Ultrasonic Pulse Transmission Tests: Datasets - Test Series 4, Cement Paste at Early Stages
<p>The test series was created to receive information about the impact of the behaviour of the piezoelectric shear wave sensor on the measurement results of ultrasonic transmission tests performed on cement pastes at early stages. The approach for the test series was to vary the parameters water-cement-ratio and pulse-width. This results in a two-dimensional test parameter grid (water-cement-ratio versus pulse-width). Tests were performed for each grid point in order to receive information needed to optimize the pulse width for the shear wave sensors, but also a possible dependency between material behaviour and pulse-width. The materials tested were blends from ordinary Portland cement and tap water. The test methods used were ultrasonic pulse transmission method with combined compression- and shear wave measurements, gravimetric density tests (fresh paste density, solid specimen density) and hydration temperature tests. All test data and metadata are summarized into datasets using GNU Octave's open binary file format.</p>

Global database of cement production assets and upstream suppliers
<div> <div> <div> <div> <p>Cement producers and their investors are navigating evolving risks and opportunities as the sector's climate and sustainability implications become more prominent. While many companies now disclose greenhouse gas emissions, the majority offrom carbon-intensive industries appear to delegate emissions to less efficient suppliers. Recognizing this, we underscore the necessity for a globally consolidated asset-level dataset, which acknowledges production inputs provenance. Our approach not only consolidates data from established sources like development banks and governments but innovatively integrates the age of plants and the sourcing patterns of raw materials as two foundational variables of the asset-level data. These variables are instrumental in modeling cement production utilization rates, which in turn, critically influence a company's greenhouse emissions. Our method successfully combines geospatial computer vision and Large Language Modelling techniques to ensure a comprehensive and holistic understanding of global cement production dynamics.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div>
Data from: Comparative genomics reveals the dynamic evolutionary history of cement protein genes of barnacles from intertidal to deep-sea hydrothermal vents
<p><span>Thoracican barnacles are a diverse group of marine organisms for which the availability of genome assemblies is currently limited. In this study, we sequenced the genomes of two neolepadoid species </span><span>(<em>Ashinkailepas kermadecensis</em>,<em> Imbricaverruca yamaguchii</em>) </span><span>from hydrothermal vents, in addition to two intertidal species. Genome sizes ranged from 481.5 to 1054.6 Mb, with repetitive sequence contents of 21.2 to 50.7%. Concordance rates of orthologs and heterozygosity ratios were between 82.4 and 91.7% and between 1.1 and 2.6, respectively, indicating high genetic diversity and heterozygosity. Based on phylogenomic analyses, we revised the nomenclature of cement genes encoding cement proteins that are not homologous to any known proteins. The major cement gene, <em>CP100A</em>, was found in all thoracican species, including vent-associated neolepadoids, and was hypothesized to be essential for thoracican settlement. Duplicated genes, <em>CP100B</em> and <em>CP100C</em>, were found only in balanids, suggesting potential functional redundancy or acquisition of new functions associated with the calcareous base. An ancestor of <em>CP52 </em>genes was duplicated dynamically among lepadids, pollicipedids with multiple copies on a single scaffold, and balanids with multiple sequential repeats of the conserved regions, but no <em>CP52</em> genes were found in neolepadoids, providing insights into cement gene evolution among thoracican lineages. This study enhances our understanding of the adhesion mechanisms of thoracicans in underwater environments. The newly sequenced genomes provide opportunities for studying their evolution and ecology, shedding light on their adaptation to diverse marine environments, and contributing to our knowledge of barnacle biology with valuable genomic resources for further studies in this field.</span></p>

<p>This record is the dataset for Figures 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 in the journal article "Sorption, anomalous water transport and dynamic porosity in cement paste: A spatially localised 1H NMR relaxation study and a proposed mechanism" published in Cement and Concrete Research, Volume 133, July 2020, 106045, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cemconres.2020.106045.</p> <p>Abstract: The link between anomalous water sorption and dynamic porosity in cement pastes is explored using spatially resolved GARField1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation analysis. A model is developed in which the effective capillary diffusion coefficient is dependent on the instantaneous pore size distribution. This and earlier data show changes in pore size distribution resultant from changes in saturation that do not occur instantaneously with changes in degree of saturation. Therefore, it is assumed that the pore size distribution is always relaxing exponentially towards a (saturation dependent) equilibrium. It follows that the diffusivity is sample history (i.e. time) dependent as well as saturation dependent. This is sufficient to explain anomalies in rapid capillary water sorption. The same concepts are applied to slow drying. In this case, porosity changes occur on a timescale much shorter than drying so the system is always in dynamic equilibrium and anomalies are therefore not seen.</p>
