Electrical two-qubit gates within a pair of clock-qubit magnetic molecules
<p>Enhanced coherence in HoW10 molecular spin qubits has been demonstrated by use of clock-transitions (CTs). More recently it was shown that, while operating at the CTs, it was possible to use an electrical field to selectively address HoW10 molecules pointing in a given direction, within a crystal that contains two kinds of identical but inversion-related molecules. Herein we theoretically explore the possibility of employing the electric field to effect entangling two-qubit quantum gates within a 2-qubit Hilbert space resulting from dipolar coupling of two CT-protected HoW10 molecules in a diluted crystal. We estimate the thermal evolution of <em>T</em>1, <em>T</em>2, find that CTs are also optimal operating points from the point of view of phonons, and lay out how to combine a sequence of microwave and electric field pulses to achieve coherent control within a switchable two-qubit operating space between symmetric and asymmetric qubit states that are protected both from spin-bath and from phonon-bath decoherence. This two-qubit gate approach presents an elegant correspondence between physical stimuli and logical operations, meanwhile avoiding any spontaneous unitary evolution of the qubit states. Finally, we found a highly protected 1-qubit subspace resulting from the interaction between two clock molecules.</p>

Hartree-Fock on a superconducting qubit quantum computer
<p>The simulation of fermionic systems is among the most anticipated applications of quantum computing. Here, we performed several quantum simulations of chemistry with up to one dozen qubits, including modeling the isomerization mechanism of diazene. We also demonstrated error-mitigation strategies based on N-representability which dramatically improve the effective fidelity of our experiments. Our parameterized ansatz circuits realized the Givens rotation approach to non-interacting fermion evolution, which we variationally optimized to prepare the Hartree-Fock wavefunction. This ubiquitous algorithmic primitive is classically tractable to simulate, yet still generates highly entangled states over the computational basis, which allowed us to assess the performance of our hardware and establish a foundation for scaling up correlated quantum chemistry simulations.</p>

Magnon-mediated qubit coupling determined via dissipation measurements
<p>Accompanying data for the main text and supporting information of <i><strong>Magnon-mediated qubit coupling determined via dissipation measurements</strong></i></p><p>Paper abstract is as follows:</p><p>Controlled interaction between localized and delocalized solid-state spin systems offers a compelling platform for on-chip quantum information processing with quantum spintronics. Hybrid quantum systems (HQSs) of localized nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond and delocalized magnon modes in ferrimagnets–systems with naturally commensurate energies–have recently attracted significant attention, especially for interconnecting isolated spin qubits at length-scales far beyond those set by the dipolar coupling. However, despite extensive theoretical efforts, there is a lack of experimental characterization of the magnon-mediated interaction between NV centers, which is necessary to develop such hybrid quantum architectures. Here, we experimentally determine the magnon-mediated NV-NV coupling from the magnon-induced self-energy of NV centers. Our results are quantitatively consistent with a model in which the NV center is coupled to magnons by dipolar interactions. This work provides a versatile tool to characterize HQSs in the absence of strong coupling, informing future efforts to engineer entangled solid-state systems.</p>
