Comprehensive phylogenomic analyses re-write the evolution of parasitism within cynipoid wasps

Background Parasitoidism, a specialized life strategy in which a parasite eventually kills its host, is frequently found within the insect order Hymenoptera (wasps, ants and bees). A parasitoid lifestyle is one of two dominant life strategies within the hymenopteran superfamily Cynipoidea, with the other being an unusual plant-feeding behavior known as galling. Less commonly cynipoid wasps exhibit inquilinism, a strategy where some species have adapted to usurp other species' galls instead of inducing their own. Using a phylogenomic data set of ultraconserved elements from nearly all lineages of Cynipoidea, we here generate a robust phylogenetic framework and timescale to understand cynipoid systematics and the evolution of these life histories. Results Our reconstructed evolutionary history for Cynipoidea differs considerably from previous hypotheses. Rooting our analyses with non-cynipoid outgroups, the Paralaucini, a group of inquilines, emerged as sister-group to the rest of Cynipoidea, rendering the gall wasp family Cynipidae paraphyletic. The families Ibaliidae and Liopteridae, long considered archaic and early-branching parasitoid lineages, were found nested well within the Cynipoidea as sister-group to the parasitoid Figitidae. Cynipoidea originated in the early Jurassic around 190 Ma. Either inquilinism or parasitoidism is suggested as the ancestral and dominant strategy throughout the early evolution of cynipoids, depending on whether a simple (three states: parasitoidism, inquilinism and galling) or more complex (seven states: parasitoidism, inquilinism and galling split by host use) model is employed. Conclusions Our study has significant impact on understanding cynipoid evolution and highlights the importance of adequate outgroup sampling. We discuss the evolutionary timescale of the superfamily in relation to their insect hosts and host plants, and outline how phytophagous galling behavior may have evolved from entomophagous, parasitoid cynipoids. We hypothesize these seemingly diverging life strategies may be considered as specializations of a similar underlying molecular toolkit between which switches are possible. Our study has established the framework for further physiological and comparative genomic work between gall-making, inquiline and parasitoid lineages, which could also have significant implications for the evolution of diverse life histories in other Hymenoptera.

Additional Arabic Dataset for Jawi Writing

<p>This dataset consists of augmented Arabic characters, specifically curated and augmented for recognition in Jawi script, a variant of the Arabic script used historically in the Nusantara region. The augmentation process involved the creation of additional Arabic characters representing Jawi script, focusing on various forms and configurations to encompass the connected and disconnected shapes present in the Jawi script. These characters were augmented using digital image processing techniques and incorporated to enhance the available dataset for improved Jawi script recognition using deep learning methodologies. The dataset is an essential resource for advancing research in Jawi script recognition and furthering the understanding of this historical and culturally significant script.&nbsp;</p><p>Content: Additional Arabic characters augmented for Jawi script recognition. The Problem of Translating Style in African Prose Writing

<p>This research investigated style as an elusive and difficult element to render in an African prose text. Using illustrations from Charles Tsimi&rsquo;s Clandestinement votre, it identified elements of style in 15 randomly selected excerpts, highlighted possible constraints to the translation of style into English and proposed strategies that a translator could use in the event of its translation. The study applied Toury&rsquo;s (1995) Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS) for qualitative data collection as it identified, described and explained pathways for the translatability of style in the corpus. The quantitative data collected for the study were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistical tools used were frequencies and percentages. The quantitative data were analysed using SPSS 25.0, and the findings were presented using figures and tables. The research was underpinned by both translation and literary theories. Concerning translation theory, it made use of the Sociolinguistic and Skopos Theories. The literary theories that supported the work were formalism, post-colonial criticism, sociological criticism and new historicism. &nbsp; The findings revealed that difficult-to-translate elements of style were found in the author&rsquo;s diction (73.3%), voice (20.0%) and tone (6.7%). Regarding constraints, it was revealed that translators can face text-driven, translator-related, norm-imposed and extra-linguistic constraints in rendering African prose texts into English. Concerning macro translation strategies, the study proposed foreignisation (20%) and domestication (80%) for rendering style, while the micro strategies it identified were modulation (33.3%), literal translation (26.7), adaptation and equivalence, both of equal weights (13.3%) and deletion and transference also of equal proportions (6.7%). The study concluded that a successful translation of style would depend largely on the potential translator&rsquo;s mastery of the source text culture, which will condition how they convey both its message (content) and the style (form).</p>

The Role and Risks of Essay Writing Services in Academic Pursuits

<p>In contemporary academia, the proliferation of online essay writing services such as Essayservice.com has sparked debates regarding their ethical implications and academic integrity. While these platforms offer assistance to students overwhelmed with academic tasks, their usage raises concerns about plagiarism and the erosion of genuine learning.</p> <p>Essay writing services like <a title="https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/honest-essayservicecom-review-what-i-supposed-find-sana-a-kroh-ikyyc" href="https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/honest-essayservicecom-review-what-i-supposed-find-sana-a-kroh-ikyyc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Essayservice.com</a> provide customized essays, research papers, and other academic assignments for a fee. They promise original content, timely delivery, and confidentiality. However, students must be cautious about the potential risks associated with their utilization.</p> <p>One significant concern is the ethical dilemma of submitting work that is not one's own. Using these services could lead to academic dishonesty and undermine the purpose of education, which is to foster critical thinking and intellectual growth. Moreover, there's a risk of getting caught for plagiarism, which can result in severe consequences, including expulsion from educational institutions.</p> <p>Furthermore, reliance on essay writing services deprives students of the opportunity to develop essential skills such as research, writing, and critical analysis. Academic success should not be measured solely by grades but also by the knowledge and skills gained through the learning process.</p> <p>Despite the allure of convenience, students should prioritize academic integrity and personal growth over shortcuts offered by essay writing services. Instead of outsourcing their assignments, they should seek support from professors, academic advisors, and writing centers to enhance their skills and overcome academic challenges legitimately.</p> <p>In conclusion, while essay writing services like Essayservice.com offer a quick fix to academic pressures, their usage comes with ethical and academic risks. Students must weigh these considerations carefully and make informed decisions that prioritize their long-term academic and personal development.</p>
