Molding Machine Free Access Data
<p>The dataset above was constructed via an A K85 injection molding machine from Ferromatik Milacron. The machine contains three adjustable process parameters that can be considered configurable variables. These three variables are the mold temperature, the 2nd pressure value, and the 2nd pressure time of the compaction process. Several combinations of these variables were tested. For each combination of the variables, ten tests were carried out to ensure the stabilization of the process, with only the pressure and temperature data from these tests being acquired. Two sensors, a temperature sensor and a pressure sensor, have been installed and localized on the mold to measure the mold temperature and pressure. For selecting an optimal localization of the aforementioned two sensors, first a study of the temperature distribution and the pressure effect within the mold was carried out, and after detecting the best localization, two sensors were installed in the selected spots. The pressure and temperature sensors to be used are the Priamus 6001B and a type K thermonuclear, respectively.</p>

GEOLAB - Transnational Access project JELLYFISh - Field testing of Medusa DMT
<p>The project <strong>JELLYFISh</strong> <em>(<strong>A Just-released innovativE in-situ soiL testing technoLogY (Medusa DMT/SDMT) For enhancing the resilience of the critical InfraStructure in Europe</strong></em><em>)</em> aims to contribute to the advancement of knowledge on geotechnical characterization of soil deposits commonly encountered in risk-sensitive areas (intermediate soils, soft clays, quick clays, loose sands), often associated to multiple geo-hazards that may negatively interact with CI networks. Improvements in geotechnical approaches to analysis and mitigation of such hazards, in order to increase the resilience of the CI, rely significantly on enhanced characterization of soil behaviour.</p> <p> </p> <p>The methodology employed for this purpose is the innovative Medusa (S)DMT in-situ soil testing technology. The research project is based on an extensive experimental in-situ testing program with Medusa (S)DMT in different soil types at benchmark Geo-Test Sites (NGTS), part of the research infrastructure managed by the NGI. A comprehensive high-quality soil database, including data from field and laboratory tests, published articles and reports, is available from NGI. The sites (target soil types) that were recognized of specific interest for this project are Halden (silt), Onsøy (soft clay), Tiller-Flotten (quick clay), and Øysand (sand).</p> <p>The project benefits from the collaboration of users from industry and academia, making use of the access to the GEOLAB facility to test and implement new technology solutions. The relevant Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the project is in the group (TRL4-7), pertaining to technology development of solutions to enhance the resilience of the CI.</p> <p> </p> <p>The main objectives of the project and their significance in terms of innovation / advancement of knowledge are:</p> <ul> <li>Innovative approach for characterizing the in-situ behaviour of intermediate soils by Medusa DMT tests at variable pressurization/penetration rates, in combination with available data from variable-rate CPTU tests.</li> </ul> <ul> <li>Advancement in soil property characterization of soft clay deposits by innovative in-situ testing procedures (e.g., in-situ horizontal stress / coefficient of earth pressure at rest <em>K</em><sub>0</sub> from continuous measurement of total horizontal pressure during Medusa DMT penetration).</li> <li>Novel approach for mapping quick clay layers by innovative in-situ testing procedures (continuous measurement of total horizontal pressure during Medusa DMT penetration).</li> <li>Improvement of DMT interpretation in sand, including the investigation of the effect of fines content and partial drainage (to be introduced into DMT-based simplified methods for liquefaction assessment).</li> </ul>

