Model data created by MANDIFORE using ED2 simulating structure and biomass under harvest legacies and climate change as the Morton Arboretum, IL, USA, 2007-2099"
The data in this archive was used to investigate the long-term impacts of harvest-based management strategies on structure and resistance to climate-induced biomass loss using a process-based ecosystem model and an ensemble of climate change drivers in a midwestern USA hardwood forest. The model used was a modified version of the Ecosystem Demography model version 2.1 (ED2) where trees could be grouped based on plant functional type and size allowing for different management regimes to be simulated. The simulation site was an actively managed mid-continental North American temperate deciduous forest at The Morton Arboretum (TMA) near Chicago, USA. The initial conditions (composition and structure) of the forest simulated were initialized using field survey data from 487, 8.92-m radius plots collected in 2018. Different levels of tree removal based on traditional forestry management techniques for temperate deciduous forests were simulated and evaluated for their effects on forest structure and resistance to drought induced mortality for the period of 2006 to 2100. Model initialization and spin up occurred from 2006-2020 at which point management was simulated for the period of 2020-2024 before running without management for 2024 to 2100. Fourteen CMIP5 GCMs were used for meteorological drivers for 2006 to 2100 for both RCP4.5 and RCP 8.5 warming scenarios. CO2 concentration was held constant at 380 ppm over the simulation period. Four management regimes were simulated for each of these GCM-RCP pairings leading to a total of 112 distinct model runs. The four management regimes were group selection, shelterwood, understory thinning and an additional no management scenario served as a control. Data in this archived is separated into the 112 distinct model runs.
Image analysis data for the study of the reactivity of the phases in Nd-Fe-B magnets etched with HCl-saturated Cyphos IL 101
<p>Scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-rays Spectroscopy (EDS) and image analysis have been used as techniques to analyse the results of etching experiments carried on NdFeB permanent magnets by using the ionic liquid Cyphos IL 101 saturated with HCl. Image analysis is for the first time reported in the literature as a technique for corrosion studies.</p> <p>Operational conditions of the analysis equipment were the following:</p> <p>- The samples were analyzed via electron microscopy and image analysis. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) pictures and energy dispersed spectra (EDS) were collected with a JEOL JSM 5800 microscope, operating at 20 kV. The polished samples were made conductive by spraying a carbon layer on them using a Balzer SCD 050 sputter coater.</p> <p>- The EDS analysis were collected as average on 5 points per each SEM picture</p> <p>- A commercial software, ImageJ®, was used for the image analysis. Two data were analysed: the Feret diameter, dF, and the percentage of etched area, %area. The SEM images were converted to 8-bit grayscale, from 0 to 255 number of grey ranges. Simple linear scaling was applied</p>

Dataset related to article "Neutrophils mediate protection in colitis and carcinogenesis by controlling bacterial invasion and IL-22 production by gdT cells"
<p>This record contains raw data related to article "<strong>Neutrophils mediate protection in colitis and carcinogenesis by controlling bacterial invasion and IL-22 production by gd T cells"</strong></p><p>Abstract</p><p>Neutrophils are the most abundant leukocytes in human blood and play a primary role in resistance against invading microorganisms and in the acute inflammatory response. However, their role in colitis and colitis-associated colorectal cancer is still under debate. Therefore, this study aims to dissect the role of neutrophils in these pathological contexts by using a rigorous genetic approach. Neutrophil-deficient mice (Csf3r-/- mice) were challenged with classic models of colitis and colitis-associated colorectal cancer and the role of neutrophils was assessed by histological, cellular and molecular analyses coupled with adoptive cell transfer and correlative analyses using human datasets. Csf3r-/- mice showed increased susceptibility to colitis and colitis-associated colorectal cancer compared to control Csf3r+/+ mice and adoptive transfer of neutrophils in Csf3r-/- mice reverted the phenotype. In colitis, Csf3r-/- mice showed increased bacterial invasion and reduced number of healing ulcers in the colon, indicating compromised regenerative capacity of epithelial cells. Neutrophils were essential for T cell polarization and IL-22 production. In patients with ulcerative colitis, the expression of CSF3R was positively correlated with IL-22 and IL-23 expression. Moreover, gene signatures associated with epithelial cell development, proliferation and antimicrobial response were enriched in CSF3Rhigh patients. Our data support a model where neutrophils mediate protection against intestinal inflammation and colitis-associated colorectal cancer by controlling the intestinal microbiota and driving the activation of an IL-22-dependent tissue repair pathway.</p><p> </p>
