Literary locations in Piedmont Landscape and Literary Park SPOTIT tool

<p>To contribute to creating a technological infrastructure for further development of this sector of literary tourism in the SPOTIT tool frame, the UNIVR team created a layer of literary locations of the case study. Through GIS technology, it is possible to look for traces of the past, connecting the social memory and finding those elements that contribute to the literary cultural imagery of the area. The literary locations layer, together with other layers dedicated to local tourist attractions, is an added value for other future technological tools.</p>

Belvedere in UNESCO site - Piedmont Landscape and Literary Park for SPOTIT tool

<p>The UNESCO World Heritage Site &#39;Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato&#39; is active in raising awareness among local institutions and residents about the quality of the landscape and the values that the recognition is promoting in the area. In 2021, the Associazione per il Patrimonio dei Paesaggi Vitivinicoli di Langhe-Roero e Monferrato promoted the creation of six viewpoints for a reading of the landscape according to UNESCO&#39;s interpretative keys, aimed at the widest possible range of users and in particular at the flow of tourists in order to get to know and appreciate a landscape recognised as a world heritage site. The viewpoints were financed by the Piedmont Region to six municipalities.</p> <p>In the framework of the SPOT H2020 project and Piedmont Landscape and Literary Parks, the cartography operable through GIS software is provided.</p>

Data from: The earliest baleen whale of the mediterranean: Large-scale implications of an early miocene thalassotherian mysticete from Piedmont, Italy

The discovery of an Early Miocene chaeomysticete from the Pietra da Cantoni Group in Piedmont (north-western Italy) allowed for the creation of Atlanticetus n. gen. and Atlanticetus lavei n. sp. The new species is represented by a partial skeleton including the earbones and shows anatomical resemblance with Atlanticetus patulus (new combination) from the western North Atlantic. The Early Miocene age of the new specimen supports the view that it represents the oldest record of Chaeomysticeti from the Mediterranean. A new phylogenetic analysis showed that both A. patulus and A. lavei belong to a radiation of basal thalassotherian taxa. The basal thalassotherians are found being monophyletic to the exclusion of Cetotheriidae and Balaenopteroidea. The reconstruction of ancestral characters at selected nodes informs that the group including Atlanticetus and living balaenopterid taxa independently evolved rostra wide at base, anterolateral expansion in the tympanic bulla and a peculiar arrangement of the endocranial foramina of the periotic exhibiting a noteworthy phenomenon of convergent evolution in feeding and hearing functions with Balaenopteridae. The paleobiogeographic analysis showed that the North Pacific was the center of origin of Balaenomorpha (crown mysticetes), Thalassotherii and Balaenoidea. The recurrent invasion of the Mediterranean by balaenomorph mysticetes occurred from both the North Atlantic and North Pacific.

<p>This petrographic database is a compilation made to study the Oligocene-Langhian succession of the Arquata Scrivia area, consisting of different shallow to deep-water marine sedimentary units deposited in the eastern Tertiary Piedmont Basin (NW Italy). This database is unique for the studied succession, which was not priorly investigated for the petrographic content of its component units. Petrographic data supporting the samples are presented at first with their qualitative and quantitative analyses.</p>
