Residual force enhancement is reduced in permeabilized fiber bundles from mdm muscles
<p>Residual force enhancement (RFE) is the increase in steady-state force after active stretch relative to the force after isometric contraction at the same final length. The mdm mutation in mice, characterized by a small deletion in N2A titin, has been proposed to prevent N2A titin-actin interactions so that active mdm muscles are more compliant than WT. This decrease in active muscle stiffness should be associated with reduced RFE. We investigated RFE in permeabilized soleus (SOL) and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) fiber bundles from wild type and mdm mice. On each fiber bundle, we performed active and passive stretch from an average sarcomere length of 2.6 - 3.0 &[mu]m at a slow rate of 0.04 &[mu]m/s, as well as isometric contractions at the initial and final lengths. One-way ANOVA showed that SOL and EDL fiber bundles from mdm mice exhibited significantly lower RFE than WT (P < 0.0001). This result is consistent with previous observations in single myofibrils and intact muscles. However, it contradicts the results from a previous study which appeared to show that compensatory mechanisms could restore titin force enhancement in single fibers from mdm psoas. We suggest that force enhancement measured previously in mdm single fibers was an artifact of the high variability in passive tension found in degenerating fibers, which begins after ~24 days of age. The results are consistent with the hypothesis that RFE is reduced in mdm skeletal muscles due to impaired Ca2+ dependent titin-actin interactions resulting from the small deletion in N2A titin.</p>

Videos: Computing on actin bundles network
<p>These are videos of experiments described in the paper </p> <p>Andrew Adamatzky, Florian Huber, Florian HuberJörg Schnauß. Computing on actin bundles network (March, 2019).</p> <p>Abstract </p> <p>Actin filaments are conductive to ionic currents, mechanical and voltage solitons. These travelling localisations can be utilised in making the actin network executing specific computing circuits. The propagation of localisations on a single actin filament is experimentally unfeasible, therefore we propose a `relaxed' version of the computing on actin networks by considering excitation waves propagating on actin bundles. We show that by using an arbitrary arrangement of electrodes it is possible to implement two-inputs-one-output circuits. Frequencies of the Boolean gates' detection in actin network match an overall distribution of gates discovered in living substrates.</p>

Tutorial Data Bundle for PyPSA-Eur: An Open Optimisation Model of the European Transmission System
<p><strong>PyPSA-Eur</strong> is an open model dataset of the European power system at the transmission network level that covers the full ENTSO-E area. It can be built using the code provided at <a href="https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur">https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur</a>.</p> <p><strong>It contains</strong> alternating current lines at and above 220 kV voltage level and all high voltage direct current lines, substations, an open database of conventional power plants, time series for electrical demand and variable renewable generator availability, and geographic potentials for the expansion of wind and solar power.</p> <p><strong>Not all data dependencies</strong> are shipped with the <a href="https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur">code repository</a>, since git is not suited for handling large changing files. Instead we provide separate <strong>data bundles</strong> to be downloaded and extracted as noted in the <a href="https://pypsa-eur.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html">documentation</a>.</p> <p>This is the <strong>lightweight</strong> data bundle to be used for the <a href="https://pypsa-eur.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tutorial.html">PyPSA-Eur tutorial</a>. Data bundle for powerd-data: A transparent and reproducible data processing pipeline for energy system modeling based on egon-data
<div> <p><strong>powerd-data</strong> provides a transparent and reproducible open data based data processing pipeline for generating data models suitable for energy system modeling. Is is a fork from the open-source tool <strong>egon-data</strong>. </p> <p>powerd-data and egon-data retrieve and process data from several different external input sources. Effect of stochastic deformation on the vibration characteristics of a tube bundle in axial flow: code and data

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 411, 112412. <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nucengdes.2023.112412">doi:10.1016/j.nucengdes.2023.112412</a>.</p> <p>In this publication the effect of a stochastic bow deformation on the vibration characteristics of a tube bundle was investigated. The Monte Carlo and generalized Polynomial Chaos (gPC) method were used. For the latter method, the <a href="https://chaospy.readthedocs.io/en/master/">chaospy Python-package</a> was used. Further dependencies include the numpy, scipy and matplotlib Python packages. The gPC was benchmarked with the Monte Carlo method on a steady CFD case. The the gPC was used on an FSI case used to extract the output quantity of interest, the vibration characteristics. This FSI case was run in the open-source code <a href="https://github.com/pyfsi/coconut">CoCoNuT</a>. This code developed at Ghent University is Python-based and has the capability to couple existing solvers, both open-source and commercial solvers.</p> <p>The archive includes scripts to set-up the steady CFD case as well as the FSI case, the used version of CoCoNuT and some post-processing scripts. ReadMe files are provided to explain the files, and what adjustments are likely needed to make it work on a different system. For CoCoNuT to work, the 'coconut' folder should be added to the PYTHONPATH environment variable.
