<p>Environmental data and results of an experiment conducted in the vicinity of the R&iacute;o de la Plata Estuary (Argentina), aimed at assessing the influence of the invasive mussel <em>Limnoperna fortunei</em> on sediment properties and accumulation rates. In the experiment, eighteen 20 L flow-through experimental units with and without mussels were used monitoring where changes in the mass and characteristics of the sediments accumulated throughout a yearly cycle in monthly, biannual and annual intervals.</p>

Alite-Belite-Ye'elimite cements: effect of dopants on the clinker composition and properties

<p><strong>ABSTRACT:</strong> Clinkers with alite-belite-ye&acute;elimite (ABY) are considered as eco-friendly cements. Clinkering (2 Kg) of two types of ABY clinkers was optimized: standard-ABY, with CaF<sub>2</sub> and ZnO as dopants (32.6 wt% alite, 30.4 wt% b-belite and 15.6 wt% ye&#39;elimite) and &alpha;ABY, with CaF<sub>2</sub>, ZnO, B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, Na<sub>2</sub>O (14.4 wt% alite, 37.1 wt% b-belite, 18.5 wt% &alpha;&#39;<sub>H</sub>-belite and 7.5 wt% ye&#39;elimite). Zn and F&nbsp;were mainly incorporated in alite and ferrite, while S sulfur was mostly incorporated into Fluor-ellestadite, ye&rsquo;elimite and, in lower percentages, in belite and ferrite, determined by EDS semi-quantitative. The effect of dopants on the hydration of the cement mortars has been tested. Thus, standard-ABY develops 29.9 MPa compressive strengths at 1 day while &alpha;ABY does 16.8 MPa, mainly due to the higher amount of alite of the former. The presence of &alpha;&rsquo;<sub>H</sub>-belite in &alpha;ABY increases mechanical strengths at 28 days of hydration from 44.7 MPa of standard-ABY to 74.9 MPa.</p>

Properties of negative initial leaders and lightning flash size in a cluster of supercells

<p>It is the figure data of the paper titled as &quot;Properties of negative initial leaders and lightning flash size in a cluster of supercells&quot;. The abstract of this paper is as follows:</p> <p>Properties of negative initial leaders (NILs) and flash size in a cluster of supercells with generally inverted charge structure in Oklahoma on 10 &minus; 11 May 2010 are examined, primarily using Lightning Mapping Array data. A method to identify NILs from LMA source is proposed, and helps to reveal the multiple NILs properties and their distributions. The NILs in the supercell cluster have smaller speed (median 3D displacement speed: 0.65 &times; 10<sup>5</sup> m s<sup>&minus;1</sup>), relative to the previous reports in &ldquo;normal&rdquo; thunderstorms. Furthermore, median NIL speeds initially decrease with increasing height, but begin increasing above 12 km. The NILs tend to decelerate during the early stage. The parameters characterizing flash duration and spatial size are also investigated. It is found they all follow lognormal distributions and the spatial flash size is relatively small on average (median horizontal distance: 5.54 km). Most flashes (83.18%) extend primarily in the horizontal direction. Flash area shows an inverse relationship with flash density at their fast changes during storm evolution. Although large flash initiation density (FID) generally occurs in regions with small flash size, the smallest flash size is nearly not collocated with large FID value. In the regions with large FID, average flash duration roughly increases with increasing FID, while average flash area changes little. We proposed that the pattern of charge pockets and variation of charge density dominated by the strong kinematics are responsible for some new findings about the properties of NIL and flash size in the supercell cluster.</p>

Replication data for Evaluation of movements with greater trunk acceleration and their properties during volleyball games

