the sensitivity of each impact factor in the prediction model of the floor failure depth was further analysed by F-test and range analysis, and the impact order of studied factors on the floor failure depth is coal seam pitch>mining face length>burial depth>aquifer water pressure.
