The Maastricthian Cap de Naze Formation consisting of calcareous sandstone with hard ground underlies the Ndayane Formation unconformably. As seen in the center of the photograph, the beach of Poponguine obscures part of unit 1 of the Ndayane Formation. Unit 1 consists of calcareous sandstone with beds of marls and unit 2 of marls with calcite rosettes.
