The correlation between education levels and COVID-19 vaccination in Turkey

In this work, we investigated the correlation between education levels and COVID-19 vaccination in 36 cities in Turkey. We demonstrated if the percentage of people less educated than high school level increases, the percentage of unvaccinated people increases too. The correlation value between the percentage of people less educated than high school level and the percentage of unvaccinated people is 0.9198. The methods used are correlation matrix and linear regression.

Effectiveness of community-based health education and home support program to reduce blood pressure among patients with uncontrolled hypertension in Nepal: A cluster-randomized trial

Background: Hypertension is a major global public health problem. Elevated blood pressure can cause cardiovascular and kidney diseases. We assessed the effectiveness of health education sessions and home support programs in reducing blood pressure among patients with uncontrolled hypertension in a suburban community of Nepal.

Methods: We conducted a community-based, open-level, parallel-group, cluster randomized controlled trial in Birendranagar municipality of Surkhet, Nepal. We randomly assigned four clusters (wards) into intervention and control arms. We provided four health education sessions, frequent home and usual care for intervention groups over six months. The participants of the control arm received only usual care from health facilities. The primary outcome of this study was the proportion of controlled systolic blood pressure (SBP). The analysis included all participants who completed follow-up at six months.

Results: 125 participants were assigned to either the intervention (n=63) or the control (n=62) group. Of them, 60 participants in each group completed six months follow-up. The proportion of controlled SBP was significantly higher among the intervention participants compared to the control (58.3% vs. 40%). Odds ratio of this was 2.1 with 95% CI: 1.01-4.35 (p=0.046) and that of controlled diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was 1.31 (0.63-2.72) (p=0.600). The mean change (follow-up minus baseline) in SBP was significantly higher in the intervention than in the usual care (-18.7 mmHg vs. -11.2 mmHg, p=0.041). Such mean change of DBP was also higher in the intervention (-10.95 mmHg vs. -5.53 mmHg, p=0.065). The knowledge score on hypertension improved by 2.38 (SD 2.4) in the intervention arm, which was significantly different from that of the control group, 0.13 (1.8) (p<0.001).

Conclusions: Multiple health education sessions complemented by frequent household visits by health volunteers can effectively improve knowledge on hypertension and reduce blood pressure among uncontrolled hypertensive patients at the community level in Nepal.

Keywords: Hypertension; Blood pressure; Systolic Blood Pressure; Diastolic Blood Pressure; Cardiovascular disease; Health Education; Home Support

Trial Registration: ClinicalTrial.gov: NCT02981251

Dataset: Stunting and Its Association with Education and Cognitive Outcomes in Adulthood: A Longitudinal Study in Indonesia

Abstract

Stunting is associated with adverse outcomes in adulthood. This article specifically aims to analyse the relationship between childhood stunting and education as well as cognitive outcomes for adults in Indonesia. Pooled data from two waves of the Indonesia Family Life Survey in 1993 and 1997, identified 4851 children aged 0-5 by their stunting status as well as their relative height to be compared for their differences in educational outcomes and cognitive abilities in 2014. Height-for-age z-score was used to proxy relative height and determine stunting status based on 2006 WHO child’s growth standards. The outcomes for education and cognitive abilities include educational levels, years of schooling, age of school entry, failing a grade, and scores for cognitive tests. The study employs estimation models of pooled regressions and instrumental variables. Stunting and relatively small stature had a significant association with cognitive development, and they worked as an intermediary to cognitive developmental barriers manifested in reduced educational outcomes. A lack of one SD in height-for-age was associated with a 0.125-point reduction in education level, 0.4 years shortened length of the school, 6% higher chances of failing grades and dropouts from secondary school, and 0.19-0.24 SD lowered cognitive and numerical scores. Similarly, stunting tends to decrease cognitive test scores by 0.56-0.8 SD compared to non-stunting and reduce educational achievement by 0.38 points, 1.4 years shorter schooling, 17.7% and 23% more likely to fail grades. In addition, HAZ and stunting are also associated with the school entry age of 0.35 and 0.11 years, respectively.

Overcoming Challenges in DevOps Education through Teaching Methods

DevOps is a set of practices that deals with coordination between development and operation teams and ensures rapid and reliable new software releases that are essential in industry. DevOps education assumes the vital task of preparing new professionals in these practices using appropriate teaching methods. However, there are insufficient studies investigating teaching methods in DevOps. We performed an analysis based on interviews to identify teaching methods and their relationship with educational challenges. Our findings show that project-based learning and collaborative learning are emerging as the most relevant teaching methods.

Data from: Graduate health professions education programs as they choose to represent themselves: A website review

Introduction: In an age of increasingly face-to-face, blended, and online Health Professions Education, students have more selections of where they will receive a degree. For an applicant, oftentimes, the first step is to learn more about a program through its website. Websites allow programs to convey their unique voice and to share their mission and values with others, such as applicants, researchers, and academics. Additionally, as the number of Health Professions Education programs rapidly grows, websites can share the priorities of these programs.

Methods: In this study, we conducted a website review of 158 Health Professions Education websites to explore their geographical distributions, missions, educational concentrations, and various programmatic components.

Results: We compiled this information and synthesized pertinent aspects, such as program similarities and differences, or highlighted the omission of critical data.

Conclusion: Given that websites are often the first point of contact for prospective applicants, curious collaborators, and potential faculty, the digital image of HPE programs matters. We believe our findings demonstrate opportunities for growth within institutions and assist the field in identifying the priorities of HPE programs. As programs begin to shape their websites with more intentionality, they can reflect their relative divergence/convergence compared to other programs as they see fit and, therefore, attract individuals to best match this identity. Periodic reviews of the breadth of programs, such as those undergone here, are necessary to capture diversifying goals, and serve to help advance the field of Health Professions Education as a whole.

THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE IN THE XIX-TH CENTURY

The article deals with the process of education in the Russian Empire in the XIX-th century. It is shown that the leading trend in the development of education in post-Soviet Russia was the desire to revive various forms of education characteristic of society in the pre-October period, namely, the revival of gymnasiums, lyceums, various schools, cadet corps, etc. Modern Russia is trying to focus on humanistic values, movement towards the ideals of justice, morality and intelligence of the human person. The article focuses on the fact that education should be one of the ways to awaken the social mobility of the population. Today it is necessary to overcome the false stereotypes that have prevailed for many decades and expand the boundaries of historical knowledge, which is important not only for understanding the true place and role of the country in world history, but also for solving the practical problems of renewal, determining the prospects for moving forward to qualitatively new social economic and political decisions.