<p>The present study aimed to elucidate the movements that require greater trunk acceleration and their frequency during volleyball matches and compare their acceleration components. A triaxial accelerometer was used to measure trunk acceleration during volleyball matches. The moments that generated resultant accelerations &gt;4G, &gt;5G and &gt;6G were extracted, and movements that coincided with the extracted moments were identified. The ratios and frequencies of the extracted movements were calculated, and the resultant, mediolateral, vertical and anteroposterior accelerations among the top seven volleyball-specific extracted movements were compared. For attackers, 361, 185 and 97 movements were extracted with acceleration thresholds of 4G, 5G and 6G, respectively. At 6G, landing (77%) was the most frequently observed movement. For receivers, 297, 115 and 38 movements were extracted with acceleration thresholds of 4G, 5G and 6G, respectively. At 4G, running (49%) and steps (31%) were the most frequently observed movements. Resultant and vertical accelerations of spike landing were significantly greater than those of the other six movements (p &lt; 0.001, respectively). Stationary or directional steps observed in receivers showed greater anteroposterior acceleration. Frequency or magnitude of trunk acceleration during these movements might determine the risk of injury during volleyball.</p>

Initial leader properties during the preliminary breakdown processes of lightning flashes and their associations with initiation positions

<p>It is the dataset assocaited with the figures in the paper titled &quot;Initial leader properties during the preliminary breakdown processes of lightning flashes and their associations with initiation positions&quot; which was&nbsp;submitted to the Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres for publication. It can be accessed using Matlab. The abstract of the manuscript is as follows.</p> <p>The properties of initial leaders (ILs) of 1056 flashes in two thunderstorms in Guangzhou, China, are analyzed. The median values of IL properties are 11.1 ms for duration, 2.2 km for vertical distance, 2.7 km for 3-D distance, 1.9 &times; 10<sup>5</sup> m s<sup>&minus;1</sup> for vertical speed, 2.4 &times; 10<sup>5</sup> m s<sup>&minus;1</sup> for 3-D speed, 28&deg; for angle between the IL&rsquo;s displacement direction and the vertical direction, 1.1 per ms for pulse rate, 179 m for vertical step length and 224 m for 3-D step length. All the IL properties follow lognormal distributions. Strong monotonic relationships of IL duration with speed and pulse rate and pulse rate with speed and step length are revealed. With increasing initiation altitude, IL duration and step length tend to increase, and IL speed and pulse rate tend to decrease. The ILs initiated at approximately the &minus;20 ℃ isotherm are more vertically orientated on average than those initiated at lower or higher levels. The ILs initiated in the strong kinematic areas generally had a greater speed and pulse rate but smaller duration, distance and step length relative to those initiated in the weak kinematic areas. The possible impacts of the charge distribution patterns and density on the IL properties in different types of thunderstorms or thunderstorm areas are discussed.</p>

Impacts of Moisture on Asphalt Properties

<p>Corresponding data set for Tran-SET Project No. 17BASU03. Abstract of the final report is stated below for reference:</p> <p>&quot;Stripping related moisture damage has been recognized as one of the major pavement distresses since the early 1990s. The main objective of this study is to establish an effective test protocol to quantify moisture susceptibility of asphalt pavements. To this end, selective test methods (Texas Boiling test, Tensile Strength Ratio, Retained Stability, and Hamburg Wheel Test), and procedures based on surface chemistries and molecular-level mechanistic properties have been investigated in this study. Firstly, a comprehensive list of literature related to moisture damage in asphalts was reviewed. Based on the literature review, a detailed project plan and test matrix were developed. Binder samples originated from two different crude sources were collected. The moisture resistance related tests such as static contact angle measurements and Texas Boiling tests were conducted. Besides, asphalt binders&rsquo; nanomechanical properties using an Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and surface chemistries using a static contact were evaluated in the laboratory. Based on limited test data and analysis, it is concluded that there does not exist any single test method that all agencies are comfortable and equipped to follow in their daily work as each technique has some merits and demerits. However, the Texas Boiling test is found to be the simplest method that requires minimal time and resources. On the other hand, surface chemistry and atomic force microscope-based techniques are becoming popular among researchers and pavement professionals. Findings of this study are expected to help ARDOT in selecting an appropriate moisture resistance test method that is simple, reliable, and easy to implement in their routine work.&quot;</p>