Survey data from: Can community laboratory facilities increase access and inclusivity in geoscience?
<p>Geochronology and geochemistry are critical tools in geoscience research and research training, but students and faculty at many institutions have little or no access to the specialized and expensive facilities needed for sample preparation and analysis. Here, we assess whether community laboratories, dedicated to hosting visitors, can help address these inequities by increasing access to cutting-edge methods and the resulting data. We report the first three years of outcomes from such a community laboratory, the goal of which is to improve access, equity, and diversity in geoscience by making an increasingly important analytical technique more widely available. Although the community sample preparation facility we describe here focuses on the cosmogenic nuclides <sup>10</sup>Be and <sup>26</sup>Al, the model we present is viable across the geosciences. Three years of development, assessment, and refinement demonstrate that the community laboratory model shows promise for including a greater diversity of users and applications. However, challenges to fostering a diverse community still exist; the costs of supplies, isotopic analysis, and travel to the community facility are roadblocks to diversification. Our experience suggests that supporting more community laboratory facilities could be an important and efficient way to further diversify the geosciences, both in terms of the people involved and the types of research performed.</p>
African wild dog access to kills
<p>Patterns of food sharing in collectively hunting species are likely to influence social dynamics and evolution. Despite this, little is known about competition within social groups at carcasses and other food sources, making the social drivers and implications of food sharing difficult to assess. We quantified carcass access and feeding behavior in free-ranging African wild dogs, <i>Lycaon pictus</i>, at natural kill sites, confirming and quantifying previous descriptions of a youngest-feed-first system. Using data on feeding duration and latency to feed, we confirm that the position in the feeding queue (PFQ) runs from youngest to oldest, except the dominant pair, which generally feed after the pups. We found some evidence that older subdominants were more likely to participate in kills, perhaps because they may only gain access to carcasses at the most profitable early stages of consumption if they make the kill themselves. These dogs were no more likely to initiate hunts or sustain probable hunting-related injuries than were younger dogs with better access. We suggest that allowing younger animals uncontested access to food they have not caught themselves may be an extension of helping behaviour prioritizing those least able to catch food themselves, and that this system may provide anti-kleptoparasitism benefits. Our results contribute to the discussion on the functions and importance of food sharing more broadly.</p>

<p>Digital research materials of NMR spectral data for the article "[3+2]-Cycloaddition of azomethine ylides to 5-methylidene-3-aryl-2-сhalcogen-imidazolones: access to dispiro indolinone-pyrrolidine-imidazolones" submitted to the <em>Royal Society Open Science. </em>NMR spectra were recorded on Bruker Avance 400 and Agilent MR-400 spectrometers in DMSO-d<sub>6</sub> and C<sub>6</sub>D<sub>6</sub>. Chemical shifts were measured relative to residual solvent signals and referenced in parts per million to TMS. Original fid files are presented, which can be opened, for example, using the ASD Labs software package.</p>

Allele-specific chromatin accessibility for 23 cancer types and weight files for Regulome Wide Association-Studies (RWAS)

The analyses identified allelically imbalanced genomic regions from 406 cancer ATAC-Seq samples. Instructions on how to use FUSION for RWAS can be found at http://gusevlab.org/projects/fusion/. RWAS is conducted in the same manner as TWAS using these RWAS weights.</p> <p>The weight files were generated using a pan-cancer peak set. A BED file containing pan-cancer peaks can be found in the peaks_hg19 folder along with other BED files containing cancer-type specific peaks. Data for: Abundance and accessibility of forage for reindeer in forests of Northern Sweden: impacts of landscape and winter climate regime
<p>The survival of reindeer during winter, their period of greatest food stress, is largely dependent upon the abundance and accessibility of food in their pastures. In Northern Sweden this realised availability of forage is notably affected by snow conditions and the impacts of forestry on understorey in these pastures. Whilst these factors have been examined to some extent in isolation, their combined effect on overall forage availability has, to the best of our knowledge to date, not been studied.</p> <p>In this study, vegetation surveys and analysis of snow conditions were undertaken in 16 forest stands at various stages of recovery from clear-cutting. The variation in abundance and growth of understorey species edible by reindeer, such as lichen, were noted as forest age increased. The barrier effect of ice lenses in snow during winter was also noted. Lichen biomass was significantly affected by a combination of stand age, understorey vegetation height, and lichen height. Soil disturbance from the processes of felling, and competition in the vegetation communities recovering from this disturbance were identified as key drivers of change in lichen biomass. Overall, clear-cut forests had some of the greatest prevalence of ice lenses in the snow column, and forage availability at these sites was up to 61 % less than in stands over 58 years in age.</p>
