Root mutualistic fungi tailor the induction of direct and indirect antiherbivore defense strategies to enhance plant resistance

GCMS raw data in netCDF format for the manuscript "Root mutualistic fungi tailor the induction of direct and indirect antiherbivore defense strategies to enhance plant resistance"

Mutualistic microbes can trigger plant defenses against herbivores. Little is known about how microbes orchestrate multiple induced defense strategies that may trade-off against each other. We investigated how two root mutualistic fungi trigger simultaneously direct and indirect antiherbivore-defenses, and the regulatory mechanisms involved

Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry of ions released from the coating into LB and DMEM medium

several coatings from the ternary alloy of Zr-Cu-Ag metallic glasses (fabricated by PVD magnetron co-sputtering) were tested by the mass spectroscopy to evaluate their ion release in LB and DMEM. LB is the common medium for bacterial culture while DMEM is common for cells. coated samples have the name SP in them, while the non-coated one is PBT. They were in orbital shaker at 37˚C, 120 rpm for 1 day, 3 days and 7 days.

Nuclear induction lineshape modeling via hybrid SDE and MD approach

The temperature dependence of the nuclear-free induction decay in the presence of a magnetic-field gradient was found to exhibit motional narrowing in gases upon heating, a behavior that is opposite to that observed in liquids. This has led to the revision of the theoretical framework to include a more detailed description of particle trajectories since decoherence mechanisms depend on histories. In the case of free diffusion and single components, the new model yields the correct temperature trends. The inclusion of boundaries in the current formalism is not straightforward. We present a hybrid SDE-MD (stochastic differential equation – molecular dynamics) approach whereby MD is used to compute an effective viscosity and the latter is fed to the SDE to predict the line shape. The theory is in agreement with the experiments. This two-scale approach, which bridges the gap between short (molecular collisions) and long (nuclear induction) timescales, paves the way for the modeling of complex environments with boundaries, mixtures of chemical species, and intermolecular potentials.

Data from: Genotypic variation in the induction and persistence of transgenerational responses to seasonal cues

Phenotypes respond to environments experienced directly by an individual, via phenotypic plasticity, or to the environment experienced by ancestors, via transgenerational environmental effects. The adaptive value of environmental effects depends not only on the strength and direction of the induced response, but also on how long the response persists within and across generations, and how stably it is expressed across environments that are encountered subsequently. Little is known about the genetic basis of those distinct components, or even whether they exhibit genetic variation. We tested for genetic differences in the inducibility, temporal persistence, and environmental stability of transgenerational environmental effects in Arabidopsis thaliana. Genetic variation existed in the inducibility of transgenerational effects on traits expressed across the life cycle. Surprisingly, the persistence of transgenerational effects into the third generation was uncorrelated with their induction in the second generation. While environmental effects for some traits in some genotypes weakened over successive generations, others were stronger or even in the opposite direction in more distant generations. Therefore, transgenerational effects in more distant generations are not merely caused by the retention or dissipation of those expressed in prior generations, but they may be genetically independent traits with the potential to evolve independently.

Data from: Vasohibin1, a new IRES trans-acting factor for induction of (lymph)angiogenic factors in early hypoxia

Hypoxia, a major inducer of angiogenesis, triggers major changes of gene expression at the transcriptional level. Furthermore, global protein synthesis is blocked while internal ribosome entry sites (IRES) allow specific mRNAs to be translated. Here we report the transcriptome and translatome signatures of (lymph)angiogenic genes in hypoxic HL-1 cardiomyocytes: most genes are not induced at the transcriptome-, but at the translatome level, including all IRES-containing mRNAs. Our data reveal activation of (lymph)angiogenic factor mRNA IRESs in early hypoxia. We identify vasohibin1 (VASH1) as an IRES trans-acting factor (ITAF) able to bind RNA and to activate FGF1 and VEGFD IRESs in hypoxia while it exhibits an inhibitory effect in normoxia. This suggests a generalized process of IRES-dependent induction of (lymph)angiogenic growth factors in early hypoxia, with a variable IRESome composition. IRES-dependent translation thus appears as a pivotal process to trigger new vessel formation in ischemic heart.
