Ecological data for: Subsidy accessibility drives asymmetric food web responses

<p>Global change is fundamentally altering flows of natural and anthropogenic subsidies across space and time. After a pointed call for research on subsidies in the 1990s, an industry of empirical work has documented the ubiquitous role subsidies play in ecosystem structure, stability and function. Here, we argue that physical constraints (e.g., water temperature) and species traits can govern a species' accessibility to resource subsidies, which has been largely overlooked in the subsidy literature. We examined the input of a high quality, point-source anthropogenic subsidy (aquaculture feed) into a recipient freshwater lake food web. By using a combined bio-tracer approach, we detect a gradient in accessibility of the anthropogenic subsidy within the surrounding food web driven by the thermal preferences of three constituent species, effectively rewiring the recipient lake food web. Since aquaculture is predicted to increase significantly in coming decades to support growing human populations, and global change is altering temperature regimes, then this form of food web alteration may be expected to occur frequently. We argue that subsidy accessibility is a key characteristic of recipient food web interactions that must be considered when trying to understand the impacts of subsidies on ecosystem stability and function under continued global change.</p>

Data from: The State of OA: A large-scale analysis of the prevalence and impact of Open Access articles

<p>This is the raw data behind the publication: </p> <p><strong>The State of OA: A large-scale analysis of the prevalence and impact of Open Access articles.</strong></p> <p>Despite growing interest in Open Access (OA) to scholarly literature, there is an unmet need for large-scale, up-to-date, and reproducible studies assessing the prevalence and characteristics of OA. We address this need using oaDOI, an open online service that determines OA status for 67 million articles. We use three samples, each of 100,000 articles, to investigate OA in three populations: 1) all journal articles assigned a Crossref DOI, 2) recent journal articles indexed in Web of Science, and 3) articles viewed by users of Unpaywall, an open-source browser extension that lets users find OA articles using oaDOI. We estimate that at least 28% of the scholarly literature is OA (19M in total) and that this proportion is growing, driven particularly by growth in Gold and Hybrid. The most recent year analyzed (2015) also has the highest percentage of OA (45%). Because of this growth, and the fact that readers disproportionately access newer articles, we find that Unpaywall users encounter OA quite frequently: 47% of articles they view are OA. Notably, the most common mechanism for OA is not Gold, Green, or Hybrid OA, but rather an under-discussed category we dub Bronze: articles made free-to-read on the publisher website, without an explicit Open license.  We also examine the citation impact of OA articles, corroborating the so-called open-access citation advantage: accounting for age and discipline, OA articles receive 18% more citations than average, an effect driven primarily by Green and Hybrid OA. We encourage further research using the free oaDOI service, as a way to inform OA policy and practice.</p>

<p>This is the raw data behind the publication (on PeerJ Preprints):</p> <p><strong>Open access levels: a quantitative exploration using Web of Science and oaDOI data</strong></p> <p>Across the world there is growing interest in open access publishing among researchers, institutions, funders and publishers alike. It is assumed that open access levels are growing, but hitherto the exact levels and patterns of open access have been hard to determine and detailed quantitative studies are scarce. Using newly available open access status data from oaDOI in Web of Science we are now able to explore year-on-year open access levels across research fields, languages, countries, institutions, funders and topics, and try to relate the resulting patterns to disciplinary, national and institutional contexts. With data from the oaDOI API we also look at the detailed breakdown of open access by types of gold open access (pure gold, hybrid and bronze), using universities in the Netherlands as an example. There is huge diversity in open access levels on all dimensions, with unexpected levels for e.g. Portuguese as language, Astronomy &amp; Astrophysics as research field, countries like Tanzania, Peru and Latvia, and Zika as topic. We explore methodological issues and offer suggestions to improve conditions for tracking open access status of research output. Finally, we suggest potential future applications for research and policy development. We have shared all data and code openly.</p>

Survey on data access conditions for sensitive data - Raw Data and Documentation

<p>This Upload concerns the survey entitled &ldquo;Survey on data access conditions for sensitive data&rdquo; which was performed by The Dutch Open Data Infrastructure for Social Science and Economic Innovations (ODISSEI) and DANS, the Dutch national centre of expertise and repository for research data. The survey was launched in April 2024 and open until July 1st 2024.&nbsp;</p> <p>The goal of the survey was to gather additional information about access conditions and restrictions used by researchers using the DANS and ODISSEI services. The results of the survey can guide us to identify common conditions that should be included in a standardisation effort. Moreover, the results will improve the available guidance that DANS and ODISSEI can provide for their local research community. A comprehensive analysis of the survey and resulting recommendations will be published separately at a later point in time.&nbsp;</p> <p>This upload contains:</p> <ul> <li>a PDF with documentation of the survey, specifically the description and question text.</li> <li>an ODS spreadsheet with the raw data from the survey which was filled in by 46 participants. After functional and 3D content prototyping, certain components of the virtual campus can be easily modified and adapted as needed.</p>

