IODP Expedition 356, Hole U1464C - Well Logging Data

Logging data are measurements of physical properties of the formation surrounding a borehole, acquired in situ after completion of coring (wireline logging) or during drilling (Logging-While-Drilling, LWD). The range of data (resistivity, gamma radiation, velocity, density, borehole images,…) in any hole depends on the scientific objectives and operational constraints.

Supporting codes, data, and outputs to identify a type of lithofacies from rock-core digital photographs and to classify the lithofacies from well-log data

This repository contains the codes and the data used in the study “Interpreting the Subsurface Lithofacies at High Lithological Resolution by Integrating Information from Well-log Data and Rock-core Digital Photographs”. The codes are used to identify the lithofacies type from rock-core digital photographs (clustering) and to predict the lithofacies from geophysical well-log data (classification). The lithofacies identification process, including feature extraction and clustering, was encoded by MATLAB, and the classification model was encoded by TensorFlow to construct a neural network-based classification model.

Taranaki Basin Curated Well Logs

Machine learning (ML) models are being widely used in the geosciences for various tasks involving well log data, including prediction of missing well log curves, picking of stratigraphic surfaces, facies classification, and segmentation of different rock types. Even though various ML applications have been proposed in the literature, it is difficult to reproduce and advance the prior art without having access to the data and preprocessing steps used. In fact, there is an increasing need for benchmark cases to assess past and future solutions. The present dataset integrates well log data curated from the 2016 New Zealand Petroleum Exploration Public Data Pack.

MR3D - Synthetic Resistivity Well Logs Dataset

Marlim R3D (MR3D) is an open-source realistic geoelectric model for CSEM simulations of the post-salt turbiditic reservoirs at the Brazilian offshore margin.

Here, we make available a set of 27 synthetic resistivity well logs that complement the MR3D model (available at https://zenodo.org/badge/DOI/10.5281/zenodo.400233.svg). These logs include fine-scale variations summed to the low-frequency resistivity property extracted from the MR3D model, making them suitable for educational and research purposes. Under the Creative Commons License, these elements are freely available for research or commercial use.

The logs are provided in LAS format
