Carbon data for: Evidence for the Multiple Benefits of Wetland Conservation in North America

These data were synthesized as part of a rapid evidence assessment of the scientific literature on a wide range of benefits associated with wetland conservation and restoration. Our synthesis emphasized data from North America and especially the United States, although many of the high priority meta-analyses and reviews we incorporated were global in scope. The data in these files represent a range of metrics related to carbon sequestration, storage, or flux compiled from multiple sources for the purposes of summarizing the range of observed values and how they vary across wetland classes or by restoration status. For more detail on the synthesis methods and each set of metrics, please see the full report:

Conlisk E, Chamberlin L, Vernon M, Dybala KE. 2022. Evidence for the Multiple Benefits of Wetland Conservation in North America: Carbon, Biodiversity, and Beyond. DeepRainForest Output Data : Simulated daily rainfall output (2001-2020) under observed tree cover and no deforestation scenarios in South America

This dataset deposited contains simulation data related to the analysis of forest-rainfall relationships and the impact of historical deforestation on rainfall patterns in South America. The data includes outputs from a spatiotemporal neural network model, DeepRainForest, developed to simulate rainfall based on vegetation and climate inputs in South America. This dataset is the data necessary to recreate the figures that appear in an accepted (but yet to be published manuscript) in Global Change Biology titled "Assessing the impact of past and ongoing deforestation on rainfall patterns in South America". When the manuscript is accepted then the article will be linked from here.

DeepRainForest_daily_rainfall_with_observed_treecover.nc: contains simulated daily rainfall data spanning from 2001 to 2020, considering the observed tree cover.

DeepRainForest_daily_rainfall_with_2000_treecover.nc: contains simulated daily rainfall output for the same time period (2001-2020) but assumes no deforestation from 2000 onwards.

DeepRainForest_daily_rainfall_with_1982_treecover.nc:contains simulated daily rainfall output for the same time period (2001-2020) but assumes no deforestation from 1982 onwards.

Data for "A New Year-Round Weather Regime Classification for North America"

This dataset supports the work presented in "A New Year-Round Weather Regime Classification for North America" by Lee et al. (2023), published in Journal of Climate: https://doi.org/10.1175/JCLI-D-23-0214.1

The dataset includes the Z500 climatology and anomalies, the EOFs/PCs, and the parameters required to attribute each day to a regime, alongside the regimes as assigned over 1979-2022 (time series in netCDF and csv formats). In addition, we also supply the standardized projection of each day onto the cluster-mean normalized Z500 anomalies for each regime, termed the Weather Regime Index (WRI).
