Data from: Widespread plant species temporal variation along environmental and microclimate gradients in Norwegian mountains
<p>The effect of climate change on mountain vegetation is influenced by environmental factors and site effects. To monitor the effect of climate change we therefore need to understand species sensitivity to microclimate and environmental gradients. The objective of this study is to study widespread plant species temporal and spatial variation along environmental and microclimate gradients in Norwegian mountains along a coast-inland gradient. Occurrence and abundance of plant species were surveyed in 110 study plots in four mountains at two points in time, seven years apart. Of the 222 plant species registered, <em>Salix herbacea, Phyllodoce caerulea, Carex bigelowii, Juncus trifidus, Vaccinium myrtillus, Avenella flexuosa</em>, and <em>Empetrum nigrum</em> were widespread across all mountains. These species responded differently to environmental and microclimate gradients, and abundance data was more sensitive than occurrence data. During the short time span we observed some indications of response which might support the assumption that boreal species outcompete alpine species in the forest transition zone, but our data does not indicate this effect at higher altitudes. Monitoring of climate change in mountains need to include plots along environmental and microclimate gradients as well as abundance of a set of wide-spread plant species that represent both regional and local environmental and climate gradients. However, when monitoring perennial plant species, the necessity of long-time monitoring projects is high because such species develop slowly over several decades.</p>

<p>The Norwegian GBIF node approved a data mobilization grant for the UiO Natural History Museum in 2015 for co-funding the preparation and publication of primary biodiversity data on Radiolaria specimens from the Norwegian Sea (Norskehavet). Additional data from Polhavet, Grønnlandshavet, Islandshavet, Norskehavet, Korsfjorden, Sognefjorden and Hardangerfjorden are also available and will be considered for continued data mobilization projects in 2016. This first data mobilization project from Norskehavet has been estimated to include a total of 18 000 presence-absence data with approximately 8000 presence-occurrences.</p>

<p>The DBnary dataset is an extract of Wiktionary data from many language editions in RDF Format. Until July 1st 2017, the lexical data extracted from Wiktionary was modeled using the lemon vocabulary.</p> <p>This dataset contains the full archive of all DBnary dumps in Lemon format containing lexical information from Norwegian language edition, ranging from 6th February 2015 to 1st July 2017.</p> <p>After July 2017, DBnary data has been modeled using the ontolex model and will be available in another Zenodo entry.</p>

Genetic Characterization of the Norwegian Apple Collection
<p>Commercial fruit production in Norway is located at around latitude 60° north, demanding careful choice of adapted cultivars. The most comprehensive collection of apple genetic resources in Norway is being kept in the Norwegian Apple Collection (NAC) at Njøs Fruit and Berry Centre (NJØS). The collection contains around 350 accessions and was recently genotyped with a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array. Curated SNP data were used for structure assessment, diversity analysis, pedigree confirmation, and core collection development. In the subsequent SNP analysis, we identified several duplicates and parent–offspring relationships. The collection was equally diverse across the geographic regions represented. Different methods for analyzing population structure were applied. K-means clustering and a Bayesian modeling approach with prior assumptions of the data revealed five subpopulations associated with geographic breeding centers. The collection has a distinct genetic structure and low relatedness among the accessions; hence, two 100 accession core collections were created. These new core collections will allow breeders and researchers to use the NAC efficiently. The results from this study suggest that several of the accessions in the Norwegian Apple Collection could be of high importance for breeding programs.</p>
Data from: Gut microbiome dysbiosis is associated with host genetics in the Norwegian Lundehund
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>A group of diseases have been shown to correlate with a phenomenon called microbiome dysbiosis, where the bacterial species composition of the gut becomes abnormal. The gut microbiome of an animal is influenced by many factors including diet, exposures to bacteria during post-gestational growth, lifestyle, and disease status. Studies also show that host genetics can affect microbiome composition. We sought to test whether host genetic background is associated with gut microbiome composition in the Norwegian Lundehund dog, a highly inbred breed with an effective population size of 13 individuals. The Lundehund has a high rate of a protein-losing enteropathy in the small intestine that is often reported as Lundehund syndrome, which negatively affects longevity and life-quality. An outcrossing project with the Buhund, Norrbottenspets and Icelandic sheepdog was recently established to reintroduce genetic diversity to the Lundehund and improve its health. To assess whether there was an association between host genetic diversity and the microbiome composition, we sampled the fecal microbiomes of 75 dogs of the parental (Lundehund), F1 (Lundehund x Buhund), and F2 (F1 x Lundehund) generations. We found significant variation in microbiome composition from the parental Lundehund generation compared to the outcross progeny. The variation observed in purebred Lundehunds corresponded to dysbiosis as seen by a highly variable microbiome composition with an elevated Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio and an increase in the prevalence of <em>Streptococcus bovis/Streptococcus equinus </em>complex, a known pathobiont that can cause several diseases. We tracked several other environmental factors including diet, the presence of a cat in the household, living on a farm and the use of probiotics, but we did not find evidence of an effect of these on microbiome composition and alpha diversity. In conclusion, we found an association between host genetics and gut microbiome composition, which in turn may be associated with the high incidence of Lundehund syndrome in the purebred parental dogs.</span></p>
Database for "Estimation of the Energy Recovery and Emission Potential of Typically Incinerated Norwegian Waste Classes"
<p>A great challenge for waste-to-energy power plants is their uncertain and variable feedstock, which<br> can lead to the power plants not being run as efficiently as possible, leading to reduced energy<br> output and control of emissions. A way to describe the feedstock is to use surrogates. This is a<br> method where the hundreds or thousands of different species of a feedstock are modelled using a few<br> surrogate species, enabling the feedstock’s modelling. The surrogates also provide an estimation<br> of the HHV and the fraction of biomass, oil-based waste and inorganics.<br> This thesis formulated surrogates for waste classes typically incinerated, using a linear least-square<br> solution between available surrogate species and experimental values. Most of the species used<br> were from two existing models in the literature, but three new species were created to improve the<br> representation of some waste classes containing fossil-originated wastes, rubber and PET. These<br> were made by creating reactions based on experimental data from the literature and then testing<br> these reactions under pyrolysis conditions in a stochastic reactor model.<br> The surrogates for the waste classes were formulated by first dividing the waste into components<br> and then finding the surrogate formulation for each component. There were found surrogates<br> for 41 components, which were used to create the surrogate formulation for 30 waste classes. It<br> was found that most of the surrogates modelled the elemental composition accurately compared<br> to experimental values. A statistical overview of the experimental and model data for the waste<br> classes was also created. This overview is relevant for stakeholders in waste management and for<br> other research, such as life-cycle analysis.</p>
Norwegian hourly residential electricity demand data with consumer characteristics during the European energy crisis
<p>This dataset was collected to understand how Norwegian households responded to the electricity price shock due to the European energy crisis. It consists of consumer characteristics and their self-reported responses to the extraordinarily high electricity prices which were collected by a survey of 4,446 consumers. The consumer characteristics contain information about socio-demographics such as income, age, education, number of residents, residence type, residence size, and how conscious the respondents are about their electricity consumption. Furthermore, major electricity-consuming appliances are identified, such as whether the residents have an electric vehicle and how they heat their homes, and if they have a variable electricity tariff. In addition, hourly metered electricity consumption data covering October 2020 to March 2022 from a subset of 1,136 residential consumers of the surveyed households and the total hourly residential electricity consumption per Norwegian bidding area from July 2019 to July 2022as well as the hourly day-ahead electricity prices are included in the dataset.