Open access data for 2-year percutaneous osseointegrated implants - A sheep model

<p>Percutaneous osseointegrated <strong>(OI)</strong> devices for amputees are metallic endoprostheses, surgically implanted into the residual bone that protrude through the skin, allowing attachment of an exoprosthetic. In contrast to standard socket-type systems, these percutaneous OI devices can provide an improved prosthetics attachment platform. However, bone adaptations, which include atrophy and/or hypertrophy along the extent of the host bone-endoprosthetic interface, are known clinical outcomes and are dependent upon the load transfer region of the device to the host bone. The goal of this study was to determine if a percutaneous OI device, designed with a porous coated distal region and a collar, could promote and maintain stable bone attachment. A total of eight, 18 to 24-month old, mixed-breed sheep were surgically implanted with a percutaneous OI device. For 24-months, animals were allowed to bear weight as tolerated and monitored for signs of bone remodelling. At necropsy, the endoprosthesis and the surrounding tissues were harvested, radiographically imaged, and histomorphometrically analyzed to determine the periprosthetic bone adaptation in five animals. Bone growth into the porous coating was achieved in all five animals. Serial radiographic data showed stress-shielding related bone adaptation based on the placement of the endoprosthetic stem. When collar placement achieved end-bearing against the transected bone, distal bone conservation/hypertrophy was observed. The results supported the use of distally porous coated percutaneous OI devices for distal load-transfer and host bone maintenance.</p>

Galvanising the Open Access Community: A Study on the Impact of Plan S - Data and Code

<div> <div> <div> <div> <p>This repository contains the datasets and code underpinning <em>Chapter 3 "Counterfactual Impact Evaluation of Plan S"</em> of the report <em>"Galvanising the Open Access Community: A Study on the Impact of Plan S"</em> commissioned by the cOAlition S to scidecode science consulting.</p> <p>Two categories of files are part of this repository:</p> <p><strong>1. Datasets&nbsp;<br></strong></p> <p>The 21 CSV source files contain the subsets of publications funded by the funding agencies that are part of this study. These files have been provided by <em>OA.Works</em>, with whom scidecode has collaborated for the data collection process. Data sources and collection and processing workflows applied by <em>OA.Works</em> are described on their website and specifically at&nbsp;<a href="https://about.oa.report/docs/data">https://about.oa.report/docs/data</a>.</p> <p>The file "plan_s.dta" is the aggregated data file stored in the format ".dta", which can be accessed with <em>STATA </em>by default or with plenty of programming languages using the respective packages, e.g., <em>R</em> or <em>Python</em>.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>2. Data Access Made Easy: flexible, on the fly data standardization and processing (for research automatic weather stations)

<pre>Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) deployed in the context of research projects provide very valuable data thanks to the flexibility they offer in term of measured meteorological parameters, choice of sensors and quick deployment and redeployment. However this flexibility is a challenge in terms of metadata and data management. Traditional approaches based on networks of standard stations can not accommodate these needs and often no tools are available to manage these research AWS, leading to wasted data periods because of difficult data reuse, low reactivity in identifying potential measurement problems, and lack of metadata to document what happened. The Data Access Made Easy (DAME) effort is our answer to these challenges. At its core, it relies on the mature and flexible open source MeteoIO meteorological pre-processing library. It was originally developed as a flexible data processing engine for the needs of numerical models consuming meteorological data and further developed as a data standardization engine for the Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). For each AWS, a single configuration file describes how to read and parse the data, defines a mapping between the available fields and a set of standardized names and provides relevant Attribute Conventions Dataset Discovery (ACDD) metadata fields, if necessary on a per input file basis. Low level data editing is also available, such as excluding a given sensor, swapping sensors or merging data from another AWS, for any given time period. Moreover an arbitrary number of filters can be applied on each meteorological parameter, restricted to specific time periods if required. This allows to describe the whole history of an AWS within a single configuration file and to deliver a single, consistent, standardized output file possibly spanning many years, many input data files and many changes both in format and available sensors. Finally, all configuration files are versionned in order to document their history. A web interface has been developed that allows data owners to manage the configuration files for their stations, refresh their data at regular intervals, inspect the data QA log files and allow on-demand data generation.
