Four YSI EXO2 water quality sondes were deployed from May 2023 to October 2023 at four sites in the Plum Island Estuary. One was at the mouth of the sound at the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club, one in the Rowley River, and two in the Parker River. The sondes measured water column temperature, salinity, oxygen, pH, algae, organic matter, turbidity, and depth in 15-minute intervals.

Long-term monitoring of the fish community in the Minho Estuary (NW Iberian Peninsula)
<p>The dataset contains data from fyke nets deployed in the Minho Estuary (Portugal) from 2010 to 2019. The fyke nets were used for fish sampling and data collection. The sampling frequency varied but, on average, data was collected weekly using five different fyke nets. However, due to technical issues (e.g. lost or damaged fyke nets), the sampling pattern is not constant, with some fyke nets staying underwater for shorter or longer periods, and occasionally having fewer than five fyke nets per parentEventID. <p>This dataset contains benthic and pelagic data on biomass, chlorophyll fluorescence and silicon cycling in the Severn Estuary, UK, from 2016. The sampled periods coincided with the seasons, and for clarity, are referred to here as; winter (January-March), spring (April-June), summer (July-September) and autumn (October-December). Atmospheric, hydrodynamic and water quality observations from environmental-quality stations, water level sensors, acoustic Doppler velocimeters, and meteorological stations located at the Guadalquivir river estuary (2008 - 2010)
<p>The dataset included in this repository was obtained during the project entitled “Propuesta metodológica para diagnósticar las consecuencias de las actuaciones humanas en el estuario del Guadalquivir” funded by the Autoridad Portuaria de Sevilla (APS), by the Consejería de Innovación, Ciencia y Empresa (Junta de Andalucía), CTM2011-22580, MedEX (CTM2008-04036-E) and PR11-RNM-7722. The data were collected in real time from 2008 until 2010 with a remote monitoring system installed by the Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalusia (ICMAN-CSIC) (Navarro et al., 2011).</p> <p> </p> <p>The environmental quality station recorded turbidity, temperature, conductivity, normalized turbidity, dissolved oxygen, oxygen, oxygen saturation, percentage of oxygen saturation, fluorescence, normalized fluorescence, and salinity every thirty minutes. Current data were measured every 15 minutes by means of acoustic current profilers. The former datasets were obtained at several depths and different locations along the Guadalquivir estuary. Water level sensors recorded the position of the free water surface every 10 minutes at several locations along the Guadalquivir estuary. A dataset of physicochemical water parameters from Lima and Douro estuaries (Northwest Portugal)
<p>This dataset provides physicochemical water data collected during five sampling campaigns at two temperate North Atlantic estuaries, the Lima and Douro, in northern Portugal, between 2021 and 2022. The dataset is described in the <em>Data in Brief </em>article “Physicochemical dataset from Lima and Douro estuaries (Northwest Portugal)”. It includes: a) in-situ vertical profiles of water parameters (temperature, salinity, pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen), acquired with a multiparameter probe along the water column, from the surface to the bottom, at 8 stations in the Lima estuary (during ebb and flood tides) and 11 stations in the Douro estuary (during flood tide); and b) chemical analyses of nutrients, chlorophyll <em>a</em>, total particulate matter, particulate organic matter, and metal concentrations from 5 representative stations in each estuary. Additional dissolved metal data are provided for the Lima estuary.</p>

Surface and bottom hourly water temperature from the San Francisco Estuary, 2012-2019
Projected temperature increases due to global climate change are likely to have localized impacts on the San Francisco Estuary (SFE). Increased water temperature in the SFE will lead to challenges for managing water resources. Many native species, such as salmon and smelt, rely on cooler water, and will be further stressed by increased water temperature, which may cause them to seek microrefugia. While several state and federal agencies in the SFE collect real-time water temperature data, most of the water temperature collection sites are at a fixed location or floating near the surface of the water column. This dataset includes four real-time water quality stations that provide water temperature data for both the surface and bottom positions in the water column. We obtained surface water temperature data from an integrated hourly water temperature dataset (https://doi.org/10.6073/pasta/7385985f68b02c0deb2a9e425a9f3ad8). This dataset included data downloaded from the California Data Exchange Center (CDEC; https://cdec.water.ca.gov/) and cleaned with a series of quality control (QC) checks (see integrated dataset metadata). We obtained bottom temperature data from the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) internal database Water Quality Portal (WQP). Data were integrated and standardized to hourly water temperature data in degrees Celsius, and the same series of quality control (QC) checks from the surface dataset were applied in a consistent manner to all stations. Bottom temperatures were selected from surface temperatures to provide measures of temperature difference. Datasets included in this package include source hourly surface and bottom data, both obtained from DWR’s WQP, as well as an integrated dataset of cleaned hourly surface and bottom data, with calculated surface-bottom temperature differences. Caloosahatchee River Estuary Optical Water Quality Data (May 2008 - May 2020)
This dataset is an aggregated dataset from various sources including the South Florida Water Management District and Lee County (Florida) Environmental Lab and includes parameters of optical water quality. Optical water quality samples were collected throughout the Caloosahatchee River Estuary from the head of the estuary to its outlet in San Carlos Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Parameters within the dataset include light attenuation coefficient, Secchi disk depth, chlorophyll-a concentration, turbidity, total suspended solid concentration, color, water temperature, specific conductivity, and salinity. Samples were collected from various agencies from May 2008 to May 2020. Other water quality parameters were also collected and some of the monitoring continued to present but is not presented here.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife Enhanced Large Fish Study, San Francisco Estuary, California, 2023 Gillnet Survey
The Enhanced Large Fish Study (ELFS) was established and included in the Interagency Ecological Program (IEP) work plan in 2023 to fill some of the monitoring gap of fishes in the San Francisco Estuary (SFE), California. The fish monitoring of the IEP prior to ELFS primarily consisted of trawl- and seine-based surveys, which generally capture small and/or juvenile fishes due to survey gear and methodologies. In order to more effectively sample the large/adult fish portion of SFE fish communities, the ELFS uses American Fisheries Society experimental gillnets, plus the inclusion of the optional "large fish panel," to sample the waters of the SFE. The experimental gillnets measure 24.4m in length, 1.8m in depth, and includes eight 3m length panels with stretch mesh measurements of 76.2mm, 114.3mm, 50.8mm, 88.9mm, 38.1mm, 127.0mm, 63.5mm, and 101.6mm. The optional large fish panel measures 9.1m by 1.8m in depth and includes three 3m length panels with stretch mesh measurements of 152.4, 177.8, and 203.2mm. The ELFS conducted its first year of sampling in the North Delta, California, in 2023, and will be expanded to the greater Delta and Suisun Bay and Marsh in future sampling years. The ELFS is currently funded as a special study to inform future monitoring, with funding contracted through fiscal year 2026-2027.
