Educational and Career Trajectories in Russia: Open Datasets
<p>The datasets contain data retrieved from the “Jobs in Russia portal”. The datasets contain information about the education, work experience, desired salary and some demographic characteristics of candidates who posted their CVs on the portal between 2015 and 2023. The datasets cover 83 regions of Russia. Dataset 1 contains information on the education and career trajectories (N=6221439), while Dataset 2 contains the information about the general activity of unemployed and job seeking candidates (N=7662089). Each candidate has a unique ID and there are characteristics such as age, education type, region, working experience. The datasets are available as .csv files. </p> <p>Dataset 1 is designed to study educational and career trajectories. It was obtained by aggregating all CVs for each candidate into a single record with a unique id_candidate, then normalizing text information about the candidates' work experience and education, and finally excluding records that do not contain required information. </p> <p>Dataset 2 includes all records for the available period, but only covers general information and the activity metric. Gamification of Student Development Projects in Software Engineering Education - Master's Thesis Dataset
<p>This dataset contains all questionnaire results of the Master's Thesis <em>Gamification of Student Development Projects in Software Engineering Education</em>. The thesis will be linked to this set as soon as it is completed and publically available.</p> <p>In total, five questionnaires were conducted. To analyze users and requirements, a questionnaire with students and project supervisors was conducted. The implemented tool was evaluated using a pre-, mid-, and post-study questionnaire. This dataset contains a folder for each questionnaire including results in CSV format, results in HTML format, which is more human readable, and the questionnaire in PDF format. Due to the used survey tool, <em>lamapoll</em>, some parts of the files are in German. However, the questions and responses are all in English.</p> <p>Additionally, the scripts folder contains the Python scripts that were used to produce the graphics of the thesis. The Python libraries <code>matplotlib</code>, <code>pandas</code>, <code>scipy</code>, <code>numpy</code>, and <code>plot_likert</code> are required to run the scripts. Some of them use the two provided files <code>evalutation_concat_raw_excel.csv</code>, which is a concatenation of the results of the three evaluation questionnaires, and <code>sprint_stats.csv</code>, which contains statistics of the sprints relevant to the user study.</p>
Is there a social life in Open Data? Open datasets exploring practices in Educational Technology Research
<p>In the landscape of Open Science, Open Data [OD] plays a crucial role as data are one of the most basic components of research despite their diverse formats across scientific disciplines. Opening up data is a recent concern for policy makers and researchers as the basis for good open science practices. The common factor underlying these new practices – the relevance of promoting open data circulation and reuse – is mostly a social form of knowledge sharing and construction. However, while data sharing is being strongly promoted by policy making and is becoming a frequent practice in some disciplinary fields, open data sharing is much less developed in social sciences and in educational research.</p> <p>The Open Data hereby introduced is composed of two integrated datasets which collect data relating practices of Open Data publication and sharing in the field of Educational Thecnologies. This data was collected to suport the aim of investigating open data sharing in a selection of open data repositories as well as in the academic social network site ResearchGate.</p> <p>The research questions addressing this study are:</p> <ol> <li>Do researchers in the field of Educational Technology publish Open Datasets [ODs]?</li> <li>To which extent are ODs compliant with the FAIR data principles?</li> <li>What is the social life relating to the ODs in terms of the metrics provided by the OD portals? As a subsidiary question: 3.a- To what extent do open data portals allow researchers to cultivate social practices around OD?</li> </ol> <p> </p> <p>In order to investigate OD presence in ResearchGate, the following research aim guided the second part of the study: Analysis of the presence of the same selected OD in ResearchGate and of the type of social activity OD exhibited by OD according to ResearchGate mètrics.</p> <p>The Open Data here presented is composed by two datasets.</p> <ol> <li>23 datasets extracted out from 82 randomly selected datasets, from an inital total of 633. The data set presents a Codebook explaining the several categories of analysis or variables and the values assigned to the same. Since the analysis was performed in two phases (first selection and screening, second selection and classification) the codebook is divided in two tables. Moreover, the data set contains 6 Worksheets, ordered taking the workflow as reference: Codebook, Dataset_Extraction, Analysis_Workflow, Selected_Analysis. This dataset has been produced and curated by J.E.Raffaghelli</li> <li>The analysis of correspondance for the 23 datasets in ResearchGate. The data set presents a Codebook, and is divided into two worksheets: Codebook, ODT&RG. The last worksheet introduces the comparison between the social mètrics within RG of the found datasets and the relating papers. This dataset has been produced and curated by S. Manca and J.E. Environmental Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic Dataset
