Project Data: Industrial Innovation in Transition - coded interview data
<p>Industrial innovation has changed fundamentally over the last ten years. Companies have widely adopted new tools such as open innovation, innovation networks and ecosystems, systemic innovations, public/private partnerships, crowd sourcing, social media, and demand based innovations. These new practices have improved the innovation<br> capabilities of companies and brought new challenges to the traditional innovation policy instruments. This project<br> examined widely companies’ current use of new innovation practices around Europe and the good practice experience of their use. It also evaluated existing innovation policy portfolios at national and European levels, and analyzed the differences between innovation processes and management practices in different industrial sectors. With 694 interviews of company representatives the project covered five key industrial sectors in 11 EU Member States.</p>
The longitudinal interview data on immigrant adaptation in Finland
<p>The longitudinal interview data were collected among a privileged group of well-educated, English-speaking Iraqis who arrived in Finland as asylum-seekers in 2015–2016 in order to study different aspects of both their short and long-term adaptation in Finland. All the interviews were conducted as semi-structured, in-depth interviews in English. In all, the data consist of a total of 36 interviews, each one lasting approximately 40–120 minutes.</p> <p>The participants were interviewed at three different time points during their first 2.5 years in Finland. The baseline interviews were conducted approximately 1–4 months after their arrival in Finland when all the participants (<em>N </em>= 22; three women) were still waiting for their asylum decision in the reception centres or private accommodation in Helsinki or Turku. They were contacted through direct contact outside reception centres, at events organised by or for asylum-seekers, or through a snowball sampling technique utilizing the participants’ social networks. The baseline data describe their life in Iraq, journey to Finland, motivation for choosing Finland, life in the reception centres as well as future expectations and so far experiences regarding their economic, psychological, socio-psychological, and socio-cultural adaptation in Finland.</p> <p>The two rounds of follow-up interviews were conducted approximately 1.5 years and 2.5 years after arrival among those participants (<em>N </em>= 7; three women) who were subsequently legally permitted to remain in Finland on the basis of either refugee status or subsidiary protection. The follow-up data were collected under the Occupational Restructuring Challenges Competencies research project funded by the Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland (project number 303536). The follow-up data describe, among other things, how the participants’ employment status had developed over time in Finland, and how it related to their subjective well-being as well as to both their economic and overall adaptation in the new country.</p>
Anonymized interview transcripts from the study "Information Scientists' Motivations for Research Data Sharing and Reuse"
<p>These are eleven transcripts of the interviews conducted in the context of the study “Information Scientists’ Motivations for Research Data Sharing and Reuse”.</p> <p>Interview partners are information science researchers who work with data and shared (or not) their research data and/or reused (or not) the data from third parties. Study sample included six women and five men working either at a German university and/or a research performing organization with working experience as researchers from six to over 40 years. Nine persons have a PhD degree, two persons are the PhD candidates. One researcher belongs to the Net Generation (i.e. born approx. between 1946 and 1960), three researchers – to Generation X (i.e. born approx. 1960 and 1980), seven researchers – to Generation Y (i.e. born approx. between 1980 and 1996).</p> <p>Data collection took place between October, 13 and November, 24 2022. The interviews were conducted in German, online and video-recorded. The shortest conversation took 43 minutes and the longest – 63 minutes. With participants’ consent, all interviews were transcribed using f4x Automatic Speech Recognition. The automatically created transcripts were then manually checked and corrected if needed.</p> <p>The interview transcripts are anonymized by replacing original words or phrases with more generic words or phrases. The replaced texts are marked in blue and taken in brackets. The access to the anonymized transcripts will be granted on request with concrete agreement on use.</p> <p>The <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8230979">interview guide template</a> used for conducting the interviews is available. Qualitative interview data: The deployment of humanoid robots in libraries
<p>In the qualitative study guideline interviews were conducted with library staff who use a humanoid robot in their library in Germany. Three of five interview transcripts were allowed to publish under restricted access</p> <p><strong>Components of the Interview and content of the transcripts</strong></p> <p>In the interviews it was asked about the context of the acquisition of a humanoid robot, the deployment of the humanoid in a library, challenges and positive effects in connection with the deployment of the humanoid. Furthermore it was asked what advice the interviewees would give to a colleague who wants to buy a humanoid like the one owned by the institution. Finally, the future plans for the use of the humanoid in the own institution were of interest as well as the assessment of the deployment of humanoid robots in libraries in general.</p>
The cross-sectional interview data on immigrant economic adaptation in Finland
<p>The qualitative interview data were gathered during 2016–2017 in Finland in order to investigate the connection between the labour market position of immigrants and their well-being and livelihood as well as the significance of economic adaptation to their overall acculturation to the new society. The data were collected under the Occupational Restructuring Challenges Competencies research project funded by the Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland (project number 303536).</p> <p>A total of 41 immigrants (aged 19–64) from various educational backgrounds were interviewed. The data include interviews with five groups based on their country of origin or the reason behind their migration. The groups are immigrants from Western countries, immigrants from the area of the former Soviet Union, immigrants from Eastern Europe, and immigrants with refugee backgrounds who, at the time of the study, had lived in Finland for a longer period. The fifth group consists of well-educated Iraqis who had migrated to Finland recently as asylum seekers and were granted asylum or subsidiary protection in Finland. Although the representatives of these five groups had resided in Finland for different lengths of time, they all had gained at least some experience of labour market integration in Finland.</p> <p>The interviewees were recruited from various events targeted at immigrants, with the help of immigrant-oriented foundations and personal contacts, as well as by using the snowball sampling technique. The data were collected by conducting semi-structured individual and focus group interviews. The structure of the interviews somewhat varied according to the labour market status (employed, inadequately employed or unemployed) of the interviewees. The data describe, e.g., the participants' experiences of their psychological, socio-psychological, socio-cultural and economic adaptation in Finland, particularly how challenges in finding work and other employment related difficulties faced in Finland had affected their acculturation process. Moreover, the data describe their ways of making ends meet in Finland, their need for financial assistance and attitude towards take-up of social benefits, as well as their experiences of welfare traps.</p>
Deidentified Data Set For The Impact of Interviewer Characteristics on Residency Candidate Scores
<p>Interviewers with lower academic rank had higher odds of changing their post-discussion scores of residency candidates compared to professors. Future work is needed to further characterize the influencing factors and could help create more equitable decision processes during the residency candidate ranking process.</p>
