Future changes in Tropical Cyclone activity due GhGs and the atmospheric effect of future aerosols
<p>This dataset compiles the output of selected fields of high resolutions E3SM experiments performed to decouple the effects of changes in GhGs and the atmospheric effect of future aerosols on the projected changes in tropical cyclone activity.</p> <p>The study describing these experiemnts was submitted to publication with the title "The Atmospheric Effect of Aerosols on Future Tropical Cyclone Frequency and Precipitation in the Energy Exascale Earth System Model"</p> <p>The full dataset is available at NERSC's HPSS. <p>The repository contains data used in "(Zhou et al. 2024) Back-to-back high category atmospheric river landfalls occur more often on the west coast of the United States". We included the landfall flags used for AR cluster identification. The landfall flags are generated using TECA-BARD AR detection on datasets including ERA5 reanalysis and CMIP5/6 simulaitons. <p>The present dataset contains all model data used in the model intercomparison in ACP. All data is provided as monthly means. For more data, please contact the first author. V2 addresses inconsistencies in the time axes, vertical coordinates, and variable names between models.</p>
Global Atmospheric Real-Time Analysis Product (ART)
<p><span>Global Atmospheric Real-Time Analysis Product (ART) is a three-dimensional atmospheric real-time product covering the globe, <span> generated by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) using a </span>four-dimensional ensemble variational assimilation method. It assimilates real-time collected conventional observations specific to the Chinese region and four major categories of 14 subcategories of conventional observations from global surface, upper-air, marine, aircraft reports, as well as satellite vertical detection radiance, infrared hyperspectral, occultation observations, atmospheric motion vectors, and ocean surface wind data. Upon verification and evaluation, the overall quality of this product is comparable to that of similar international products, with significantly better timeliness compared to foreign products. </span></p> <p><span>The ART includes real-time analysis products of global three-dimensional atmospheric temperature, humidity, wind, geopotential height, and other elements. It has a spatial resolution of 10km×10km, covering the entire globe, with a temporal resolution of 1 hour, and the product format is GRIB2.</span></p>

Northern and Southern Hemispheric regulation of atmospheric CO2 at millennial timescales
<p><span>Changes in deep-water ventilation and surface biogenic pump <span> </span>may have played a prominent role in the atmospheric C</span><span>O</span><sub><span>2</span></sub><span> variability. However, how these circulations and the biological pump have varied remains poorly understood, and further detailed analysis is needed, especially for interhemispheric comparison. Here, we present high-resolution proxy data on the variability of biological productivity, bottom water current speed, and upwelling changes for the abyssal northwestern Pacific Ocean spanning 20 to 60 kyr ago. We found that <span>enhanced surface productivity correlates with the timing of North Atlantic Heinrich Stadial and </span></span><span><span><span>interpret this as a result of a combination of increased nutrient supply to the euphotic zone and intensified westerly winds causing dust fertilization. </span></span></span><span>Based on our proxy data-model comparison, we infer enhanced deep-water ventilation in the Southern Ocean to drive <em>p</em>C</span><span>O<sub>2</sub></span><span> variability on millennial timescales in support of a bipolar carbon cycle seesaw between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. Overall, our findings demonstrate that deep ocean carbon storage and degassing are modulated by atmosphere and ocean ventilation through the nonlinear interplay of the two hemispheres.</span></p>

Emission and Deposition of Atmospheric Dust from Continental Shelf of the East China Sea: Evidence from Shengshan Island Loess

Atmospheric pollutant concentrations and leaf chemistry variables collected along gradients of median household income and traffic density in Salt Lake Valley, UT
<p>We utilize traffic density and <i>Convolvulus arvensis </i>leaf chemistry<i> </i>to understand spatial patterns linking atmospheric pollution and household income in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, USA. We hypothesize that traffic density will explain variation in atmospheric NO<sub>x</sub> and O<sub>3</sub> concentrations. In addition, we expect foliar <span>%N and nitrogen isotope ratios (</span>δ<sup>15</sup>N) to be elevated and carbon isotope ratios (δ<sup>13</sup>C) to be depleted on high traffic density roads<span>. These hypotheses were supported: we found the</span><span> highest</span><span> NO<sub>x</sub> and lowest O<sub>3</sub> concentrations on high-traffic density roads. Also, NO<sub>x</sub> concentrations were higher in low-income neighborhoods. Low-income neighborhoods contained a greater density of high-traffic roads than high-income neighborhoods. Foliar %N was highest in low-income neighborhoods and was correlated with NO<sub>x</sub> and O<sub>3</sub></span>, while δ<sup>15</sup>N was more depleted with increasing O<sub>3</sub>. These findings indicate that the distribution of high-traffic density roads plays a significant role in inequities in pollution exposure between high- and low-income neighborhoods, which is reflected in leaf chemistry.</p>