<p>Data files that support the capstone thesis <em>Environmental Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic</em> by Margaret Janz.</p> <p> </p> <p>The COVID-19 pandemic that hit the United States in March 2020 quickly caused the entire nation to rethink how we work and how we approach education. Informal environmental education in particular faced unique challenges during this time yet found ways to adapt their educational programming. This thesis will explore the questions: How did organizations alter and adapt their programming to meet public health guidelines during the pandemic? and What successes and challenges did organizations face in offering these programs? To answer these questions, a survey was distributed to organizations that offer environmental education programs. Results echo and expand on the existing literature on pandemic education. Organizations offered many virtual programs both synchronously and asynchronously and also found new ways to offer in person events. Programs that involved some interaction with other people and those that took place in person or outdoors were most successful, while asynchronous virtual materials were considered less so. Organizations faced many challenges in offering programming including financial barriers, technology troubles, and difficulty staying current on public health recommendations. Despite the difficulties and learning losses, respondents felt there may have been some benefits to the changes in their programming and many will continue to offer their adapted programs in the future.</p>
DIALLS Dataset of evaluations of Open Educational Resources – The Cultural Literacy Learning Programme resources
<p>This dataset was used to support the development of the DIALLS project’s (Dialogue and Argumentation for cultural Literacy Learning in Schools, www.dialls2020.eu/) teaching and learning materials as open access online educational resources (OER). It consists of quantitative data (i) evaluating the three OER (i.e., professional development (PD) materials, lesson plans (LP), Scale of Progression for Cultural Literacy Learning (SPCLL)) and (ii) assessing the discussion forum as a platform for building a DIALLS community of practice. <em> N</em> = 140 teachers from Germany, UK, Portugal, and Israel participated in the surveys over the course of six months (September 2020 to February 2021). </p> <p>For each country, there are four datasets from the surveys. For data collection, the surveys have been translated into the partner countries’ language, open feedback is translated from the respective languages and now in English (i.e., Translation from German, English, Portuguese, Hebrew). </p> <p>Based on Kirkpatrick and Kirkpatrick’s (2006) evaluation model and the Value Creation Framework (VCF) (Wenger et al., 2011), the surveys have been developed and the discussion forum designed. From this, items regarding the materials’ application, content, design, and value were included in the assessment of the quality of PD materials, lesson plans, and SPCLL. The quality of the discussion forum was assessed regarding its motivation, participation, topic, and value. </p> <p>Considering the context, the dataset is relevant to the following areas of research: Communities of Practice, OER, Teachers’ professional development. </p> <p>The dataset is organised in 1 file (merged quantitative data from all four surveys and all four partners). A detailed description of the dataset can be accessed in a PDF file. Further, the provided codebook in the "variable view window" in SPSS explains the variables and values. </p>
Education Services for the Deaf and Blind of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (ESDB dataset)
<p>The second dataset used in this study was collected by our group jointly with the Education Services for the Deaf and Blind (ESDB) of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction under IRB 14046 of NC State University. For the ESDB data, the 14 sessions collected were grouped into pairs to ease a granular analysis, hence ending with 7 sessions. The characteristics of each dataset can be found in website.</p>

Dataset of ICITS'24 - article "Ethics and AI in Higher Education: A Study on Students' Perceptions"
<p>This dataset encompasses responses from first-year undergraduate students enrolled in an ICT program at Fluminense Federal University. The survey was completed by 61 students via an online platform between June 28th and July 4th, 2023. The findings were subsequently published in an article titled "<strong>Ethics and AI in Higher Education: A Study on Students' Perceptions</strong>" presented at the ICITS'24 conference.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Article abstract</strong>:This initial study investigates the complex ethical concerns surrounding the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, with a particular focus on undergraduate students' perceptions of AI tools in their academic efforts. A notable issue is the educational application of these tools, coupled with a pressing need for comprehensive public policies that ensure ethics and privacy are protected. Through qualitative research involving 61 students in an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) course, we explored the teaching of ethics related to the use of AI tools in an academic context. Our findings reveal a tendency among students to favor commercial AI tools that are not tailored for educational use, pointing to a potential shortfall in the educational AI domain. This study underscores the importance of promoting critical thinking and the responsible use of AI tools in academic settings. However, it is crucial to conduct further research with university students and instructors to refine and improve educational frameworks utilizing AI tools.</p>

<p>In May-June 2021 SPARC Europe ran a survey among academic librarians in Europe.
